RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 8, 2019 Good evening everyone Today I managed to get all the stair treads sanded down, although they still need a bit more work, as so far I’ve only used rough sand paper, so I still need to go over them all with medium and then fine, but they look a lot lighter now. After tea and a short rest, I went to Salford Quays for another swim and tonight I managed to do a mile in 36 minutes, another personal best and a full 1 minute quicker than Monday. The water is still warm (ish) at around 21C and again I wore only my swimming trunks. Once home and I’d put my swimming bag away, put my towel and trunks in the washing machine, I poured myself a bottle of Doombar. RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 We arrived home today just after noon. While the boss was taking the cat in, I managed a brute force on the lock and opened the door. The deadbolt is very stiff for some reason -- I had been afraid that I would twist the key off. I note that one of the bolts in the mechanism is almost a centimeter out. Just as we started moving stuff, the sky opened and it kept at it all the time we were unloading (with varying intensity) and stopped about when we were done. We have an appointment for the MH in 3 weeks. 2

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 9, 2019 Mooring awl, inner Temple Hare, Sleep well err. After packing up the buoys and a wander down to the Chinese for food, I set to work lifting the floor of the motorboat, then Removing the covers of the battery boxes, then topping up 24 2V cells with water. At that point I had the meal which had cooled enough to eat.. Then I hooked my DMM and Started battery testing, as last time out, the pack voltage collapsed to 30 V and the electric drive system shut down. Could I make it do it again.. No, every cell checked out OK even with full power on pulling at the moorings, it only dropped to 40 V after some time, and then returned to 48v + on shut down. So I packed away and lay on the berth to think about it, about 20:00, 23:55 I woke up.. And went to bed.. 03:55 the rain arrived with the leading edge of the forecast storm. It's now very dull with a easterly wind. Last race Wednesday a Reedling keelboat ( 20ft dinghy with a keel really) was leaving the moorings, and a lady broke her arm fending off a moored broads cruiser... So yesterday her husband was on rescue boat duties instead of sailing. It was uneventful as far as errant motorcruisers .. The wind was lighter than forecast, southwesterly in the morning, At lunchtime the various cruiser classes set of in practically no wind, we shortened on lot after nearly an hour.. They had travelled 400yards.. The taller masted cruisers had set off before, and did a Mile each way some taking nearly 2 hours.. The first afternoon race the south westerly returned, then having tacked their way to the first mark rounded that as... The wind did a 180 and they had to tack their way back... The wind gradually became stronger to something reasonable later.. The last race yesterday was the water babies.. That is juniors in fixed keelboats. Very trusting owners lend a 20ft to 25ft open keel boat to an under 16 to race.. Not surprisingly this is held entirely within view of the Clubhouse. With a running start from the Clubhouse they all arrived at the buoy at the same time, turned and... All completely underestimated the effect of a 2 knot incoming tide on a keelboat.. There were so many infringements you'd need a slow-motion video to work it all out . There was however no damage, but a fair amount of pushing off.. Time to finish this coffee... They might need some rescue boats if we race...

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 Good morning all from a sunny Charente. I hope that the UK based members stay safe over the coming few days. Despite the maritime part of our address there seems to be a micro climate here that sends most of the Biscay weather up to the North East and bypass us. T*rdsday passed without murder being committed. I even managed to escape the G word and managed some eyelid inspection on the afternoon. Fish and Chips, UK style, were consumed in our local town in the evening. An enterprising Brit comes round with a caravan every Thursday and does a good trade. The local PMU (Betting shop and bar) has a table full of Vinegar, ketchup and salt dispensers and the food is delivered to your table in the bar by the owners daughter. I don't know how I noticed but she does have a very long pair of legs. When we got home I even managed some time in the shed. The ironing needs to be done this morning and this afternoon we may have to inspect the interior of the pool. It's certainly a lot warmer than the 21 degrees that Brian swims in. I may even get some time in the shed. Congratulations to Dave and Mrs H. Who is going to get the medal. Jamie 20

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 Morning. Hard to tell.....touch grey and wet, little better outside. Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Hunt, sorry about the weather today, but you haven't had a bad run. House of Manannan is quite good, but I would have preferred it as a station. I'm off for a diabolical eye dilation this morning after seeing my GP too, 20 miles apart from each other of course. Then half a day wandering about like a Pirate with one eye out of control. I hate having this done. Then orders will no doubt be issued as Mrs NHN is off today too.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) A grey and wet start to our day of celebrations but not as bad as some parts of the UK. So far we've had champagne whilst opening our cards and watched the weather brightening up. After breakfast we're getting the bus to Peel then this evening we're having a special dinner at a place next door to where we are staying called 14 North. Many thanks for all the good wishes everyone. Jamie, the medal definitely goes to SWMBO Jill. Neil, good luck with the eye check. If I see a pirate on my travels I'll say hello. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 Good morning everyone It’s raining, I’m glad I didn’t water the plants yesterday evening. Still Sheila is quite happy that it’s dull as she’s having another diabolical eye test in just under an hour, so that fact that it’s grey and dull, she says is a blessing. Not a lot planned for the rest of the day, I may well just sit and read. Dave and Mrs H. Happy anniversary, enjoy the day. Back later. 7 1
AndrewC
Good morning all from the boring borough. Long weekend for me. Just returned from the nearby cafe for a full English. Need the stodge to soak up the impending beer consumption. Today is the first day of the London Craft Beer Fest. Sort of like the GBBF but without the smelly sock+sandal brigade and the 4% flat warm twig soup that usually passes for real ale at most CAMRA fests. Congrats to Dave and Mrs Dave. After 50 years, I'm sure she qualifies for parole. That's it for me. Time for the bus + DLR to the East End. I may be some time. Enjoy your weekend. 15 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 9, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Congratulations to Dave and Mrs. H. I woke up to the sound of rain at god knows what o'clock last night and promptly went back to sleep again. Its now drying up but more rain is forecast for this evening. At least its still looking pretty good for Sunday. Muggatee to be drunk, be back later. 15

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) Morning all. Happy Anniversary to Dave and Mrs H. Enjoy your celebration. it isn’t forecast to rain here until late afternoon. However there are some rather dark clouds to the west. I have been looking at the weather radar recently and it does appear that for weather from the west that the clouds often split and pass Benfleet to the north and south. My task today is to deliver Aditi and her suitcase to Enfield to stay with MiL. Aditi’s sister won’t go on holiday unless someone is with their Mum. Aditi’s sister and her husband are currently on their way to Stuttgart from where they will go to Tübingen to stay with their son. They are not confident travellers and were concerned about how to make a taxi driver understand they wanted to go to Tübingen. Aditi suggested going by the bus. I am under strict orders to otherwise rest this weekend. I have had back pain for a week , it is getting better but Aditi wants it fully recovered before we go on holiday. I have had this before and it does usually ease. I don’t think I would like this permanently as some people have to endure. Fortunately driving my car doesn’t aggravate it at all, in fact it seems to help. Perhaps I need an armchair with as many adjustable bits as the car seat has. RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 9, 2019 The pork joint is now ready to be pulled and when SWMBO gets off the infernal telling-bone we might get to the shops. It is quite windy here now, we had rain overnight and showers this morning. Last night there was some rare police activity nearby with a hovering air-beater equipped with a strong light spending some 20 minutes over one location. There seems nothing to mark that incident now. Other notable events on the calendar today include so I am quietly preparing for The Return of The Magnificent Seven from their Turkish adventure early this evening. I hope the next few days' weather doesn't impact too severely on fellow ERs whatever you may have planned and particularly to those suffering or minding sufferers, best wishes.
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted August 9, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 9, 2019 Afternoon all, And hearty congratulations to Mr & Mrs H. As ever RMweb seems to be bedevilled with idiots including one who in one sentence said there wasn't something on a track diagram that ought to be there and in the next sentence said it was there - may be he likes debating with himself? No loony cyclists have been observed today as the Good Doctor visited Tesco on our behalf and she has not reported any such on the roads. The front page of the local 'paper is all about somebody who died as a result of falling off an e-skateboard on a public road - as such things are banned on public roads and pavements (and he'd be daft to be riding one on that narrow stretch of road even if it was legal) it would seem that there are indeed Darwin Award candidates among us in this neck of the woods. BTW no one else, and no vehicles, were involved, he just fell off and banged his head. Currently we have no rain but we are promised some, along with a noisy sky plus occasional illuminations although the weather radar forecast shows that it might pass south of us along no doubt we'll still see it and hear it. In the meanwhile it's blowing up a bit rough in the Channel so hoping it's not gtoo bad for those under canvas (even if it's only an awning part of the time) down west. Have a good day one and all. 20

Ian Abel
Happy anniversary to Dave and Mrs. H POETS, good morning Quiet day yesterday, a short walk after work around the lakes here, Mrs feeling a little better, then a bite to eat at her favourite Thai place. We're supposed to take her great-nieces to a show tonight, I'm not sure it's the best idea, but somehow she sees it as a possibility - we'll review later. 14 sunny and very pleasant first thing, managing 27 for the expected high. POE if you can - enjoy the day. 17
