That's about what I expected. Can't complain - it could have been much longer. Aditi is hoping the doctor at the fracture clinic will swap her cast for a splint tomorrow. She will of course do what is recommended but hopes it is gone in a month when we cross the Atlantic at the end of August. There don’t seem to be any restrictions on sailing while plastered. There are for flying but even then she would probably be ok. Aditi’s uncle from California was due to visit soon prior to joining his wife on a Rhine river cruise. However this was in doubt when she was told she needed a pacemaker fitted. Then she was told it was fine to wait until they returned. Yesterday the holiday was again in doubt as Aditi’s aunt went into have some back ache checked and a tumour was found. Now waiting for biopsy results. My brothers wife returned from a holiday a couple of months ago, went to the doctor for a cough and had been in hospital since apart from a week at home last week. She has AML. The chemotherapy has worked well but the prognosis is not good. She has a choice of palliative care or bone marrow transplant. She has elected for the bone marrow option. Not all the family news is medical. One nephew dealt with the heat the other evening sitting on the beach at Brighton. His brother was in Haifa eating dinner by the Med.He was in Tel Aviv to present a paper at a conference. Something mathematical. He is the one who studies in Tubingen but is currently living in Zurich while on an internship with Google. Tony 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted July 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2019 Tomorrow sees us North of the Forth again but this time it is to attend the funeral. I would have preferred to travel up today but circumstances dictate that we do it all in one day. The service has been declared informal and dress smart/casual but colourful. At least I am saved the torture of travelling all day in a suit and black tie. 1

Tony, I am sorry to hear that. At one time adult AML diagnoses were a death sentence. There has been some success with research in medications specifically for AML conducted locally here in Oregon. That research is now under the auspices of the Knight Cancer Institute (named for it's patron, Phil Knight, a founder of Nike.) I do not know how widespread these medications have become. Of course every case is different. Best wishes for your sister in law in her fight. 7 3 1

I thought it was "the frozen Northern wastelands". I'm pretty sure a large percentage of the US population thinks that's an apt description for this area. That's assuming they can tell the difference between Idaho, Iowa and Ohio. 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted July 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2019 (edited) Evenin' each. IS scale reached 36 at 15.00 hrs but nobody has come anywhere near me to upset me. Quite amused to watch gardening going on in Mrs Next Door's (attached) garden. About twice a year after grass is at least 3ft high and shrubs have overhung my fence so much that I've hacked them off and deposited them back into her garden they get the combine harvester in. Or at least a little old man with an electric strimmer and mower who has been valiantly attacking the undergrowth for the past few days. Today he arrived at about noon and was out there in the blazing sunshine for about 3 hours and didn't seem to stop for a break, drink or anything. I suspect his name must be Mad Dog or Englishman or something similar. I on the other hand, after our Sainsbury's trip, have remained in the house drinking cool drinks (non alcoholic) and sitting with a large fan directed at me. and occasionally watching maniacs riding bikes up mountains. Decided at 17.000 hours it was time for a nice cold beer, followed by some red Aussie vino with our meal. Just having another glass of that and then I might, just might, have another cold beer...or two(ish) We did have a brief thunderstorm with hailstones whilst eating and I suddenly remembered that I'd left the car windows open. The interior of the car has now been washed. Tata for now, B. P.S. The IS has now plummeted to 30. Edited July 25, 2019 by grandadbob 2
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 25, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Took the car in this afternoon to have the ABS warning light sorted, and it was in two minutes flat. Car was plugged into a machine, a few buttons were pressed and hey presto the warning light went out. I also taxed the car for the next year from 1st. of August, only £30 for my car. Thats it for now, be back later.
RMweb Premium AndyB Posted July 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 25, 2019 Evening all. Sat in an air conditioned office for most of the day; very pleasant. Stepping out at lunchtime it was like getting off the trooping flight at Akrotiri. Now where's my jug of Brandy Sours to get the evening going!
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted July 25, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2019 Evening. Supportive rays sent to the several folk in need. The self-moderating (bet Andy Y would like that!) Fraggle Rock maintained 26c all afternoon, the highest I have seen here in our 17 years of residence. This to a Manxie is about 40c in English money! Foreguessed to be a lot cooler tomorrow - bike club morning of course, although there is to be a blood letting first at the surgery, a first for me as opposed to going to one of the hospitals here. Hopefully the needle isn't too blunt. The local cottage hospital has a butchers queue ticket machine, but even before the doors open there is a gaggle of people there, and manners go out of the window in the crush to get through first. The general hospital uses a telephone booking system, on 24 hours a day according to the website, in fact a girl answers the phone 9 - 12.30, I find....#sigh# and it takes a fortnight lead time. So hence the surgery, with a probably unqualified phlebotomist, hope they're a good shot, I have awkward deep veins. Mrs NHN is in the garden tipping the spud boxes out (good crop) while I am still out of sorts so indoors wasting my time on here. 3

I have vivid memories of a short break in a log cabin in Wales just after Beth had had an operation on her mouth, (stop siggering at the back there she could still talk). The most essential item that we packed was a small liquidiser so that everything could be served lump free with no chewing required. Meat and two veg became three lumps of different coloured thi gs on the plate. Jamie 16 1

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted July 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2019 We had some rain earlier, the temperature dropped a few degrees but it doesn’t seem cooler now. There was lightning but some distance away. The weather app seems to suggest one lot to the west missed and the eastern storm went up the coast towards Norfolk. I have finished painting the utility room. I have put most of the small appliances back but I was too hot to pack away properly. I just chucked all the dust sheets and decorating equipment (cleaned) into the garage. Last time I did the utility room I did it in a day, so either I have got slow or was affected by the heat! RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted July 25, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2019 I told Aditi about Ian's house moving injuries. She said I mustn’t undertake any more diy tasks until after we return from holiday. She doesn’t want me to have any injuries that complicate our trip now that she has a poorly arm! I wasn't sure at first as it sounded like rain but there was no sign of it until I realised that the ground (and car) were so warm that the raindrops were evaporating almost immediately. 15
