SWMBO now has the new spectacles but she isn't that happy with them (grrrr...).  I managed 16 holes of golf with an old friend and playing companion at the course to which I belonged before we moved away. He was flagging after 14 and has a new round of Chemo starting tomorrow so we thought it best to end the round before he got totally knackered. Second visit to Specsavers re SWMBO's new glasses didn't really offer any improvement but at least her concerns are now on record. Trip back home almost uneventful until some dork in an older Merc decided he didn't like Lane 1 and swung across into Lane 3 which could have put me into the concrete central barrier had I not been watching.

 

I may now think about some sustenance before the Cribbage starts.

Evenin' each,

Shopping shopped and a birthday card bought for The Boss, some 3+weeks before the event. Must be some sort of record!

Came home and cut a table in half and managed to stay in one piece myself. Dump visited and garden furniture er dumped. Forgot to take the mower, strimmer and other lawn cutting tools that are no longer required. Asked several people if they want them to no avail.

Spent about an hour outside chatting to a neighbour and putting the world road to rights. It's not quite the same now that the glamour model/porn star has moved out!

Hoovered out the car and did one or two little tasks around the house and then the painter came. He's a good lad and the outside of the house is looking brighter already.

The Knee requested more Shiraz earlier so I have complied. I may comply again shortly.

John and Sandy, I cannot offer prayers, but I can certainly offer the most supportive thoughts I can possibly project in your direction.  Having helped dearest friend Jayne through the sudden loss of her husband, I can only say - talk.  I'm sure you do, but there can be things left unsaid that later you wish you had mentioned. Jayne didn't have that due to Gary's death in an RTC, and it haunts her.

 

Not much else to say really about my day, it's all not important in perspective.

After taking The Toe for a visit to the practice nurses (for the last time before it is hacked about this time next week) and visiting the vets to get some things for the cat that has now adopted us, moved in and taken over the house, I had allsorts of plans for making inroads into the to-do list. What actually happened was that I looked at the list, thought about what is happening to John and Sandy, and said to Jill, "Let's go out for lunch." After lunch we both spent the afternoon in the workshop, Jill doing her art stuff, me making some track and just enjoying being together. No progress on the to-dos but invaluable quality time in a simple, quiet way instead.

 

I think the phrase is carpe diem.

 

With thoughts and prayers for John and Sandy and hoping that they can spend some quiet, quality time together.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. I've no idea where the time went today but I've done nothing much at all today. Had an e-mail from SEERS this afternoon regarding our oldest member (96 years old IIRC). He will be appearing on the Antiques Road Show this Sunday (not as an antique) but knowing Ray it will probably be something transport related and interesting. Unfortunately since the show was recorded he has had to go into a nursing home due to failing eyesight but he still has all his marbles.

Evening all, managed the first of several planned tip runs, having a serious tidy up, bits I have had for years gone and more to follow, supermarket sweep done and a fair bit of the "G" woes done whilst it was dry, no muddling today, demolished a huge roast beef dinner instead and now after blackberry crumble allowing it all to settle with a malt whisky.

A really nice red sky, the shepherds will be delighted...…………….

I was in the garage, laying ballast and listening to Bruckner 7 conducted by Bernard Haitink.  Meanwhile, we live in interesting times.

Managed to beat the PCB layout software into submission to produce this.

 

 

In theory it has also produced the CNC code to drive my Woodpecker (for goodness sake knock it off you lot!) but we'll see.

 

Admittedly not the most ambitious PCB. Single sided copper, one small chip, two connectors and two resistors. It's actually an optocoupler that prevents servos going bananas due to electrical interference.

 

After a bit of a wait I should be seeing Doctor Knee tomorrow. I was talking to someone who is one of his patients and they seemed to think he'd get me fixed up so I could ski this year. I'm less optimistic but it would be fantastic if that turned out to be true.

Journey research/planning for tomorrow now underway with the rather obvious question to The Good Doctor of 'where exactly are we going?'  In return I'm told 'Solent University' and 'the main entrance' - so my next question was 'which main entrance?' as a wander round the building frontages on Google has revealed several of them with none visibly called 'main' - she is enquiring of the event organiser.  But on the uni website I did find a pic of the ship's bridge simulator - it looks very interesting although I do wonder if it has the dreaded touch screen steering etc control system, that could be very interesting and provoke some nice discussion if it has.

 

The train timetables are a much simpler proposition and the weather looks ok for So'ton.

We are just about to leave the land of lobsters and blueberries to set off to Corner Brook in Newfoundland. There may be some "weather" following us as we head north but nothing to worry about according to our Captain. Weather today has been fine. Calm sea as we were tendered ashore. Sunny spells throughout the day.

One of the soloists on the Serenade to Music was Heddle Nash.  As a teenager, I lived in the same road as his widow.  She wore beige, the house was painted beige and she had a beige spaniel.  Best wishes, John and Sandy.

Good evening one and all. Belated birthday greetings to Tony and my thoughts once again passed to John and Sandy. You have been in my prayers each night. I had the pleasure of meeting  John once at the Weston on Trent show and enjoyed a pleasant chat. John, if you ever are Matlock Bath, and want to chat the kettle will always be available. (The same offer extends to all ER's of course). I do hope that John and Sandy can find some quality time together. 

 

 Recently I have been battling the dark canine who has reared his ugly head on several occasions. Family outings to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Twycross Zoo were both threatened to be derailed by the dreadful beast although the latter day out proved to be more successful. Yesterday was a very different day. Sarah suggested a trip to the coast as a final fling before Amber went to school. Skegness and Cleethorpes are about our nearest resorts, and the latter has been the usual choice for a day trip and was dutifully suggested by myself again. But Sarah suggested otherwise - "let's go back to where we went on holiday at the start of the summer" She said. Who was I to argue......

 

 

Only five weeks ago we enjoyed the hottest week of the summer in Whitby. The weather yesterday was very different but who cares. It is funny, but no matter how bad things have been, the moment the car crests the hill by the Hole of Horcum and the moors come into view I can feel the weight and pressures lift and the black dog disappears. The relaxation continues along the moors road and as the town appears in the distance I feel like I am home. 

 I have never lived in Whitby, I have enjoyed many a family holiday there. I have travelled up for days on the NYMR during my holidays from teaching and Sarah and I had our first holiday together in Levisham. Amber also had her first holiday there. There is just something special about the place.

 Yesterday we braved the rain for time on the beach and Amber and I even ventured into the sea. There was time on the arcades, a stroll around the shops and even a trek up the steps to the Abbey.

 

 

In the evening there was a meal in the "Fisherman's Wife" restaurant and a pint of a delicious local ale. Whilst on the 2p machines Sarah won the following fridge magnet. Could be a message here.....

Good evening everyone 

 

After this morning’s Sainsbury’s Grand Prix and all the shopping had been packed away, I made myself a muggertea. Whilst out I called in at our local Aldi and they had a portable workbench on offer, £9.99, they were £14.99 a couple of weeks ago, so I bought one, which I can use as a spare, or to support large jobs I’m working on. So after muggertea No2 was finished I decamped to the cellar and erected said workbench. It’s not as robust as my old one,  it it’s very nice and quite sturdy. Once done, I continued in the cellar and I removed all the masking tape from the stairs. Of course, there were a few areas where paint had crept underneath so these were cleaned up and the stairs given a light cleaning and sanding ready for varnishing, this will commence tomorrow morning.
