RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 When I started working, our programmer managed to get working space in IBM's offices. As this was a secure area, he was to show a pass to get in and out. He discovered that by using the parking lot for the other company in the building, he could enter IBM without showing his pass. He made a point, though, of always signing out. Yesterday we found one adult bee in the railway room and one more larva. The bee was carefully escorted outside. 18
Popular Post Robert
Morning All, It is rather a chilly morning today, not made better by the fact that I seem to have come down with a slight cold. Nothing too bad though. 7 hours ago, AndyID said: Managed to beat the PCB layout software into submission to produce this. In theory it has also produced the CNC code to drive my Woodpecker (for goodness sake knock it off you lot!) but we'll see. Admittedly not the most ambitious PCB. Single sided copper, one small chip, two connectors and two resistors. It's actually an optocoupler that prevents servos going bananas due to electrical interference. After a bit of a wait I should be seeing Doctor Knee tomorrow. I was talking to someone who is one of his patients and they seemed to think he'd get me fixed up so I could ski this year. I'm less optimistic but it would be fantastic if that turned out to be true. That's some pretty good isolation routing there, Andy. A Woodpecker shouldn't have any problems with that. I've got one myself, but haven't really had the time to concentrate on getting it working. Have a good day everyone... 19
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all Today will see some preoccupation with banking matters. The summary statement from the beginning of this month shows a few oddities. My pension is due to go in today so with any luck an instant statement will make it more obvious what has happened, or not happened as the case may be. For reasons best known to the bank they do not open till 10 am on Wednesdays. This is not good for my patience! Roundhouse, thanks for your words on ATMs in Prague. I have never mastered the intricacies of exchange rates and doubt that I will visit a model shop. The problem that I have created for myself will be solved by a modest injection of Czech currency and judicious use of the card. More ironing has appeared and a fodder run needs to be done. I have also to write a report of last night’s talk by Adrian Shooter, who was at his most relaxed and candid best. That may have to wait until tomorrow Tonight should be a bit more enjoyable than money matters. I have been invited to an album launch at the Slaughtered Lamb, a strange pub near Farringdon. The album is by Ben Moss and I have already helped him launch it once, at Sidmouth. Ben is an accomplished dancer and superb singer. Some years ago he was part of a trio called Rosco and I was impressed that someone of what was at the time such a tender age should have discovered the work of Nic Jones, let alone perform one of his songs faultlessly. It is a while since I have reflected on the situation of John and Sandy, which I do not envy one little bit. This does not mean that I am not thinking of you, far from it, but mere words only go so far. Best wishes to all Chris 18

The infernal beast was stationary over some Bahamian islands, including Grand Bahama and Great Abaco, for the better part of 24 hours. Ultimately the center of the storm picked up speed to the staggering speed of 1mph. Having a category 5 hurricane and attendant storm surge for that long is inconceivable. Much of the International airport at Freeport was underwater. Storm surge like this is very dramatic when contemplating the impact of rising sea levels. Apparently it is now bowling along at 7mph. This is very unusual behaviour for a hurricane, but hurricanes are very unusual phenomena. The extent of the damage and casualty toll will become more clear in the next few days. I suspect that what we see so far is only a glimpse. 3 10

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 Good morning all from a place that looks as if it's going t be sunny again. It got to nearly 30 yesterday afternoon. I had spent a lot of the day out doing various errands. In the morning I headed east to get a birthday card for the boss and the Dr's. I had a bit of spare time so went to the station and this happened to come in with a train of welded rail. I thought that Mick (NB) might like that one. The Dr's visit went well, she was very happy with the various numbers from a blood test and has reduced my statins. After lunch I headed south west to the Danglies of St John and bought the new cupboard and sink that are needed for the re-arranging of the utility room. You will all be pleased to know that though slimline, (Only 18" wide) it is white not blonde and definitely not Swedish. On the way back I attempted to take a photo of the watchful buzzard that guards the entrance to the village. Not brilliant but it has given me some ideas for my next try. Today my main task is fitting the LED lights in the kitchen cupboards. Hopefully some brownie points will be accumulated. In the process I may well listen to some cricket from the dark side of the Pennines. Thoughts and prayers are very much with John and Sandy. The planning process sounds horrendous to an outsider but from experience in the past, it can be very helpful. It's also good that The Toe is finally getting near to being treated. Thoughts are also with others in need. Now breakfast calls. Jamie
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 Ey up! Very overcast and wet here. Why, well someone has a T20 schools cricket cup final scheduled for 2pm today. Apologies to all other residents of Leeds. Talking through futures is good. When my father died we had no time left to talk so...he left envelopes with instructions in dotted around his house. All pass books, insurances had been placed with an appropriate instruction in a safe but identifiable place. I talked with Gabe ( Mals aka Purley Oaks widow) yesterday. We are visiting her to try and sort out Mals'model railway items . Mal and I had conversed a little about this before he died. I would have loved to have met Mal but alas it was not to be. Before cricket today I need to sort out my rolling stock at the club ready for our trip to Swindon on Friday. Andyram..yes Whitby is a nice place ..next door to one of my favourite places..Robin Hoods Bay. But boy does it get cold in the winter. Time for a mugatea. Best thoughts to all wgo ail or are missing (including Debs purveyor of the awl). Baz 17 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 (edited) Good morning all, Precipitation that has been persisting down for a few hours is now easing and there are sunny spells forecast for later. This is good news on the house painting front as he's only here later in the afternoons for two or three hours. Today has been designated P(for Paperwork)-Day. Apart from sorting out car insurance I appear to have lots of other little things to sort out that I've been putting off for a couple of weeks. After that I may wander down to The Shed. I have yet to figure out my next move down there, at the moment I haven't got the faintest idea! Have a good one, I.H.A. Ventgottaclue. RMweb Gold Popular Post Stubby47 Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 SWMBO is off to St Ives today, on the bus, so I will be taking No. 1 son to his volunteering duties at the charity shop in Truro. I'll then spend 3 hours pottering round before bringing him home again. So, museum? library? bookshops? cafes? So much choice... 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 John, having been through similar situations, I (like many others on here) can understand your present issues and I hope our virtual support provides some small measure of help. In a society where we have, over two successive generations experienced the largest growth in life expectancy, not only do we welcome the benefits of living longer but we also have to cope with seeing more of our friends reach the ends of their days, and not always wholly "peacefully in their sleep". Best wishes. And in that context, a very mundane "not a lot" planned here other than attempts to arrange a special day for SWMBO next week. Have a good day all, whatever you are up to. 21

Paperwork still to do from yesterday but not so much, packing to do as off tomorrow morning to Stratford upon Avon for brothers wedding on Friday. Had to cancel the coffee date today as no spare time to serve it justice, that's Sunday now. Better get on Horrorsons Pharmacy to visit for my 3 monthly script and a few other bits and piece for my journey north must get some cash too. Enjoy your day A.S. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 4, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Comments about being prepared set me thinking. I done my will over 12 years ago, before I retired. So much has changed in the intervening years that I think that I ought to make a new one, I will have to consult members of my family first. Weather here is much the same as GDB's, a bit damp overnight but the strong breeze is drying everything up. Thats it for now, be back later.
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple hare, A XXXXX awful nights lack of sleep, I got into a technical discussion on a sailing forum about the boat I'm reconstructing, and my brain went into overdrive over the various fairly good ideas that were suggested. This discussion is still going on, and I was also busy at work busy until now. But it's now measure 10G ohm resistors time, connect up set up, sit and wait hardly moving for 20 minutes then set up for the next one. I have 8 of these measurments to do.. Ben the Border Collie was happily short in excursion time, this morning, as it was Chucking it down. It has several times since, you can hear it very loudly with not having a ceiling in the old lab at the moment. We are being allowed to transit through the old lab, even though there is an electrician in there finishing off the rewiring. oooh I can move, another one done.. Time too.. Sit still again, I've swapped to the next one, 19

Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings from LBG where the rain has ceased and the sun is shining between the clouds. First day back at school for the Lurker boys seems to have passed off OK. Younger Lurker struggled to get in through the gate, but held himself together and seemed a bit more chipper by the end of the day. Elder Lurker seems to be well pleased with his upper 6th timetable; late start on Monday and 4 half days. I shall recommend that he seriously considers a history degree.... Not an awful lot to report save that I have a sore toe - reasons unknown - but nothing compared to what is going on in other people's lives (not even The Toe). Best wishes to all who are suffering, especially John and Sandy and best wishes to Gabe; Mal's presence is missed on ERs. 19 1
Popular Post Ian Abel
HUMP day all... Panic at the client as we're one day away from the finance director leaving - was supposed to be a week ago but he got a better offer than the last one, and stayed on here until today! Additionally, on track now to completely revamp everything that's in place apparently, thanks to the vast unchecked numbers of new management viewing the stuff!! Yesterday the Mrs visited friends - who are also the folks she works one day a week at, tutoring their handicapped daughter - and all reports from her, Jemma and the friends indicate she had a very good day. She was extremely tired at the end of it, the meds make her tired anyway, but she did well. Possibly will be able to work her one day next week. I left the hotel five minutes later than usual this morning, then DISASTER STRUCK, the entire eastbound population of Long Island suffered a common affliction accompanied by screams of "...ARRGHHH, what's that bright yellow ball in the sky, MY EYES, someone needs to invent sun glasses or sun visors for cars or something..." Twice a year? Really? If you're old enough to drive you MUST have seen this phenomenon before, surely (Shirley!!) Obviously not <sigh> So, a slow drive in! 20 and mostly sunny (see above!) driving in, expected to reach 27 later but the afternoon and early evening supposed to see some severe thunderstorms. Make it so number one... Edited September 4, 2019 by Ian Abel 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 4, 2019 Car insurance now sorted. I misread my renewal quote and when I looked at it again the the thieving scrotes had increased it by 41% and not 25% as I first thought. After visiting a well known comparison site and also a couple of companies not quoted thereon I've gone back to Lloyds Bank who have insured me in the past. Their price is £127 cheaper than that of "Scrotesbury's Bank" and only about £20 more than this year. I can live with that. Now just waiting for the painter who is due any minute now. 22
