Having attacked the front hedge (using an electric hedge cutter), then shredding the cuttings, doing other garden tasks then a couple of hours at Headingley was called for. It was flipping freezing! Made and ate tea then off to the Railway Club..after an hour my head and body said Enough" so I came home. I now need some eyelid inspection.

Back in the late 70s, this fine book was produced and I was given a copy. However, as I am (still) in the process of moving house, my copy is buried in a box deep in the rooms of boxes.

 

I recall that there is a section devoted to the development of the model gauges, starting at Gauge 1 and descending via 0 to H0 etc.

 

I am looking for a scan of this part of the book for reference in my article and will duly credit you (by full name, not RMWeb handle) as well as the book.

 

My deadline is 21st June!

I have a copy but it's slightly too large for the scanner; I could scan the pages in halves if that would do.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had a parcel arrive this morning when I was out and I received the usual card from the postman. As the local sorting office is open late Wednesday evenings I took a chance and called in on my way to the model railway club, and it was ready for collection. Well done Royal Mail.

Good eve ing from the village just north of Ikea.  To Lincoln we have been, and returned. A good evening was had with Marti, Katie and young Ryan.  Beth drove down and it was just as well.  Half way there I got a phone call from the daughter of a good friend to say that her father had died of a heart attack this afternoon.  I only visited them on Monday. It was rather a shock.  Mel and I were interviewed for the police on the same day, joined up on the same day and had consecutive collar numberd.  He was not only a good friend and colleague but also a modeller. He has even been away with the layout several times.He had only become a grandad 12 weeks ago and I went over to see him and met all the family on Monday. It's left me rather shocked.  Fortunately I was able to make some phone calls and got Barbara(his widow) in touch with the retired Police Oficers Association, who will be able to suppirt and guide them.  I will probably bob over in the morning.

Good evening everyone

 

The rain that was threatened this morning, never actually materialised, but it did stay dull until just before dusk, when the sun shone for a few minutes. 

 

This morning I made great progress has been in the cellar. I managed to fit the plasterboard to both end walls, under the stairs and a start was made on the final wall too. I only have 3 pieces left to fit and one of those isn’t full width, but I do have to make a cut out for the light switch though. Hopefully I’ll get it all done tomorrow and then it will be down to Ian to come and do the plastering for me. 

 

The kids arrived just after 3:30 and after a drink and a biscuit, Ava went into the front room with Sheila to read, whilst Evie and Max stayed in the kitchen with paper and coloured pencils and drew. I stayed in there with them and carried on with the preparation of the chicken and all the vegetables for tea. Which went down very well, we also finished off the cheesecake from yesterday and Ava has asked me to make it again for next week.

Jamie, I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.  This would come as a great shock. We all take comfort in the small things where we can and I imagine that looking back you will find some comfort knowing you had the opportunity to see him one last time and not been far away and helpless when the news reached you. I'm sure his family will appreciate any help you provide as they start to process their grief.

Been hit last Saturday by the death (suicide) of the ex boyfriend of my wifes youngest daughter.  He had visited us in the UK with Pat's daughter & grandson back in 2008 and soon after they split up.  He was a barman in one of the bars we used in Pat's hometown in Belgium and we had many a good laugh together.  He even called Pat his MiL.  He was just 39 and separated with a young daughter.  It's the 3rd surprising death we have been told of this year and has been quite hard to take.

4' 33"  (I always read as four feet thirty-three inches).  I looked at the score in a music school shop a few years ago.  When we were  helping the symphony, I had thought that for their Y2K concert The 20th Century - Good Riddance I could score it for full orchestra and a very energetic conductor.

 

We were supposed to go to the Wedneday Night Water Boilers steam-up at Formby Gorge (sic) to-day, but about lunch time it began to pour down. We'll try again tomorrow.

We have a significantly cooler morning today - which I am definitely not complaining about!  Despite the fact that it almost feels autumnal.  There was quite a storm overnight again - this time with lots of flashing, banging, and wind but little rain.  However, it has cleared the air.

Good morning one and all, with condolences to Jamie for the loss of his friend and Lightengine for his bad news.

 

One of my many faults is that I am too easily distracted.  What became of my intention to do some work on the trip to Prague and Berlin that Bill and I will be undertaking?  Nowt.  At least I got the meeting report done though.  I also found the three mistakes in the analysis of the bank statement but how long did I spend on it?  Too long!  The local LGBT group let it slip that our next pub night coincides with a karaoke session.  This set me thinking.  The chances of the karaoke machine having a backing track for "Be The Man" are zero, as are the chances of being allowed to sing it unaccompanied.   What to sing instead?  Aha! - no, not the Norwegian boy band whose "Take On Me" has stratospherically high top notes and I don't fancy rupturing myself just to show off in a pub.  Another song came to mind.  Can I match Freddie Mercury's top notes?  I've googled the words and printed them out so at least I can practice in private.  If you guess correctly which song I have chosen, will I tell you?   Will I have the bottle to do it when the chips are down?  We shall see.

 

Today I will have another go at doing what I should have done yesterday, distractions permitting.  Checking that I have sufficient milk, bread and other commodities would not be a bad idea but if they need replenishing, tomorrow would be a better day.  Now procrastination is something I can do immediately.

Was he not operating at Lancaster?  My sincere condolences to you on the loss of your friend, and to his family, of course.

Thanks Stewart, yes indeed he was operating at Lancaster and at Ally Pally and Warley.  He also came over to France with me when the layout came out there in January 2018.  A good modeller. He built an Ex Janick coach for me and a 1F.

Fodder run this morning, and I go straight off from taking 30747 to work, and Lily needs a walkie before that, so I'd better leave it there for now.

Good morning from a sunny Surrey.

 

Been a busy week so far. Yesterday after repairing my Broadway Limited Union pacific Monutain (LED headlight required replacing and various missing handrails refabricating, off to get a quote for the dent in the side of our 24 year old car then to Mums ot empty a 850kg bag of sand into her old sunken garden. This will become lawn once the topsoil is added. Other half was late leaving work then late trains made her even later so picked her up at Whyteleafe station then stright to pub for a meal with Mum who turned 87 and shes still doing gardening most days.

 

Today I may fit a sound decoder ot one of my locos whilst waiting the delivery of the sheets for lining the inside of the shed. Just hope it isnt rianing by then.

 

Also I need ot do a little bit of work on the Czech TT scale layout as it is out at the St Neots club show. They are laying on extra security after what happened to their layouts and stock a few weeks back. Depsite the huge maount raised which no doubt they will recive osme compensation it doesnt replace many years of personal modelling.
