A relatively easy week at the House of Fun which has failed to deal me any real embuggerances has ended and it is now Bacon-and-Eggs o'clock.  That's a little later than traditional because I cannot be bothered to get up before 5am just to fry up.  It's cereal and toast before I leave the Hill of Strawberries in the early morning.

 

Friday Feeling was definitely in evidence today.  More than the usual number of smiles and verbal greetings were offered by the Paying Public.  The staff too seemed more relaxed and cheerful than on a typical day.  We even developed the concept of "Train Cricket" though the scoring isn't perfected yet and the umpires among us may consider that it's not cricket at all!

 

Train arrives = ball 

Train dispatched (i.e. "batted") = ball played

Dwell time up to 59 seconds = no run

Every complete minute of dwell time = 1 run

Train departing without latecomers attempting to board as it moves off = 4 runs

Train departing strikes dispatcher's bat before clearing the platform = 5 runs

Train failing to stop when scheduled (i.e. stop cancelled) = 6 runs

View of steam train blocked by other trains passing = bowled

Late-comer manages to board train by forcing the closing doors = caught

Dispatcher and driver both wave to each other = LBW

Out-of-breath customer asks why you didn't hold the train for them = Run out.

 

Stuff we do, eh?  The alternative was to become involved in the Fantasy Football which really REALLY doesn't interest me.

Afternoon all, took SWMBO to the physio this morning, after me going base over apex crossing a tattie field when trying to get prime position for photographing Tornado last night, it should have been me in with the muscle strangler, I've got Grandad Bobs disease, got a sore knee.

Mike loosing weight a our age I am told by Mr. & Mrs. Duck is a good thing I must admit loosing  a stone & 3lb I do have a bit more get up and go the new woman in my life is trimming down 

a bit so we have been lovingly encouraging each other checking the scales and measuring the waist line together. 

 

Turnstone don't they make tyres ?

Uneventful return from JFK, one of the rare ones

Met by Jemma in MSP as she'd just arrived from Seattle, so we rode home together giving the Mrs a respite from having to pick me up.

 

Mrs is having some severe anxiety at the moment, a combination of things related to the move, letting go of things, she's off to see the doc at present.

 

We'll be rolling back the pressure to continue clearing out the old place, to give her some time to relax and hopefully recover. Anxiety and also in the past depression is something not unfamiliar to her, but she hasn't had a serious episode like this in probably 20 years

 

23 and sunny first thing, headed for 30 tops.

 

Relax and enjoy the weekend - we're off to see Santana Saturday, if the Mrs feels up to it.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The car is now taxed, I did do it just over a week ago but I didn't get the notification that Tony mentioned but as it was still in July the car was still showing as taxed. Luckily later this morning the DVLA site came to life and I was able to tax the car. Not a lot else to report, be back later.

The new look terrace / patio as of this evening.  The slate slabs are a  mixture of original terrace slabs, remnants from our old extension and indoor salvage of one of our fireplaces. The builder is making a fantastic job of it.  Monday he is bringing a machine to cut some remaining slabs so they fit.

 

 

Soon, we will be able to step out onto flat ground from the dining room.

It's been pure hell at work today; up and down stairs and out to the platform to watch 3 'Specials' pass through 'there and back'! (Sorry about the shaky camera work, my right arm is not steady enough to carry a drink at the best of times, the worst shaking was when waving to the driver to acknowledge the train and was (as is usual) rewarded with a toot on the horn and a friendly wave, equally duly acknowledged!) Sometimes there were 5 of my colleagues dotted around platforms 1 & 2, including the MD!

 

First, we had the Top'n'Tailed Belmond Pullman doing its Glorious Goodwood stint from London Victoria - Hove - Chichester - (Eastleigh) - Chichester - Arun Valley - London Victoria. Unlike a few years ago, it looks like they remembered to stop at Chichester on the return rather than having to reverse at Barnham!

 

Then 73202, 'Graham Stenning' passed through on a Driver Training run from Stewarts Lane to Bognor Regis before heading back via Brighton to Three Bridges Tilgate Sidings. As you'll hear, the trainee seems to be a quick learner!

 

To crown it all, GBRf 66773 popped over from Eastleigh to Brighton for a naming ceremony (as 'Pride of GB Railfreight') coinciding with Brighton and Hove Pride weekend. I think I should have hopped over to platform 2 for a better view as South East Rail Productions' video demonstrates!

 

In summary, 6 unusual diagrams with some 4 locomotives!

Evening awl,

Just back from the MRC,  only put two coats of light blue on the inside of the lighting pelmets, chatted to a new member..  Removed some hinges and that was it. At least another coat of blue is needed..

Still limping, but managed a bit of muddling, one side of the fiddle yard is almost complete, going to need some more points for the other side, need to have a thunk about the bridge at the door, as it's a double door, a bit more than might be. No plans for tomorrow, but we tend to go out more in the week and stay at home at the weekend to dodge the crowds, anti-social,,,,,me?
