RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted September 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2019 I continue to breathe though have fallen somewhat out of touch with ERs and indeed with RMweb in general of late. My time seems to be required for other tasks. Quite apart from the continued need to pay close attention to the still-unpredictable welfare of SWMBO I have commissioned magazine articles and a book to write plus many thousands of photos to sort and either keep, edit / keep or delete. A week of annual leave occurs at the end of this month which will include a couple of days walking on the Cornish coast around Zennor and Pendeen in addition to hosting some Aussie friends over on a family-finding mission to Scotland and almost of necessity passing through Heathrow and so too close to avoid us! Cooler weather has brought on a feeling of slightly advancing years as the joints have refused to behave and on occasions have given persistent discomfort. I dislike having to come inside and turn on the heating just because the evenings are drawing in. Best wishes to all. I shall continue to visit this place of warm friendship and generous support.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted September 7, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2019 Good evening everyone Well I had a good old spend at the Wakefield show today, I had rather a long shopping list and I was able to purchase almost everything on it, as well as a couple of things that caught my eye, but the most I spent on a single item was £20.00. I did have quite a bargain on the members sale table, picking up 6 second hand Lenz decoders, 4 gold and 2 others for a total of £25.00. I also bumped into Chrisf and we had a brief chat before we both went our separate ways. Tomorrow I will have a lot of stuff to put away, but that will have to be after I’ve washed the car, as it is in need of cleaning, having not been done since May, when it was serviced. Goodnight all.

Tony If they are not actually a bilingual society, then a lot speak English, usually with heavy accent which is better than my French so we get by. Popular Post Ozexpatriate
Autumn is here quite suddenly. We did not see the sun today and temperatures did not reach 20°C. It pretended to rain for a little while this afternoon with very fine drizzle, but the ground ended up wet. Many televised sporting diversions are available including the US Open tennis and (American) football in full swing with the second week of the Collegiate season and opening weekend for the professionals. With the exit of the Swiss Maestro in the quarters, I am hoping for Rafa to win in Flushing Meadows tomorrow. He will have the crowd behind him. My son offered to help me clean out my office first thing in the morning, but was supposed to call me this evening to coordinate a time. As of writing (at around 10:00pm) I have not heard from him. I have an interview for an internal position on Thursday. The admin who set up the meeting schedule has made it a day trip to the Bay Area with a flight departing at 5:40am. Thursday will be grueling and exhausting. I really should be working harder on some interview preparation, but am finding the weekend's buffet of sporting events fuel for procrastination. It's probably just as well I don't have access to the cricket on my TV. (It is possible, for an additional fee.) I am dreading hearing just how bad the loss of life in the Bahamas will be. Due to the many levels of difficulty involved, the news outlets seem to be obliging me by ignoring the story today. I presume that the remnants of Dorian will have blown themselves out before Tony and Aditi sail back into the Golfe du Saint-Laurent (assuming they plan to sail home). The remnants of the storm (presently still blowing at 100mph) are supposed to exit the gulf and be offshore of Newfoundland and Labrador in the Labrador Sea by Sunday evening. James Wolfe was much more successful in 1759 on the Plains of Abraham than were Benedict Arnold and Richard Montgomery on New Year's Eve in 1775. On a personal level Wolfe and Montgomery had the same fate - each of theme died at the gates of Québec. Despite having earlier captured Montreal, Montgomery is largely forgotten. Had Arnold and Montgomery succeeded it could have greatly impacted the subsequent prosecution of the war. Arnold of course would later be instrumental* in the defeat of John Burgoyne (attacking from Canada) at Saratoga in 1777, leading to the French entering the war. * His superior officer, Horatio Gates would claim the credit and then lobby the Congress to replace Washington as commander in chief. His career as a general ended with his horse carrying him as fast as possible away from Cornwallis after being defeated at Camden, South Carolina in 1780. 1

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted September 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 8, 2019 (edited) Morning all from a land that makes no pretence to be bilingual. However many people answer in English if I make a reasonable attempt to ask in French. It is certainly getting autumnal and the nights are closing in. Our neighbour across the road now rides his mower tractor round the garden at 7.45pm rather than 9pm. Allegedly it's his way of calming down after a row with his Mrs. We've chrstened him, "The Night Mower". I'm sure that could be a book title. He rides for a couple of minutes. Then it goes quiet for 10 minutes, 2 minutes more ridi g, 10 more minutes of quiet then a final burst of noise. Anyway, much ivy was cut off the wall yesterday morning and hopefully the mayor will be happy. Despite lower overnight temperatures the pool was still 26 when I got in to give it a hoover. We had a walk round the village after tea, going scrumping. Some friends whove gone back tothe UK have told us to take as many as we can from their garden. Today Le Chasse resumes after it's summer break, I believe that it's only for Pheasant shooting this month. I just hope that no peasants get harmed after their customary lunch break. Off to the market this morning then out for lunch at some friends house. Good to here a positive day of news from John and Sandy. The situation in the Bahamas sounds terrible. The less said about the cricket the better. Regards to all. Jamie Edited September 8, 2019 by jamie92208 18
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 8, 2019 Good morning all, Sunshine and a mainly blue sky here so it looks like being a fine day. In a couple of hours we will be heading west via M25, M3 and M4 and hopefully will end up in a designer outlet car park which is quite near a museum holding a model railway exhibition. I leave you to figure out where my priorities lie. The Knee is suggesting I put my walking stick in the car, just in case it is needed. Have a good one, H.Obbler. 18

RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted September 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 8, 2019 Morning, Sunny now, clouding over later but hopefully warming a little too so apart from more drawings, time will be spent visiting a garden centre as chauffeur to SWMBO who requires bulbs to be planted alongside our short driveway (to act as food for assorted rabbits and squirrels no doubt) and cleaning cars (just in time for it to rain tomorrow). I may watch events from a Royal Park in northern Italy but my general demeanour, already challenged by the 600+ clowns who sit on green benches and the 800+ clowns who sit on red benches in central London and the final stage of F1 qualifying yesterday would plummet were I to sit through the inevitable surrender of eight more of England's best(?) cricketers. Ah well, I feel some eggs and bacon are in order to lighten my mood. Nice to hear that Sandy has managed a bit of food too John, my thoughts are with you as with others who contend with their own struggles. My issues are trivia in comparison. 18 1
