Just been watching a builders merchant delivery of timber, aggregates  and insulation (Interested as that was my former career).  Don't know what firm (no name on lorry) but I do know that if any of my former drivers had seen the antics of this guy and his Hiab they would probably  have died laughing. I think it would have been quicker to offload by hand. Like what we did in the good old days.......

Singh would tend to suggest Sikh so Aditi could have a chat in Punjabi. Aditi’s family are Hindu Punjabis but it is the same language.

And very positive thoughts in the direction of John and Sandy.  The thunder and lightning sort of passed our way last night although the playback weather radar suggests the main storm was even further south than I thought it was - must have been a humdinger although we had one overhead thunderclap here, and lots of lovely rain to help the weeds grow even taller (the stinging nettles down in the jungle are already about 8 feet tall).  I am instructed to visit Tesco for various things some of which are foodstuffs (despite being told we had stocked up for the week yesterday ) so it will be another day of dicing with loony drivers and kamikaze pedestrians shortly.

 

It is awful hot outside so apart from heading down there I shall be spending a day indoors with a cooling fan running close at hand.

I am expecting an Ashes call up on the strength of this morning's display. I was quite handy* in the Northamptonshire Alliance Premier League 20+ years ago.

 

Sorry to read of Sandy's set back - thoughts are with her and John.

 

We didn't get any thunder and lightning overnight and our kitchen cooled down from 27 last night to 26 at 6.15 this morning. According to the weather app on my phone Sidcup is currently 32, higher than LBG at 31. It's not usual that the suburbs are hotter than the centre of town.

 

I see the powers that be have decided that tomorow there will be less trains running more slowly and more crowded, just to make sure we get the full effects of the heat. Last night the train ran slowly so no breeze came in through the windows. When it picked up speed past Hither Green, the breeze was warmer than the hot air in the carriage! Still, beats the rain!

Reached 26C in the lab today, I was running 100Amps though...the men haven't looked at the A/C today like they were promising to..

I've just worked out the next two months Schedule for the major systems, One is due while I'm on Holiday, and there is no chance of doing it the week before (Next week) as I already have two major systems that week.. So they will have to do without or fill in the necessary begging forms to extend the cal..

I'm now sorting through the minor Items lists to make sure none of those turn up while away or the next three weeks ..I'll be starting cal'ing  them in the morning, sensitive to temperature stuff first, while it's cool, current shunts later..

 

The little white ventilated box out on Norwich Airport is reporting it's 31 C out there... Guess who's forgotton to leave the car windows open a bit...

 

Orders to pick up on the way home include Ice cream, I think when I get to the Tes and CO cupboard it might be bare..

Tes and Co's chilled cabinets At Stalham have plastic strips of sheet on them trying to keep them cool... Well if they park a 40 ft container alongside the Fridge /freezer radiator fans, trapping them  between two walls and the container in a U that is south facing what do they expect?

HUMP day! <phew> Finally back up and running, and working today, after "the move".

Way too much to bother posting all the details, basically was straightforward, a few hiccups - not having electricity for the fridge and most outlets in the kitchen was the big one!! We ended up running the fridge using an extension all weekend, electrician finally figured out the problem Monday after several fraught hours tracing old/bad wiring.

 

Still plenty of small boxes/misc to move (AND the entire railway!!!) but we are living at the new place which was the phase one for the past 5 days.

My office is now about 80ft from the rail line, I'll post a shot when the next train shows up - given they're only about one a day, AND, oddly there had been NONE from the time we started moving Friday until yesterday midday - I'm not sure when that'll be. Perhaps my moving here scared them off

 

Best get back to work as I'm sure the Long Island client is finally realizing I've been gone

Hottest day for a while, forecast even hotter tomorrow, and I am gloss painting for my son and partner in their ‘new’ house.  I’m guessing it’s a good while since it was last painted and it is taking some rescuing.  I don’t mind really, stick ClassicFM on and it’s quite therapeutic.  Apart from the heat.

 

I’ll try one of those fancy sign offs.

I should be painting but decided to do some filling instead. Polyfilla seems to set very quickly at the moment. The wall painting I was going to do can wait until later today when it may be a bit cooler.

It has cooled down here, a lot. Low temp last night was 12C. I might limp down to the boat and run the bilge pump to remove the rain water from last night but then again I might not.

 

If you are sufficiently bored you might take a peek at the common return thread. But be prepared to duck pdq. Lots of complete sh!te flying around

Afternoon All

 

After my brief post, I can now pay a better visit. and as usual since I last posted there has been a whole lot of water passed under the ERs bridge.  I have already commented (belatedly - sorry) on a few of the major events of the last few days.  As to the others, I have read and rated each and every post, as is my wont, and I do sincerely offer commiserations and congratulations to all who are ailing and celebrating - Rick's blue and rainbow plaque is interesting, but controversial, even in these enlightened times - each to his or her own is my viewpoint.

 

We had the mother and father of a thunderstorm last night at 2am with torrential rain, and a lot of lightning and heavy thunder - at one time it was overhead and the claps and flashes were simultaneous.  Luckily for us, Lily slept through it (wish we had), but as 30747 was not working, the loss of an hour or so of sleep was not all that drastic.

 

The saga of the chest of drawers which was being given away has finally been concluded, and it cost us about twelve quid to get it totally fettled - £9.00 for a set of handles, and £3.50 for a piece of timber to replace one which was missing, and also replaced the missing drawer runners.  We moved it upstairs, and just in time, as the space it was occupying in the garage is now being taken up by a Henchman 10' tripod ladder to enable me to cut the hedges safely (they're about 11' high at the front, and I begrudge paying out for somebody to come round and do it - this way, there is a single outlay for the ladder, and I can do the hedges any time I like in almost complete safety, as it is the most stable and steady thing I have ever stood on.

 

30747 is currently listening to The Archers, which to me is the ideal time to post.

 

Possibly back tomorrow.

Supportive thoughts to those in need.  This is indeed a supportive place.

 

No flash-bangs here, nor any rain.  A huge high temperature of....wait for it....23c.  wow Fraggle Rock bakes......the surrounding cold sea is a moderator and it seldom exceeds 25c here.

 

Little else to report, other than being totally and utterly knackered, possibly the old bod getting used to its new blood glucose allowance.  Lost almost a stone now, everyone says how much better I must feel.  If only, currently the opposite is the case.

Really hot but a little while ago I went into meltdown. Next door neighbour (attached) takes in foreign students on a regular basis. Most of the time they are well behaved. This evening, not so much. There I was sitting by the open patio doors when there was a bloody great thump on the conservatory roof. Couldn't see clearly from below apart from a couple of objects sitting there. Went upstairs and looked out of the window and it appeared to be some sort of partially wrapped food. Also on the roof of her extension were a couple of drinks containers.  

Needless to say I went next door and strong words were had. (First by me and then by her and her daughter to the students) Eventually a confession was obtained from one of the young Chinese ladies. As my neighbour is in her mid seventies I couldn't expect her to get up there (her daughter did offer) so then we had the spectacle of GDB armed with a lawn rake up a ladder retrieving the items.  ( Four spring rolls as it happens, they looked almost tasty but a couple of pigeons had inspected them and turned them down)

A major International Incident has been averted and I have now safely returned to earth and am about to pour another bottle of Doom Bar.

So...

 

I have arisen like a Phoenix from the puddle of perspiration, had a shower and am sitting outside enjoying a glass of grape sugar induced ethanol.

The water feature is making sweet music and the LED lights are starting to play their colours on various plants.

I is still pleasantly  warm.

 

 

I have just been given a list of tomorrow’s painting tasks. Bah.

I can’t afford a house with grounds and a natural waterfall.

After today’s exertions the ethanol has gone straight to my head.  Can you tell?

Thoughts are with Sandy, Aditi and others in need.

' Evening all from red dragon land.

 

Grabbing five minutes for a local update.

After several months with no trains down the Conwy Valley due to floods washing parts of the line away, I saw their return today at Betws whilst helping out on the Conwy Valley Railway (7 1/4" gauge).  It is National Eisteddfod week 2-10 August at Llanrwst.  Hopefully, we can now do our planned circular tour of Caernarfon - Welsh Highland Railway - Ffestiniog Railway - Conway Valley Line - mainline Llandudno Jn - Bangor and BUS  back to Caernarfon.

 

Time to do a bit of catching up on here.

I think I am in the same state as BoD. I think the diluting fluid has dropped straight out just leaving the ethanol behind. I was hoping to finish the utility room today but one wall remains to do. It is mainly wall units so won't take long but I was so tired I was starting to make mistakes. As I finished I said I would start dinner but Aditi said she had done it. Apparently she wrapped her cast in cling film to keep it clean. Her Californian resident uncle rang to see how she was. He was very positive about her injury. He is one of those people who has broken or worn out nearly every bone and joint.

I was looking at a thread where a guy had chopped bits off O Gauge Peco Setrack points to narrow the track centres - and can I find it now?  Bah.  The search function is useless..... anyone any idea of its title please?

After reading all these sorry tales abut the current heat wave, possibly an investment in a house A/C would be an idea, especially as 'they' say it will get worse over the years.  I remember when it first appeared in cars in the UK and for a while all I heard from friends back home was " we don't need it over here"!  No doubt there are few without it nowadays.
