RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted August 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 31, 2019 G'day all, Busy yesterday as herself had a Doctor's appointment at 08.30 to s which I duly escorted her and will now get her knees X-rayed to check for Arthur's-itis plus various blood tests including the vitamin B12 deficiency after years on metformin (thanks for that tip on here). But an early visit to town meant a proper job breakfast then a wait in the sunshine although herself decided she need to visit the jeweller to discuss the state of her engagement ring - that is to be rebuilt at considerable cost (which she fortunately will pay) but she's getting a freebie on doing some work on another ring - just as well when teh engagement ring rebuild cost runs into four figure. Then there was my booked chiropractor visit followed by pedicure time with the local cash only establishment (sorry one of the local cash only establishments - the town now has more nailbars than estate agents, in fact I think there are now more nailbars than pubs, very odd). As my usual Indian lady was pedicuring Mrs Stationmaster I got the Chinese (?Vietnamese) bloke instead - and that meant some very vigorous massage and foot bashing but it was like walking on air on the way home. No plans for today, my labourer has again failed to show (not unexpectedly as it happens) and the Good Doctor has done the Tesco visit and bought a paper so sudoku and codeword is me this afternoon. May thsoe in/visting the land of Telf have an enjoyable day, whatever gauge you happen to like, and may everybody's weather be what they are wishing for. As. I filled the water butts from the mains yesterday I don't doubt that today's promised rain really will arrive, unlike that promised earlier in the week. 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted August 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 31, 2019 Rings, rebuilds and reconditioning thereof - topics that our Fraggle Rock correspondent and I know a few things about but in the form of monstrous ones of steel, not some delicate, digit-surrounding piece of artisan craft (or cheap tat as some jewellery chain owner once said prior to his company's shares plummeting). Those Neil and I were / are far more familiar with could be found in cylinders up to 1050mm bore and certainly didn't have any sparkly clusters embedded. I used to have a wedding ring. Whenever, long after I had left the sea, I was entering any space that had moving machinery in it, I would take the ring off to prevent getting it caught and would carefully stow it in a small tool box that I carried. Sadly one day some nearly thirty years ago, the handle of the box broke, the box dropped on to the carpark at the customer's factory and the contents (including wedding ring) scattered to the four corners. I have never been forgiven. As part of today's tasks, I have been made to pay once more for my previous misdemeanour at a local jeweller by purchasing another bauble / bangle / bead for her ladyship. I therefore have much sympathy with our learned master of the station. 3 1 1
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted August 31, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 31, 2019 Morning all. Heading directly to New York now as Storm Erin didn’t need to be avoided. It is a pleasant sunny day. We arrive in New York very early on Sunday morning. We have to muster in the theatre at 7.40 am for our excursion. We get escorted to immigration in the hope that the tour party say together. We shall see. Quarantine rules state we can’t take our reusable water bottle (unless empty) so I suspect we will have to buy a commercially produced sealed bottle for the trip. Have a good day. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted August 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2019 Afternoon awl.. Cut inserts for scenic boards, ...done 1 hourish change jigsaw blade for something aggressive, chop up scrap wood, done 4 hoursish. Found two pieces of mahogany 9inches by 4ft by 1inch , originally the console supports from the motor boat. They had so much paint on them when I took them off the motorboat, I thought they were crap chipboard like much of the boats interior. Mahogany now In the shed, on the might become useful pile. bramble clearance, not done move boat trailer , not done maybe move one or two large slabs, to continue putting a hard surface down for the trailer parking. not done. Ground off 44 screws that self drill through metal, off of trailer. Used mallet and cold chisel to prise two pieces steel chequer plate from stubs of screws. Can now see clearly how the flat bed fits on the trailer. Will grind off stubs when I'm ready to repaint trailer. More of the flatbed may become useful, Unprogrammed eyelid inspection.. than expected, for the trailer rebuild. Trailer needs de rusting, and a repaint. To be done when all excess metal has been cut off... Meal interruption. Nothing further will Be done to trailer until suspension parts arrive, I'll then place parts together, to see how they fit rather than trust dimensions from website. Off to look at rust prevention paints online... By for now..

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted August 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 31, 2019 Evening. Due to peace having broken out, I wandered down to the garage after morning duties and lunch out. I had left these two together.... ...not expecting anything untoward to occur. However, this has appeared, presumably the product of the genetics of the above two! At least that is what I am telling the lady of the arrows. Can't think how else it happened. Must use a barrier wagon next time! 7754 must have been transferred from Welsh Wales to the Forest of Dean (or my version- Forest of Nead) presumably. (NHN ducks, awaiting awl treatment). KZ, I never sailed on a 1050, we didn't have any, but RND90's a-plenty and a hideous B&W K98FF was the largest bore. 12 8

RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted August 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2019 Had a good day at Guildex, spending much time drinking coffee and chewing the fat with several RMWs including Bill Bishop, Crimson Rambler and the Welsh Wallower. I'll be seeing the latter again tomorrow and promise not to dwell too much on rugby scores.... Also hope to see Andy P and a few others. By the way Hippo, the answer to your earlier post is 'in the bike rack'. Hope you all had a good day and that it went well for Chris. Have a peaceful night all and thoughts and prayers for those who are les fortunate. Dave

bbishop
Keeping it simple, magnetism requires unpaired spin electrons. So iron, cobalt and nickel are magnetic. Their alloys may be magnetic but in steel, for example, the spin electrons are paired. Back from Telford. A private purchase of a Lenz V60, a tinlet of paint and a tube of Evostik. A meeting of twelve, a No8 and two hookers, I leave you to work it out. Church at 8am, and the chalice is locked in the safe, so to bed. Bill PS: a particularly recalcitrant safe - one needs "the knack" and neither the rector nor the curate have it. Indeed, it sent a churchwarden to hospital with a dislocated shoulder. 14

Further explanation the magnetic properties of pearlitic / martensitic / austenitic steels would be appreciated oh wise one, specifically why one is magnetic and another isn’t. I was under the impression ( perhaps misguided) that it was due to grain structure but it could easily be an age thing - it’s a long time since I was at college. You mustn’t dally with hookers, particularly if you have church duties on the morrow. “If I were the marrying kind, which thank the Lord I’m not sir, the kind of man that I would marry would be a rugby scrum half...” Good night all, and particularly take care John. 11
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 31, 2019 Good evening everyone We've had a very enjoyable day here at BSW towers. I picked Ava up just after 10:30 and we got back here about 5 minutes later. After we all had a quick chat, I had Ava a drink and I had a second muggertea, we then all decamped to the living room and Ava played with her toys for a few minutes before we all sat down to watch a film. Dinner was the usual when we have guests, namely pancakes for Ava and me, whilst Sheila had a sandwich, as she doesn’t eat pancakes! We then returned to the living and chatted until Ava was picked up by Ian and Charlie. They didn’t stop long as Charlie needed to get home so he could get ready for work. Tonight we had an Indian takeaway for tea, as we thought we deserved a bit of a treat, thankfully the rain held off during the walk there and back. Once we’d finished and decamped to the living room we opened a nice bottle of chilled Chardonnay. Goodnight all

RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted September 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 1, 2019 This was pest removal day. Last week we started finding little critters (1/4" long larvae) on the basement floor. After several bits of work, I decided they were coming from one part of the insulation. This was bits of fiberglass rather than the batt and there was also a vent pipe going nowhere. When I pulled out the fiberglass, there seemed to be a lumpy bit and also something that buzzed when i grabbed it. The area was sprayed with stuff and covered back up. This morning I removed the stuff and it included at least one yellow and black body. The whole area was vacuumed and filled with expanding foam. Next step will be reclosing. We went on a trip for the afternoon up to Bruce county where we used to have a trailer and had a walk along the lake. Everything is more crowded than it used to be.
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted September 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 1, 2019 Mooring Awl Inner Temple hare, A good solid nights sleep, which was surprising because.. A couple of hours after my last posting, I was on a sailing actually mentioning I crew a Yeoman keelboat in the winter when the phone rang. It was the father of the owner of the yeoman I crew. The owner has been in a motorcycle crash, and is seriously injured many bones broken one side where he hit a tractor. Ironically he was out with a group organised with something to do with ROSPA. .. While I was passing the information to the chairman of our winter sailing club via Email. Messenger burst into life, we have a little group on messenger between us four children.. This was about my dad again, he still in hospital, the oldest of my sisters discovered the hospital has no record of dads lump in his chest, and was requested by the hospital to go and speak to them about it. My oldest sister has a bad cold, not a good time to visit ICU about someone with breathing difficulties. So youngest sister was organized to go visit today. SMy sailing compatriot as online,, now they've taken him off an induced coma. So I sent an insulting email last night, I'm just going to see if he's replied then I'll hit the snooze button
chrisf
Good morning one and all I visited Leicester Pride yesterday. The route of the parade through the city centre was far from level, rising gradually towards the park at the end of the rainbow. The festival bit was more like a funfair than a pride but was well supported. Much later I attended a social in Bedford organised by the local LGBT group. Someone does not realise that the louder the music the more difficult conversation becomes. Voice in the wilderness signing off. Today I will be deleting some Messenger entries because they have not been read and have been overtaken by events. The intended recipient may well be cross. I would say serves him right for not reading them but the survival of a friendship is at stake. One mesage will be reposted and if it still isn't read I will send it through the post. Talk about fanning the flames. Why is everything so difficult? On Tuesday Adrian Shooter is addressing the local LCGB branch - phew, got it right this time. On Wednesday I have been invited to an album launch in London and at the weekend I will be at ExpoEM Autumn in a different bit of Wakefield. In between all that I may remember to water the tomato plant and have a stab at getting the laundry a bit more up to date. Next door but one have hired a skip which is filling rapidly with the sort of junk that fills skips. As with all skips, it has affected adversely the availability of parking spaces. Remind me not to go out for a few days. Best wishes to all Chris

As I recall, the principle of the linear motor, as forms the basis of Maglev transport, was demonstrated by Professor Eric Laithwaite using a sheet of aluminIum. It is down to the Eddy Currents which form in the metal rather than the metal's magnetic properties. 7
