Popular Post Ian Abel
BIN day, successfully to curb last night given it was supposed to be hissing it down this AM - and it was... Mrs managed a successful Costco run AND book club yesterday, that's positive. Tonight is the first rehearsal for our choir to start the season - happy hour with beer and pizza will be the pre-rehearsal usual, alas missing our dear friend who passed away earlier this summer 14 and rain first thing, high expected to reach 21 with rain off and on all day. Enjoy the day best you can. 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post NGT6 1315 Posted September 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2019 Cheers all. Overcast and with evidence of nocturnal precip this morning, later replaced by fairly nice mix of sunshine and clouds. Slept pretty well after the exhaustion of yesterday, too! Today saw us mostly tidying up things at what is now the "old" flat, which will probably continue tomorrow. We organised a painter to put a fresh layer of white on the walls next week, too. In between, I bought ingredients for beef Stroganoff, which is what I'll commence preparing in a few minutes. Some beer will doubtlessly be consumed later tonight. ¡Hasta luego, compañeros! 23
RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted September 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2019 Afternoon All Again all best wishes to John and Sandy and a hope that the anticipated scan takes place soon. We do seem to be missing a few ERs at the moment - Debs has been quiet here and on FB, Simon also, and has anybody got any news on Pete Trisonic? It is chuckinitdarn here (again) - I really do think that we might move to a drier part of the country at some stage. Had a really nasty cramp in the night, so much so that I was on the phone to the quack at 0800 and two seconds - he won't reduce my statin, and suggested that a few glasses of tonic water would help because of the quinine content - he didn't suggest that I have any gin with it, and that's OK by me. as I don't like that spirit anyway. Then 30747 broke a tooth, and had to phone the fangmeister at -08.30 and two seconds. So we went off together to town, me to the doc at 11 and her to the dentist at 10.30 - so it all worked out quite well. Back tomorrow Regards to All Stewart 9 1

As an aside, Venice is loosing a lot of its native population, which means entire Villas (not just apartments) on the canals are going for a song. I was quite tempted.... Just think, for the same price as a pokey little flat in Shoreditch you can buy a Palazzo in Sestiere Cannaregio or Sestiere Castello in Venice... I'd be more inclined to think about the ever-rising cost of preventing it sinking slowly into the lagoon 2

Well done. My taste buds have to wait until the real stuff appears in the local outlets from October to December. I was a bit premature lifting it, not ready yet, still too bitter to eat raw, will be ok in soups and stews, I'll wait until bonfire night before lifting the next one.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted September 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2019 Busy week. Golf report from a few days ago Thursday - North West Seniors League President's Day at Berrington. Individual scores counting towards a team score. We finished a creditable 3rd. (My own score matched the average of our 10 scores to count out of 12. Friday - Captain's Day out at Kirkby Lonsdale - the day promised to be very, very wet, passing through two distinct weather systems on the way there, but was sunny from the first tee. I finished in 4th place. Two days of golf where I felt I played quite well, but results didn't show it. Hockey report. A home 2-3 loss against Widnes Wild (they were the winners of the league below last year but there wasn't any relegation/promotion). The Hawks are a late team to form for this season and a number of them hadn't played together, but were starting to gel and it was only in the 3rd period that the Hawks started to really play and the last 5 minutes was an all-out assault on the Widnes defensive zone, but credit to them, the Wild resisted for a well deserved win. I didn't manage to get to the return match on the Sunday, but a 10-5 win for the Hawks shows that things are coming together. Problem is the next match that I'll most likely see is 6 weeks time (holiday/exhibition/work commitments) Unless we go to an away game. Much modelling has also been done, including submission of an article to a magazine regarding one of my projects - although you'll have to look elsewhere on RMw for that.... Back to the golf. Club singles knockout final today. After two semi-final losses in the past few years and a defeat in the final last year, I was looking to take it one further. A hard fought game with holes swapped and halved - with nothing more than one hole between us until I go 2 up after 13. Managed to throw away a half on the 17th that would have given me the 2&1 win. So 1 up on the last tee. Opponent misses a 6 footer to win the 18th to send the match into sudden death. Game over, job done. Very happy. There may be a mid-week celebratory beverage consumed later. Cheers, Mick
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted September 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2019 Evening. A steady day, which included a brief but pleasant conversation this morning with John DMJ on a professional basis. Well, pleasantries were 90% of the chat, but it's always a pleasure to speak. An odd weather day, when the 'feel' was nothing like the indicated temperature, and it was unpleasantly showery and blustery. Sunny now of course, when the day is all but over. As also discussed with John, my internal barometer was creating havoc due to the changeable weather, the foot and hip vying with one another for the biggest attention grabbing pain. Co-codamol tonight I think. 12
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 12, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2019 Health centre visited and "Advanced Physio Practitioner" was seen. Much bending and stretching and probing and prodding of the offending joint took place along with a multitude of questions about how, what, when , where and why? etc. X-rays show no damage at all to my replacement knee. He is fairly certain that I have "slightly" ruptured the lateral collateral ligament but does not think (given the mobility I currently have) that referral to a surgeon is needed at present. Even if referred he seriously doubts the surgeon would do anything! More physio has been recommended with an instruction not to overdo it and go back to him if it gets worse. TBH I am not surprised by anything he said so will KBO.

I did the 1.5 mile circuit with Shona while wearing the brace and it does seem to work. There were none of the twinges I've been getting recently. The brace is designed to transfer the load from the dodgy cartilage to the "good" side. The only problem is I'm not sure any of my trousers will go over it so I may have to wear my kilt instead. For skiing I might have to buy some tight fitting legging things and wear the brace on the outside. Should be a good conversation piece on the lifts. "Ho yes! Burglared it up when I went off-piste last season at St. Moritz." 15

Popular Post AndyID
I think we're supposed to "downsize" at my age, but we seem to be going in the wrong direction. This is the view from our house. Most of what is in the view is an undeveloped one-third acre lot across the street. We've been very fortunate because it has remained undeveloped since we bought this place in 1995. Panic set in when the owner put the vacant lot up for sale in August. MrsID was particularly alarmed at the prospect of having to look at a house where none had been for 24 years so after a fair bit of hand-wringing and financial jiggery-pokery we bought the vacant lot. This also means that I'll be able to fell the trees that are blocking our view of the lake. 24 years ago they were only a few feet tall and we had a great view. We will plant small trees to replace them. The lot also comes with a boat slip on a community dock. We were sold a boat slip along with this house, but as it turned out we were stiffed! The boat slip is transferable to our existing lot, but we'll let our kids decide what they want to do when the time comes. 25

Why should we, the house is all ours in a nice area and as its a three BR which is just right for my wife and I so no real need to downsize. What would I do with the layout anyway? RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 12, 2019 Good evening everyone The skies have stayed grey all day, but the rain for the best part of the day. A lot of progress has been made in the cellar, the new stair risers have been permanently fitted, but I’m not fitting the handrail and spindles until the last of the BIG items have been moved either in or out of the cellar. I then started painting the walls and ceiling, so far the ceiling has had 2 coats and the walls have had 1 coat, but the upper part has had 2 coats, I’m glad I mixed up the amount I did, as I’ve already used over half of it! As I mentioned earlier, I was on the school run this afternoon, so I had to knock off early. It’s looking a whole lot different down there now, to what it was just over 6 months ago. After tea and a short rest I went to Salford Quays for a swim. The weather was warm, but it started to rain as I was heading for the water and the wind had picked up, making it quite choppy at the top end as you turned towards the wind. However, despite this, I still managed another personal best tonight, completing a mile in 32 minutes. Once home, I hung my wetsuit up to dry in the cellar (it’ll go out on the line tomorrow) and then went upstairs and poured myself a bottle of Doombar. Now it’s time for bed, goodnight all. 19
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 12, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Track night went well, I tested a couple of items one of which was taken out of the box for the first time despite being purchased three or four years ago, despite that it ran perfectly. 1 hour ago, Mike Bellamy said: This programme may answer a few questions . . . . . . . . https://www.questod.co.uk/show/salvage-hunters-the-restorers . I have a couple of wooden chairs that are about 90 years old and with an interesting history, they were church pews sold off when the church was rebuilt. I might get in touch with them to see if they can be restored.
