RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2019 Good morning everyone It’s chuckinitdarn here, it has been for some time too. Breakfast has now been consumed and I’ll soon be heading back downstairs to the cellar to continue working on the pullout drawer. Hopefully I’ll get some more paint on it and the last stair riser today. Back later 17
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 1, 2019 Morning all. I think we must be in-between rain storms at the moment. It is very soggy looking outside but very bright and sunny. I don’t think there are any special plans for today. Tony 15
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) New energy supplier sorted, going back to OVO. No smart meters involved. (unless I want to) £11 a month less than I'm paying at the moment and all dealt with by a lovely friendly and seemingly efficient north eastern lass who coincidentally has the same surname as me. Next up - Sainsbury's. Edited October 1, 2019 by grandadbob 19 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 1, 2019 Well the forecast was wrong, the rain reached us overnight which was further north than said. It is much cooler, and forecast to get cooler still. We'll take Ben to Kinneil later, which might be a bit soggy. The area is riven with small streams. The wall is looking good, though it will need a couple more coats of paint.. 16 3

Next up - Sainsbury's. We've been with OVO for several years. Never a problem. Can't be arsed with a smart meter. We've already got a smart boiler and app controlled heating. All lighting is LED and we use far less than a "normal" household of this size. What ever that means. Greetings all from the boring borough. I'm baaaaaack. 5 days in Belgium & Netherlands chasing beers. Those on FB who have yet to mute me will have seen the goings on. Beers ranged from a lovely IJsbock at 25.1% down to a Leffe 0.0. The latter being the best non-alcoholic beer I've ever had. All in all 124 new to me beers enjoyed as well as several old favourites. Not much else to say. I'm still catching up on 9 pages of ERs. Coffee awaits, as does a rather full email inbox. Enjoy the day. 21

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. A tad late as I spent some extra time soaking in the bath. Breaking news this morning, theres been an incident at the Houses of Parliament involving petrol and armed police. It was bright and sunny this morning but now a bit cloudy with rain predicted later. It looks like Lorenzo is tracking north which means all the wet warm air is heading our way so a soggy weekend is in prospect.

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted October 1, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 1, 2019 (edited) Afternoon from a soggy Surrey. Just started raining again so no work on the proposed canopy to the shed or grass cutting. I have been fitting handrails to L & B coaches and giving LYN a bit more of a run. A break for lunch then back in the shed to do some painting then decoder installation crust earning. Whilst we had quite a lot of beer over the long weekend we didn't match Andrews. Now drying out for a few days before having any more. Edited October 1, 2019 by roundhouse 19
Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings all from LBG where the rain, which was in force when I stepped out to get a soup, has now been replaced by sun and blue skies. Younger Lurker enjoyed his day at the residential; dry slope ski-ing was his main activity' according to one of the other children, he's very good at it. He's in school today but back down there tomorrow. We are in a new financial year and the rigours of year end work will soon be upon us. in the meanwhile I have been handed a task that no-on has managed to do for the last couple of years and been told it needs doing by the end of the month. Either it's because they think I am the man for the job or it's my turn to be blamed for something not happening....my money's on the latter Best wishes to those who are ailing, John and Sandy, Aditi, Beth - and no doubt there are others too. 6 1

Popular Post Ian Abel
Chewsday morning all... Flurry of activity abounds at the "client". Have I mentioned recently I hate E&Y (actually ANY auditing yobos!). I think the primary goal, obviously since the more time they take the more money they probably charge, of these organizations is to make sure that ANYTHING they are presented with is in the wrong format, and decide/require mounds of work to change it to their preferred format. WAIT A MINUTE, "...you bozos were the ones that set the format LAST freaking year, why is it NOW not useable...". Still, their making more money to create the same end result means "I" do the same essentially, just painful to reverse what has been done before just for the sake of it Nothing else to report! First thing 16 and cloudy driving in, a little busier than yesterday, but acceptable. 24 for the high with the possibility of showers later. Yours, Killing/wasting time evenings in a suburban Long Island hotel I share your view of auditors. And so many have been found to have failed recently. They got away with it for years. Colleagues in the accounts dept used to be terrified of the audit (every six months) until I explained that the vast majority of the audit team are trainee accountants who know nothing at all. What a brilliant business model. You get paid fortunes at the same time as getting all your trainees educated free of charge by people who know about accounting in the real world. 6

Popular Post trisonic
Here is my Jessye Norman story. In 1983 I was as they say "hot" at EMI - in 82 I'd been appointed (as Bhaskar Menon told me) the Uncrowned Prince of Compact Disc. By 1983 the growth of Cd's was advancing along exponential lines such that we were still always short of capacity versus demand, it was difficult but we could see light at the end of the tunnel. Anyway on the way out to Tokyo me and two colleagues stopped off to spend a few days with Capitol Records in Los Angeles before negotiating prices and demand from Toshiba. Capitol looked after us well and one afternoon I was asked if I wished to see Jessye Norman perform at the then Dorothea Chandler Pavilion. I was warned that we would miss the first act - an experimental piece (nothing to do with Jessye) where there was expected trouble from the audience (I mean who'd thunk that a classical music audience could get rowdy) Rowdy they did get at least verbally whilst our little group waited in the foyer. It died down and we were waved in. Everybody was settled as we were escorted to our seats (which were rented by Capitol (Angel) on an annual basis) . As soon as i sat down the lights went down and the curtains opened. Entering from stage right was this amazing apparition. It was like watching a Spanish Galleon sailing in - a largish figure, quite tall on the stage, with a beautiful face (she was 38 at the time 6 years older than me}. I was hypnotized but it got better. Our seats were 3 or 4 rows back, dead centre and our heads were level with hers. She looked up and started singing "Death and the Maiden" (about Cleopatra commiting suicide, I think). She was looking straight into my eyes - it was freaking impressive because she was singing this directly to me. The whole time she sang her eyes were locked into mine and when it was over I was feeling exhausted... The guys on either side of me both asked if I knew her from before - I'd barely heard of her let alone knew her. A wonderful experience of a wonderful artist that I'll never forget (and don't ask)... Best, Pete. Edited October 1, 2019 by trisonic Wot's it all abaht, Alfie?
