RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 8, 2019 Mawning friends, Weather clear, some cloud but generally sunny. After extensive G duties at the old place on Tuesday (from which I returned somewhat knackered and only just managed to summon enough energy for crib), a further day of the G word was undertaken at daughter’s place whilst they are away on holiday. Mowing wasn’t too bad after the lawns had been cleared of junk but the strimming was another issue! The petrol strimmer fuel tank filler cap was broken so fuel found its way rapidly out of the tank under the influence of gravity and the head was almost out of cord. A total lack of two-stroke fuel didn’t make it any easier. Anyway, after a delay of a couple of hours getting more fuel, visiting the nearest agricultural engineers who sell that range of power tools and servicing the strimmer, play was resumed and house and grounds look ok (to these old eyes anyway). Today sees a visit by some friends. He and I will adjourn to the golf club to see how many balls our wayward bats can disperse to pastures and waters unrecoverable whilst SWMBO and his wife test the spending limits on various pieces of plastic. When we reconvene, an early evening meal may be partaken at some hostelry. Tonight will see me doing a 2kg boned and rolled shoulder of pork to be served as pulled pork tomorrow for the returning hoards of relatives who normally reside a little way down the road. All this at least shelters me from the rising levels of idiocy that seem to be pervading and assaulting our ears from the meeja, no wonder they call it “the silly season”. It even seems to have reached the Norfolk Broads from reviewing posts on ERs. Best wishes to those struggling with issues affecting them and their loved ones. I’d rather convey warm thoughts to you than waste my time considering the antics of those determined to defy Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and those who have reached elevated positions of self-importance. Have a nice day ya-all (not to be confused with yawls found on water) and be safe!

Popular Post Coombe Barton
For further south west - it started out quite pleasant on the dog walk at 07:30 but had cooled since and drizzle has started. We've decamped to the caravan rather than sitting in the awning. Edited August 8, 2019 by Coombe Barton 2
RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2019 It's a lovely morning in the middle of the Irish Sea and forecast to stay that way until tonight. Here's hoping the seaweed druids have got that right but commiserations to those less fortunate. Off to get the bus to Peel now. Dave 17

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 8, 2019 I have returned from the Trafford Centre and the shopping has been packed away. I then went and changed into my working cloths, unblocked the bathroom sink and I’m currently sat with muggertea No2. Once that’s been finished I’m back downstairs to carry on working in the cellar. Before I went out I tested my new toy (laser level) in the cellar. When the house was built the cellar was a laundry room and floor has always had a visible slope. From the door between the 2 rooms I was able to find out just how much the slope was. From its highest point, just under the stairs to the door it drops 2”, from that point to the outside door, it drops a further 2 1/2”. I knew it was quite a drop, but I didn’t know it was so much. Muggertea No2 is now finished, back later.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Weather forecast hearabouts is dry and sunny which it is at the moment but turning wet and windy later this afternoon. 4 hours ago, sb67 said: Just seen your post. What a shame those show's have been cancelled, I always look forward to Romford and Southend Just looked on the website and couldn't see any news, is it the Shoeburyness show? Steve. It is indeed the show at Shoeburyness. The reasons given are rather vague, I have my own opinion as to what they are but I'm keeping them to myself for now. They are saying that the show will take place next year (2020) but that remains to be seen. 2 1

No warnings of storms here but we do have T*rd alerts in force, it has been heard walking around upstairs, gloom will descend on the other side of the sitting room when it arrives. At least Rachel is feeling better after a visit to the doctor yesterday. I had to depart to the shed at one point in the afternoon when his blessed phone started playing the Leeds United song at high volume. Soldering track was probably better than burying an axe in his head. I even managed to sort some track problems out. The evening went well as Beth and I escaped for respite care at some friends. Much wine was drunk and the world was temporarily put to rights. A bike ride has just been mentioned so Beth and I will be going our soon followed by some gardening where I will hack some more bush roots out of the ground. I may even retreat to the shed again this afternoon. We are off to the local market town to indulge in fish and chips tonight. Regards to all. Jamie Those two actions seem to be quite compatible, why not combine them? Hacking out the roots means you need something to fill the hole. 1

Much gnashing of teeth from local traders with Boardmasters being cancelled, luckily we very rarely have a need to visit Newquay, so it's of little personal concern. Overcast, but with the potential to be clear-skied later. Weather update from the Western approaches: The wind has picked up, there is slight mizzle in the air and the grey cloudy sky has become one uniform grey. Not quite stormy as yet, but you can tell it's on the way... 5 7
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 8, 2019 Afternoon all from a slightly cloudy but getting warmer, Charente. To lift the mood this morning I looked out of our front window. Either side of the path we used to have two large masses of tangled, briars, ivy, bindweed and some sort of bush. 2 years of hard work have revealed that they were some quite nice bushes within this. Beth and I are not natural gardeners but we hacked away all the excess and eventually revealed 2 yew trees and 4 bushes. These were all severely pruned last autumn and were still bare when we left for our holiday at the beginning of April. This is what they look like now. I am told that the bushes are Hibiscus. The Yew trees have started to grow again. The Hibiscus flowers come in 3 different colours and look spectacular along with another red bush of unknown (to me) variety. They looked lovely in the morning sun. Here are the two areas, Then the other side of the path I need to get rid of that cotoneaster and the bind weed needs keeping on top of. The flowers look lovely to me. One of the Yew's had a trunk 2" diameter with 4 ivy trunks of nearly the same diameter strangling it. Jamie

The website and Facebook page are still promoting the exhibition. The UK model shops exhibition timetable has “unforeseen circumstances “ for it and the Romford exhibition. Another Facebook exhibition post stated that the reason for the Shoeburyness cancellation was an admin error by the venue but 2020 is confirmed. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2019 Afternoon all, The rain is expected here overnight. but then the rain we had on Tuesday wasn't expected so maybe this lot won't arrive to make up for their earlier errors. Then it's promised for all day tomorrow. Hopefully it will wash away some of the halfwits currently to be found on local roads who I encountered when out to collect Mrs Stationmaster from Waitrose (the not the trainspotting branch). The big prize went to the loony female on a bicycle who is clearly in serious training for a Darwin Award event - first of all she was all over the road at some traffic lights, she then pulled out of a junction without looking whereas I'd slowed right down to make sure there was nothing coming on the road we were joining, next she rode round a blind bend on the wrong side of the road busily overtaking cars which were in any case pulling out to pass a parked van as the came out of the bend, and finally she overtook a slow moving 'bus as it approached a traffic island. Amazingly we got home without finding her crumpled remains at the roadside but no doubt if she comes off worse in a future encounter with an HGV it won't be her fault - oh yeah! Time now for sudoku I think. Having a restful day after an evening out at a local curry house last night with Mr Mayor and a couple of other Councillors - I have to say the restauramnt staff were most solicitous towards our party but none of the Councillors present has anything to do with licensing premises for anything at all (although two of them are on the Planning Committee). Enjoy the rest of your day folks.

Ozexpatriate
Rain has also reached the northern Willamette Valley. It's more like fine, invisible drizzle at the moment but the ground is wet so it may have rained a little bit harder earlier. Our unusual weather continues. Here July and August are reliably very dry and often very hot. Today should see a high of 23°C rather than normal which is something approaching 30°C at this time of year. I'm not complaining. The dampness is a big help to mitigate wildfire danger and I don't much like the heat. 15 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 8, 2019 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Still no sign of rain here yet, its possible it may veer off in another direction and we will miss the worst of it. Track night at SEERS tonight, I will have to sort out some stock to run. Thats it for now, be back later.

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 8, 2019 Newquay is a place we rarely visit these days as its just not a very pleasant place for a quiet pint. Used to visit a lot many years ago and was the first place that I took my other half away to when we used to do The Run to The Sun each year. We prefer Falmouth and Truro these days when in Kernow and will be staying in Par in the near future. Today a trip to Band Q to pick up two sets of garden chairs for mum. They don't deliver the ones mum wanted but the huge boxes only just fitted our mpv so not sure how they can sell many of them and maybe that's why they are discounted . Back to mums and put the chairs together clean ger pibd filter then home to fit more shelving into the shed. I will move the speaker tomorro. Now relaxing with a beer before meeting up with other half and an old work colleague from 10 years ago.

Ian Abel
BIN day - what a pleasure to only have about 30ft. from the garage to the street in the new place, AND with the attached garage it's a doddle Mrs still struggling with the anxiety, has a prescription she's just started so we're hopeful it'll help. Question time - for those bored enough to contemplate I, along with others (still working stiffs for the most part) will set an "Out of the Office" notice when I "am". Explaining I'll get to the emails upon my return. Q: Why do some folks set such a notice, inviting you to reach out to others for direction/answers, which you dutifully do, then PROMPTLY reply ANYWAY??? All answers are, of course, acceptable, but it just causes me to question why they bother to set the "out of the office" in the first place! 14 and lovely/sunny first thing, destined to be an exceptionally nice day with a high of only 26 and a light breeze...
