Afternoon/Evening All Well that was a really long session of paperwork, as we had some legal documents to scrutinise which took literally ages - and what with the usual bank statement, and credit card bills. Also discovered that one of our Building Society books which normally lives with our bank papers in our filing tin is not there, and has probably been filed away by mistake when we did the year end filing in January - it is by no means our main account, in fact, it has next to nothing in it, but it does mean a trip to the Building Society tomorrow to do whatever is necessary to get a new one. I will possibly be back tomorrow, but then I will be having a few days off of RMWeb for personal reasons, and will be back online here next weekend. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2019 Evening all, Fathers' (or Father's) Day Report Part 1 -- the non-illustrated part. I was duly breakfasted at Wuthering Spoons - finding their sausages had improved but their bacon hadn't although the black pudding was pretty good and the fried eggs were spot on, duly appreciated. After getting some shopping out of the way I joined his ladship at the GCR where many signal levers were pulled and replaced - a day of considerable enjoyment and a great variety of small trains to watch most of which were propelled by the product of heating water by means of a coal fire in specialised containers known as boilers (for the heating bit) and a firebox - for the coal fire. Lovely variety of engines to see and hear plus a few electrically powered diseasal outline thingies. Roast lamb for dinner this evening - smelling very tasty already. Some puffing engine pics will follow once they're downloaded. 19
RMweb Premium AndyB Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 16, 2019 Evening all, and happy Father's Day to those who fall into this category. Woke up at 5:30 as usual but fell asleep again till about 09:00, at which point I was offered cards and presents. Now have some modelling tokens once I've figured out what might be needed next. Spent some of the day writing up a layout thread as a precursor to demolition. Nuff said as I want to avoid an awl-ful eyeful as she is probably lurking! Regards to one and all. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2019 SWMBO returned from woolly Worstead just before 18:00, she can hardly move her left arm/ hand. This is part of the reason she can't work, she will be unable to do much for several days. She had put herself down for just one session, but got leant on to do more. Driving back for her was difficult, especially having to do extra gear changes due to a blue light police car, and a child cycling towards her on the wrong side of the road, requiring a rapid if not emergency stop. We've had several short but heavy showers this afternoon. Time to. Go do dinner...
RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2019 Good evening - hoping all fathers had a good day. It was so wet this morning that I dint dare venture up a ladder to drill the hole in the soffit board for the new shed power cable. However it did stop raining that late afternoon I managed to get the ladder set up and cable into the loft. A lot of boxes from the loft are now in the car for the recycling tomorrow. plenty more boxes were moved to allow me to pull the cable through the loft and then push it down the bathroom duct. cable now pulled through the duct and into the garage ready for when the electrician can connect it up to the new consumer unit and then power up the shed. Cladding ordered so I should also be able to get on and clad the exterior walls starting this week. Would be nice to complete this before we fly across the pond in a few weeks time. other half has to do battle on the great White Worms for the first time in nearly a week. Worn out now and having a Tiny Rebel Stay Puft 16

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 16, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. I'm with John on the tendency for supermarkets to add chilli and other hot spices to meals, totally ruins the food IMHO. On the subject of sell by dates I have some bottles of Belgian Trappist beer that 'expired' 12 years ago, I drank one last Christmas and nothing untoward happened and I've still got about ten Christmas's to go. 11

Pleasant if some what damp day, I got a new Leicester Tigers shirt and a hot/cold mug, looks the business, just need the team to do the same next year lol. High hopes that the postie will bring goodies tomorrow, that's assuming they are not stuck on an ark somewhere damper than we have. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2019 Father's Day report Part 2. (well it the day for this father) So a day at the GCR - of the Great Cockcrow variety as far as the GC is concerned and first off we see some of today's engines being prep'd and steamed. Very nice even if it is 7.25 " gauge - an 8F, 47XX, Scot and a Brit Alas not being steamed was this delectable North Eastern R1 4704 being attached to its train at the main terminus Hardwick A quickly snatch view of the Black 5 arriving at the 'country terminus' Cockcrow Hill His ladship setting the road for a train to run into one of the terminal platforms at Cockcrow Hill - these are the largest levers in any signal box on the railway although still 100% power operation. This frame once graced waterloo Signal Box on 'The Drain' And an SR Q arriving with a terminating train - these simply run round and return to hardwick, there is no way off the station. The Q has turned and is running round heading for the head shunt to reverse back onto its train run round ready to rejoin its train while 4704 departs from the other terminal platform.
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2019 Good evening everyone Weather wise, it’s been a bit of a funny old day. Lovely sunshine first thing, so I chanced it and put my wetsuit out on the line again to dry. However, when I came in for dinner, I spotted a few grey clouds above, so I decided to put it in the workshop just in case. I’m glad I did, as just like yesterday, it chucked it down whilst we were eating dinner. When I went back after dinner the sun was down it once again, so out the wetsuit went back on the line. By the time I’d finished for the day, it was dry, ready for tomorrow night. After my post this morning, I carried on from yesterday and finished off the missing steps to the loco. When I’d finished fabricating these, I soldered them onto the loco body itself, fitted the top to the chassis and gave it a run to make sure the front pair didn’t foul anything, as these are very close to the valve gear indeed, all worked well. After dinner I decided to have a look at my static grass applicator. I wasn’t particularly happy with the ‘on’ button, so I took it apart to see if I could improve it. The button itself is very slim and all the ones I’ve got in stock were too big, so I ended up gluing a couple of round discs to the top of the button, which now makes it easier to operate. It also has an LED which lights up when the button is pressed, but the hole was too small and you could hardly see it, when it’s lit. So I opened up the hole, pushed the LED through, it can now be seen more easily when illuminated. Later this evening I spent an hour or so chatting to my brother in Canada. As is the norm during our chats, we talked about everything and anything, but we definitely didn’t save the world. But he did inform me that they are going to see the Rolling Stones play at Burl’s Creek at the end of the month. It’s about a 2 1/2 hour drive each way so they’re driving there early on the Saturday, the day of the concert, staying for a couple of nights and then driving back on the Monday. I hope they enjoy it. Goodnight all 19
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted June 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 16, 2019 Work was worked. The phone was relatively quiet so much "proper" work was done. It did persist down during the day and there may be a problem with one of the external door's water resistance qualities as a pool of water was observed on the floor afterwards. There will be more investigation on the morrow. Homeward and much tidying up at Chez NB has been going on over the past couple of weeks - and there is still much more to do - in preparation of a possible future event. If the event doesn't happen, then nothing will be lost as it's about time we cleared out 30 year's worth of cr@p................. Junior NB dutifully fulfilled her role today by presenting me with a large bottle of vodka. A small amount has already been consumed. And finally some mudelling was accomplished whilst partaking of the above beverage. All in all, a good day. Have a good week folks. Cheers, Mick

Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all Lunch was late yesterday – nearly 6 pm. This was not because of indolence on my part but because I discovered, just in time to get to the multiplex for the first screening of the afternoon, that “Rocket Man” was on. What an excellent film it is! If there is any justice at all Taron Egerton deserves an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Elton John. To my shame I did not recognise Jamie Bell, who plays Bernie Taupin and was Billy Elliott a long, long time ago. There are many worse ways of spending a Sunday afternoon than watching that film. Before setting off for the picture house I immersed myself for a couple of hours in working on the short break in Prague later in the year which Bill Bishop and I have been planning. Back in November, over a pint in the ‘Spoons in Surbiton, we discovered that we were planning the same thing so we decided to join forces. Neither of us is particularly keen on flying and I have been even less amenable to it since I came back from down under with the lurgi which I blame on one of the three overnight flights to which I was subjected. Instead we are looking forward to exploring some interesting opportunities for rail travel. Back down to earth, there is ironing to be done. It’s my own silly fault for keeping up to date with the laundry. I also need to collect the latest batch of chemical warfare – medication! - from the pharmacy and pay for my weekly donation to charity, otherwise known as the lottery tickets. He who expects nothing, etc … By the way, the steak was considerably better than I had feared. Best wishes to all Chris
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted June 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 17, 2019 Good morning from somewhere where the sun is shining, indeed it shone for much of yesterday and helped to dry the washing. The downside of that is that there is a large pile of ironing that awaits my attention. Up early today as the roofer is due to arrive about 08.00. I will be interested in how he explains to me that a newly fitted roof managed t lose 30 tiles less than a years after he did the work. I do not expect a bill be the remedial work. A minor miracle occurred yesterday, all THREE of the children remembered that they had a father. I always here from Rachel, Martin sometimes gets in touch but he middle one, Paul, is often conspicuous by his absence. It was great to hear from them all. 2 cards, a text, a CD and a voucher. To make it better I even managed some modelling, which is reported on in the layout thread. Much to do today, the Volvo obviously needs a new battery and there are some letters to pick up from the post office. I also need to make a phone call to book Beth's Clio in for it's first annual service. Phone calls really test my language skills. 9 hours ago, Coombe Barton said: https://johncolby.wordpress.com/2019/06/16/sandys-treatment-day-180/ I also find the obsession with chilli difficult. Beth can't tolerate it and many chef's seem to think that it is the answer to everything. We had a lot of problems with food labelling in the US and on the ship. 8 hours ago, pH said: I find your optimism very touching! Several years after the last of our three sons left home, we have a room, two closets and parts of another two closets containing "stuff" belonging to all three. We had a drastic solution. Sold the house and told them to clear their stuff out, then moved abroad. Anyway, breakfast now awaits and I can continue to watch the several families of sparrows that have colonised the top of the pylon on the other side of the garden. We fist noticed a nest yesterday morning and last night realised that there were t least four in the various channel girders that hold the crossbars on. One of the Hoopoe's appears to have photobombed the shot but several of the parents can be seen here. The photo was taken 5 minutes ago. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted June 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 17, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, A three piece sleep last night total about 6 hours not too bad, but why is it you are at your most comfortable when you HAVE to get up? Cloudless sky this morning, and Ben the Border Collie seemed Especially happy on his patrol. I've been considering my next purchase for finishing the boat, I get all my fibreglass materials from CFS in Redruth, they have a very good delivery time and are cheap... I couldn't order yesterday or before 18:00 today in case it turns up tomorrow when SWMBO is out. I do need some new bonding paste, fibreglass tape and white topcoat. Time to check the company spam, before wandering down to the lab..
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted June 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 17, 2019 Ey up! Not raining yet up here in the North West Leeds Highlands. Even got some bits of blue sky showing Overhead. Parcels to prepare and post first thing then umpiring later. Not sure that umpiring will occur as it is scheduled to rain when we are due to start. Why "skinless mice"? Well they use skinned "plum" tomatoes as the main ingredient in tinned tomatoes. They have a similar shape to a mouse...hence "skinless mice" and should form part of a decent breakfast. Grilled or fried tomatoes can be a bit of a disaster. Chillies are seen by some as being very good for you (puri puri onesie particular). To me they should be used as required but modern TV chefs seem to chuck them into food ( along with copious amounts of salt). Have a great day and TTFN Baz
