I'd rather hoped that I'd get some thanks. Quite the opposite and tonight I copped for both barrels. Seems nothing is good enough unless it involved a return home. Meanwhile other visitors get the all "sweetness and light" version. That's a shame but a stroke sometimes affects the personality. At least you know you are doing the right thing despite the lack of appreciation. 20

Re my opening remark, on a serious note, yes, I do still feel quite on edge, and every so often, a sudden bout of anger at these pre-pond lifeforms stops me dead in my tracks. There certainly is a fair amount of incredulity involved at how low some not-quite-human subjects can go. It’s difficult to put in words at this time, especially that given my usually peaceful mindset, I do feel quite overwhelmed by such emotions. I think I’ll call it a night now. I seem to need a lot of rest at the moment... Be safe, folks. Thinking of everyone under the weather for whatever reasons...

Before that though this week sees a reunion of the RAF unit I worked in. 25 years since we were put out to grass. Tell me about it! FiL went through the same situation, ordinarily a nice gent but the most uncooperative individual in later years. His wife and family put up with a lot but couldn't cope in the end and he ended up in a care home which in spite of insurance and Medicaid was not of the best. This is before she handed in her driving licence. She lives in a flat with basement parking. She had two places but other people’s stuff had spread into both her spaces, including a pair of garage doors someone was “looking after”. There was a chap who purely self appointed considered himself “boss of the garage”. I explained that all the crap was where I wanted to put a storage cabinet for MiLs walking frame and other mobility stuff. He said he would get it sorted. I reminded him that MiL had been politely asking for a while. I then told him not to worry as I would bring the Land Rover down and move it for him. Apparently this did the trick. I didn’t think I was at all threatening. I don’t think I meant to be. I am quite nice. Apparently he wasn’t used to being spoken to “like that”. Tony When we lived in California and our house was still under construction our neighbor was in the habit of parking his car across the road from our driveway. It was a very narrow road too and he continued parking there even after we moved in. One day I asked him if he'd seen my wife reversing. He said he had not. I told him I thought that was the case because if he had he wouldn't park there. That did the trick. 11 3

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted July 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 8, 2019 Evening all, well yesterday's standing around put the tin hat on ly weekend leaving me totally k-nackered on top of Saturday's exertions so i retired to bed well before 22.00 and didn't get up until 09.00 (or thereabouts) today. And felt somewhat refreshed for it so did some G word activity before a Tesco visit and then sauteeing my mushroom lunch. This afternoon was mainly catching up on yesterday's sudoku plus a minor dabble through some bits of RMweb and dealing with a question of signalling on a 4mm scale Cornish branchline. Strange coincidence there as two of us have been going over the signalling by email and another was invited to join us yesterday - only to mention where he had worked at which point we stated that the other two of us had also worked for the same company although probably at slightly different times. Two of us were definitely at different times as we were both in the signal engineering part of the company and hadn't previously come across each other while the other one was involved in rolling stock although I also did some ISA (Independent Safety Assessment) work with some members of the rolling stock team - but not him. Small world once again and odd how these things come up. Mind you there are three other members of RMweb (that I know of) who at some time or other worked for me back in BR days while there's another who I didn't give a job to (but set him off on a major career change instead which has worked out well for him) - small world yet again. Enjoy the rest of your evening/day. 19

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 8, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. I spoke too soon, the van is back again but at least theres no sign of the car that parks on the pavement opposite my drive. I do know that complaints have been made about it and one chap was taking pics of it so hopefully the authorities will be coming down on the driver. At the weekend I purchased a strange 009 wagon. Its basically a garden shed and a large barrel mounted on a wagon chassis so presumably it was some sort of water carrier. The strange bit is that the end of the barrel has a small window installed complete with shutters. Its not a home made concoction as the inner packaging is shed/barrel shaped. It is made by Lilliput and the end is marked Fasslwagen Steyrtalbahn, epoch V. I googled Fasslwagen and it is a tank wagon.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted July 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 8, 2019 Good evening everyone I’ve been outside for most of the day, the weather stayed dull although it was quite warm. I managed to get the patio finished so in a few days time, once the mortar has had a chance to set, I’ll give it another blast with the pressure washer and barring and dislodged mortar that’s it. I can start to put back the garden furniture and clear the path ready for lifting and dumping. This morning I also measured up for what is required for the new path, so an order will be placed just before work starts on lifting the old path. Just as we were finishing tea Sheila noticed it was starting to rain, but it wasn’t heavy and it didn’t last, but it continued on and off for most of the evening, but set in properly just after I got back home from swimming. After tea and a brief rest, I set off for Salford Quays for another swim, I was a little slower tonight, completing a mile in 42 minutes. Once home I poured myself a bottle of Trooper. Some good news about Deb’s, thanks John for the updates. Goodnight all

Robert
Morning All, It is a nice bright morning, but somewhat chilly today. Only 9°C which is a bit of a shock to the system considering it's July! Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all My audience with Sister Diabetes yesterday was interesting. She took my blood pressure twice in the hope that the second reading would be lower than the first, which it was, but I waited in vain for acknowledgement of my weight loss. Perhaps she has not been on the “how to encourage the victims” course yet. Apparently I need to have my toenails cut properly, by a professional practitioner with an approved implement. When she examined my feet the new boots came up in conversation. In her view the trainers that I was wearing are much more suitable for marching in. Maybe they are but there is a principle at stake here. It might have been more sensible if I had ordered size 13 instead of size 12. Sadly the Doc Martens webshite now offers nothing more accommodating than size 11. This is before one considers the rigmarole of sending back the ones I have and the business of claiming a refund. Desperate situations call for desperate remedies and I resorted to YouTube. There I found instructions on how to wield a hairdryer on unyielding shoe leather. So far, so good, but there is more of this to be done before the boots and I set off for Bristol on Friday. I wasn’t sure how to react to something else that she said, which was that I ought to go to a Pride with someone. Having brooded about it for far too long I say this. In principle it’s a good idea and doubtless meant kindly but it is also a sore point. The fact is that I am not one of those fortunate souls who has a pool of companions for every occasion and I get very envious of those who are. Best wishes to all Chris

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted July 9, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 9, 2019 Morning all from a nice and sunny Charente. Things may be looking up regarding No 2 son (Paul). He has been in touch with his sister Rachel and had a long chat. She and the friends that we are in touch with are working on getting him to contact us and also to get him over to France for a short break. He sounds to be managing his condition very well and apparently the stoma is planned to be a temporary one. As a result we feel a lot more at ease. Thanks for the marvellous amount of support. Various tasks are being thought about this morning. I have one or two small jobs to do in the spare bedroom and need to take another few mm off the door. I may well investigate a tap at the end of the path that leads to the house. It is capped off but has a valve on it so may be an easy place to put a standpipe for a hosepipe. Apart from that we are progressing with planning for an small extension that will add an en suite to our bedroom. I went to see the mayor yesterday and she assured me that as long as I fill in some paperwork, that she gave me, planning permission is granted. A builder has given us a very good quote so it looks like we will be able to get it built in September. Thoughts are with AndrewC, it can't be easy for you. Chrisf, I hope the boots respond to treatment. As to the rather worrying outbreak of affection for the railway that had green locos with extra bits of copper, I feel that a mass inoculation is needed to build up herd immunity.
