Topped out at 33C on our deck today. Slightly toasty but it's cooling off now. I can see some "thunder pumpers" popping up. We might be in for a bit of son et lumière later.

 

The good news is I "fixed" the ceiling fan in the bedroom. It mysteriously conked-out the other day but before I tore into it I thought I might as well replace the PP3 in the remote control. That turned out to be the problem.

 

Oh, and our correspondent from Minnesota (and frequent hostage in NY) might be interested to know UP is taking Big Boy for a jaunt to Duluth.

We got the motorhome out of servicing today -- annual oil change, etc. They tightened up the mounts on the exhaust. On the way home the tailpipe fell off. Took it back; the mechanic said that he'd had some concerns but we picked it up while he was out. They'll fix it for no charge (!) but will take time to get a new piece made. We picked up the bit that fell off -- who needs a couple of feet of 4" dia steel pipe?

The battery problem was, apparently, a corroded knife switch.

We had the oil changed about a year ago but we've done less than 5 full days driving since. Something about time-expired oil.

 

New Kitchener streetcar line has had its 3rd accident and they aren't open yet. This one was some SUV making an illegal U-turn in front of it.

Good morning one and all

 

I checked my strawberry crop yesterday morning.  To my delight more than 20 berries were ready to harvest.  Unfortunately that was most of the crop!  They will be sprinkled with caster sugar and devoured at an opportune moment.  I am thankful that there were any to harvest at all given the devastation that clearing the triffids caused.  There is more to come when some more weeds are taken out, since it appears impossible to remove them without carnage to the strawberry plants.  I feel a certain satisfaction at being a hunter-gatherer.

 

Today I meet LGBT comrades in two settings and contexts.   The first brief encounter is in a High Street coffee bar this afternoon, as is the case once a month.  The second is in a pub long favoured by the gay community.  It’s a good 30 years or more since I was last in there.   As well as being in unfamiliar surroundings I will be under pressure to take part in an unfamiliar activity – no, not that but karaoke.  I used to sing in folk clubs but stopped out of consideration for those who had paid to come in.  I know what song I would like to sing if I’m up to it.  By all means let your imaginations run riot but I’m not telling.  Neither you nor I know what will happen as the evening progresses.

Yesterday evening saw a (very)few late rays of sun but now June is bursting out all over........ again.  I don’t think this is the sort of bursting out they had in mind in the song though.

Mooring Again, Inner Temple Hare,

Fire successfully stoked although it took some doing as it was almost out.

 

A very poor nights sleep, 3.5 hours solid, 3 hours intermittant wake up and turnovers..

 

On the way in, very strange, several cars doing 10 to 15 MPH under the limit, they weren't together, I even overtook.... A Black Audi.  Further on after passing lots of poppies that seem to be doing well in the rain, I saw something else in the hedgerow... also red-ish-- A Renault... with a police aware sticker on it.. it had come off on a long right hand bend that you can do the limit on even if it's wet (although that would not be adviseable due to poor sight lines). someone was not paying attention..

 

The trip to the big orange shed yesterday was partly unsuccessfull, they've broken their cutting machine, and I wasn't going to wrestle 3 full sheets of ply onto the roof of the landrover in the rain and wind. So no ply, I also forgot the wood treatment for all those cut ends. So another trip but in the car is needed on the way home tonight, If they've fixed the machine I can get the cut ply I need into the car.

 

Todays work. starting a major unit that has been converted to do both the old product and the new product, having been taken apart to fit a board which, extends it's frequency range. Any result could have changed from before so I have to remeasure any changes, just to see if the first measurement was corrrect. This wasn't meant to be started till Monday, So I have given myself more time.

 

Time to.. work out my shopping list as I've just remembered something else..

Council for the defence: "the streetcar failed to swerve out of the way".  Actually used in the early days of Croydon Tramlink.

Morni g all from the cliff tops of Dorset.  Beth and I went for a walk rou d town yesterday and then caused much amusement to passers by sitting eating ice creams near the pier in the rain. A bit of shoppi g in the afternoon then a good meal out.

 

Today will be some final shopping then car packi g before setting off to Pompey.

Last night's meal out was a great success and enjoyed by all except my wallet. Considering the various types of falling down water I consumed it is nothing short of a miracle that I didn't......fall down.

Today The Boss is going to Nicki's to assist with the preparations for Gemma's birthday party tomorrow. I will be staying in awaiting the possible delivery of a parcel containing a blue plastic and metal thingy with 4 wheels and maybe venturing to the shed. 

Later this afternoon I'm off to the Doc to have The Knee looked at.

Good morning everyone 

 

Guess what, it’s raining again, who’d have thunk it?

 

As it’s a Friday I’ll shortly be setting off to the Trafford Centre, but today I’ll go via the big orange DIY shed and Asda and finally calling at the butchers on my way back to pick up the weekly meat rations and hopefully a pastie for my dinner. Later we have Mike and Sarah calling round and they will be treating us to an Indian takeaway!

 

Not much else planned for the rest of the day, but that may well change.

Thanks for the concern Oz. The practice nurses say that until the infection is sorted out and all the gungy mess removed (sorry for using these complex medical terms) the podiatrist can't do anything. If there's no improvement by the time the present course of antiwhatsits is finished, though, I'll start demanding to see a doctor. The biggest problems are trying to keep the dressing dry when taking a shower (SWMBO thinks the sight of me with a plastic bag and elastic band on my leg is comical) and only having one pair of shoes that can accommodate the Colonel Blimp type dressing comfortably (sort of).

 

There are a number of folk that inhabit these pages far worse off than me though so I'll stop whingeing. Not only that but tomorrow I'm going to the S7 Group AGM where I'm meeting Crimson Rambler, who is coming to stay for the weekend and we'll be spending some quality muddling time in the workshop so the horizon has a bright edge (not literally though - it's raining again).

Sunneeeee...but do not get too excited the sky is shades of grey.  Fingers crossed the r**n will stay away and I can get down to the garden to finish-ish a small project before the dry stone waller comes  at the end of the month to do an adjacent project.  Nothing spectacular, just to do something with a pile of ex-stone kitchen/bathroom extension blocks of granite and rubble.  I have visions of them ending up over some irises I rescued from the sandy soil and salty conditions at West Shore.

Morning all, well we did have that large round bright object in the sky for an hour or two, but true to form it is now under a duvet of grey stuff, we only had 10 degrees inside the greenhouse yesterday, but hopefully won't need the fire lit today. Now waiting on some deliveries from the postie, so I can press on inside TOSH and lay some bits of steel, also got the soldering iron on standby to connect some droppers and serious mod*lling might commence.

Morning all.

I think a cloud must have moved as we are now having a sunny spell.

 I was woken this morning by Aditi with “the printer is offline”, “Yes,  before you ask, I have turned it off and on again” , “and the pc too”. Fortunately, whatever I did, sorted it out. 

I may go out to the garage and continue moving some bits around. I have a turntable that was in an awkward place. It was installed on its own board so it shouldn’t be difficult (I hope!).

Dave, and your toe. You mention seeing a doctor. Matthew once hit his thumb very hard with a hammer in a technology (electronics) lesson. The school nurse cleaned it and dressed it but suggested he might like to go to the doctors. Our GP surgery was closed for training that day so we had to go to the deputising service on Canvey. The doctor there said go to A&E as he could lose the hand otherwise. I had to reassure a 12 year old the doctor was odd to say the least. Then he saw the A&E doctor who also seemed odd. Matthew had to carefully explain it was his right thumb as he was left handed! Anyway we ended up with the nurses who dealt with it. The older one said her Mum would have slapped a bread poultice on such an injury.

I've gone as far as I can with the rebuilt major system, I'm waiting for the new interconnection lead they are making.

Dad is being released from Hospital tomorrow, providing He stays stable on his new drugs regime..

Just back from the GP surgery. They phoned to say they had a blood test form for me to be done within 2 weeks.  Fortunately there was an appointment at the nearest blood clinic for Tuesday. That is our wedding anniversary, not sure if it is a syringe anniversary. According to the interweb an appropriate gift for 42 years is “real estate”. I don’t think we will be bothering any estate agents.

KZ has got grandchild’s to school, emptied daughter’s fridge of seriously out-of-date foodstuffs, rescued some pork ribs from her freezers to feed the little lions upon later and

 

SWMBO’s youngest nephew just rocked up in his camper van bearing a bottle of Dalwhinnie Winter’s Gold. Now, unaccustomed as I am to lunchtime drinking, I felt it would be rather rude to refuse his offering and can report it to be of very satisfactory nature without any dilution. Were it not for the return of the lion cubs in a short while, I might have given the back of the eyelids an inspection.

 

onwards and upwards, or perhaps more sideways in my case!
