RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2019 Breaking news - re-oiling the woodwork has been moved to the top of my agenda. This will of course require a visit to the store that repairs broken fasteners for Danish Oil, brushes and wire wool. That is clearly preferable to being dragged around various emporia by SWMBO as she fails to decide on which outfits she wishes to be seen in - and I can safely avoid answering the age-old question that for men should always result in a lying response: "does my bum look big in this?" At least the wood to be treated faces north on KZ's shack so I can get a lot done in the shade as The Dome has so little skin left on it that I can't afford to expose it to high levels of UV. Back later (I hope)....

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 26, 2019 Good morning everyone It’s a bit or a dull start to the day and a little bit cooler than of late, so that should make working outside a bit more comfortable. My first task will be to sand all the relief detail of the door, then I’ll do the ends. It will then get a could clean off before I give the door it’s first coat of undercoat, hopefully all before dinner. Back later.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Stubby47 Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 26, 2019 (edited) As I look out into the garden, beady eyes are staring back at me. On the left is Whistler, a seagull who has been coming the garden since she was able to fly. Tame enough to be hand fed by SWMBO. At the back is Ginge, a feral cat who will sit by the back door, staring in through the glass, but hiss and snarl as you put food out for him. On what threatens to be a very warm day we have tickets to see Les Miserables. They were booked nearly a year ago now and we thought it would be a good way to spend an (invariably) rainy August Bank Holidy Monday. On Friday, whilst browsing a local market I came across some ‘home made’ sugar free Lemon and Lime Curd. It is over a year since I have had any jam or the like so I thought I would give it a go. I’ve just had some with a slice of toast and it was delicious. Not sweet but just the right tartness. Enjoy your Monday and in the words of advice from those who know better than we do, don’t forget to drink. BoD, may I ask, was the "home made" curd from somewhere I can get a jar from. ? Visitors... gone Washing.. on line to dry/ in machine being washed Coffee ...drunk Beast..on charge May just have a little sit for a while. It was at a local craft market in my home town but I believe it is one of those stalls that spends each day at a different market. It sells only jams and curds. If, over time you visit different markets you recognise the same stalls. They must all have a fixed rota. I will get hold of a jar nearer the time and bring it to Hartlepool. 15

RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 26, 2019 The pirate party went well and much was eaten and drunk, although no alcohol was consumed until after the sun was well down on the western horizon as alcohol will dehydrate you sooner than you can say Grog! The treasure hunt went well as did the cannonball croquet. I have the lowest score, so remain the undisputed champion. Nephew George has recently taken up boxing, but found out the hard way that my Grandfather had been an amateur boxer who passed his skills on to myself. The gentle match he decided to initiate to show his newly acquired boxing skills ended up with me just clipping his jaw and knocking him over. My brother reminded George that he's better keep this defeat unmentioned at the gym otherwise everyone would know he'd been knocked over by a pensioner. I don't think the 'character building' milling matches that we had in the army helped George's cause. There was a sunset ceremony where the 2019 Penderyn Grand Slam whisky was passed over to my brother for safekeeping. Then we opened the 2012 bottle. There's not much left this morning. 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 26, 2019 Good morning from an overcast South West. Way much cooler here than its going ot be back home. Seeing Stubbys post, we managed to avoid our pasties being attacked by the seagulls in St Ives. My other half calls them the 'Pasty Munchers' Had a pleasant evening meal with brother who picked us up from his closest station, Newton St Cyres. Currently sitting in 1`st class on a 2 x 3 SWR 159 having paid the weekend first upgrade - way more comfy than a GWR standard class IET 'Marrow' seat and cheaper overall. No more beer for a while as fully beered out after the weekend.

Luckily the forecast is that its going to get cooler over the coming week. 3 hours ago, grandadbob said: One article in The Australian said "Cut the applause: Stokes was out." Yesterdsy a mysterious benefactor left us two bottles of eau de vie (75% plus) so it seems that with the pound and a half already gathered we have the maki gs of so e more sloe gin. Popular Post AndrewC
Good day eh. Back safe and sound in the boring borough after 3 days of beers in Brussels. The BXL fest was really a tale of 2 halves. Saturday was just an abject lesson in frustration. From taking ages to get the people into the hall, (converted goods shed actually) to 30 min queues at some points to buy beer tokens. Lack of seating. Asshats trying to push into obviously taken seats, queue jumpers, and my most hated species, the bar blocker. (the twatwaffle that gets his beer then stands there with his mates ensuring nobody else can order.) Sunday was the polar opposite. Very chilled atmosphere despite the 34c in the shed temp. We drank as much water as beer. I've come to the conclusion that the un-refurbished 373s were the most comfortable with their original TGV seats and better ride. Refurb 373 in second place. The e320s on the other hand are no more comfortable than a Thameslink worm and ride is worse than a 376 Electrostar. Bouncy as an inflatable castle at a children's party. Good to see Debs back, not so much the awl though. I find assembling IKEA furniture rather stress relieving. We've got the same drawers in dark blue as part of my office desk setup. Still no confirmation of this week's sojourn to Berlin for work. There is still a bun fight over the hotel supplement. At the moment I'd say I'm probably not going. It gets better as they've booked me on QueasyJet but without a bag. £45 each way if I am to haul the requested "business casual" and "party outfit" for Friday. Meh. Enough drivel. Belated happy anniversary to Andy & Mrs ID. Bon Voyage Tony & Aditi.

RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2019 First coat of Danish Oil on the bits of wood I had to sand heavily to remove the silvering (because it isn't uniformly across all sections) after rubbing down the rest of the garden doors. I shall return to it at around 7pm to apply a second coat before deciding if I need one or two more before coating the remainder of the doors and frame. Son has advised on the camera issue so I can now attempt to get it to work with the ultra-wide angle large aperture lens that I got specifically to do sky photos. Meanwhile, back to the drawing board (literally) to do more GAs for the Sports Club.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 26, 2019 (edited) Afternoon all. And it 'arf hot - but some clown is out there in full sun mowing next door's lawn; must have a heat resistant suit on. His ladship is currently in Madrid and according to the 'net it is actually cooler there, just, than it is here and it was no doubt even cooler when his taxi arrived here at 05.00 to waft him away to LHR following which BA not only actually operated his flight but it arrived in Spain on time. In a further effort to fall on his feet he had previously asked the company VP he is visiting there if he knew anything about a real ale bar with good food that a pal har recommended to Rob - answer from said VP was not only that he knew it but that it was owned by a good friend of his. The heat also produces some odd things such as Mrs Stationmaster saying yesterday that she was making a shepherd's pie for dinner. This struck me as most odd - not because said pie would be containing minced beef but I could hardly imagine her setting out in this weather to produce a load of mash to surface the pie. I needn't have worried - instead of mash it came topped with roast slices of a rather nice potato which comes from the supermarket; a brilliant idea and more than enjoyable in this sort of weather especially with a huge helping of runner beans from the garden. Tonight we have salad - much more seasonable. I have posted some more ship pics from the recent trip and once that simple task is out of the way I'll get on with the epic tales of tempest and diversions. Enjoy the rest of your day ADDENDUM - the final part of our April trip has - at long last - been posted here - Edited August 26, 2019 by The Stationmaster

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted August 26, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 26, 2019 Afternoon All Again, good to know that John and Sandie had a good, but tiring trip to Hailes Abbey - Debs - great to see that you and your mum managed to defeat an IKEA flat pack into completeness - 30747's niece's fiancee makes a living out of doing flat pack assembly, mainly IKEA for the people who can't manage it themselves. He apparently charges extra if he has to undo the mistakes and start again. It usually arises where two similar pieces are mis identified, and are slotted into the wrong places. And of course, generic greetings are on offer to all those ailing and celebrating. Weather here is unbelievable, it really is - forecast was for bright sunshine (like the South only a bit cooler, but only a bit), and continuing for a few days more, It has been pregressively deteriorating over the weekend, until when we rose this morning, it was not only cloudy, but mizzle was the order of the morning, and when we got to the car boot sale at Arnside, about half the stalls had not been set up, and about half of these had covers over. It started to clear over about ten. So then we went off to Lords Antique Centre at Ingleton, via Kirkby Lonsdale, then home. and 30747 is having a refresher on the tablet. Back tomorrow, when normality returns to chez 45156 as niece returns to Down South. Once she's gone, a few hours at LASAR should occur.
