RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted June 5, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 5, 2019 Minor detour to work today to avoid traffic on the back lanes attending a local farming event - called "North Sheep"...………... (Hmmmm - that sounds like it could be a good name for a layout) It's being held in a series of marquees constructed on farmland in Rathmell Bottoms. (Readers who have noted my past references to RB will be aware that it is well known for flooding...……..) It has been reasonably dry for a few weeks, but in keeping with any show that requires fields for parking, it absolutely chucked it darn yesterday with lots of standing water on the roads nearby. There appear to be a number of tractors on standby for rescuing vehicles from the fields that will have become a bit less car parking friendly overnight...………….. I will avoid the area on my homeward commute tonight. Have a good HUMP day folks. Cheers, Mick
lightengine
Nice sunnyish day here in sunny Teignmouth. I'm off to lie down in a dark room. Just read Modbury and how Ian made a smoke box door dart in 2mm. What precision modelling. 14 1
RMweb Gold 81C Posted June 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 5, 2019 Morning All Bright with a layer of thin cloud here at the moment. Her has gone out so peace prevails saying that I did get a scowl form Her and we did watch the Trump interview on one of those naff breakfast shows in silence. Nothing planned yet unless the car comes back early afternoon. I will have a peek at the DJM thread then wander through the gold lounge. Better get a move on or nothing will be done today enjoy yours. A.S.Louch
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 5, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 5, 2019 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I have just heard that the D-Day flypast has been delayed by an hour or more. I have decided therefore not to go and watch it. Probably get a lot better view on the news this evening anyway. 13
RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted June 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) Afternoon all. I'm sitting twiddling my thumbs waiting for a phone call as car is in for service and M.O.T. The M.O.T. was booked for 10:30 so it looks like, hopefully, it's a no news is good news situation. Just sitting here is dangerous, I've already ordered an Alpha mimic from DCC concepts and am browsing other 'things'. I could go and play trains I suppose. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted June 5, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) We have a man bolting the air ducting through to supports they put in the roof space yesterday. Meanwhile we have a section of ceiling covered in plastic Sheeting.. Because a man fell off the ladder yesterday and grabbed the only thing around, the ceiling, and pulled a section down.. oh once up there all suited and booted they found the asbestos level so low it was almost off the bottom of the sacle.. I could have told them that, we had cementatious asbestos sheeting the sheets of which were taken off whole, when they replaced the roof. that stuff is almost totally safe unless you saw it or grind it up. I hope that there were no Welshmen in wellies around. Yes Rathmell Bottoms. Allegedly the most valuable farming land in Yorkshire, when the Fylde Water Board proposed biulding a reservoir there in the early 60's. At all other times it was cursed and valueless. My late dsther used to call them the Rathmell rice fields. Jamie

Just cos his lady friend happened to be in the 'box and they were watching Aussie Rules footie on a (probably illicit) tv. and a very nice signal box to - from the outside! RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted June 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 5, 2019 Right finally caught up after a couple of days absence/being unable to get here (because 'here' was apparently in 502 land for most of an evening) and other nonsense plus the DJM thread providing much reading but little of any surprise to those of us who have known various things for a long time back - pity about folk losing money. So we've had rain - quite a proper job bit of rain yesterday and some G word done but little more J word so it still lurks out there despite there being less of it that there was this time last week. The Good Doctor is, I understand, now in Romania having had bogies changed en route from Moldova (the train's bogies that is) so should by now have finished her trek from Transnistria to Transylvania. Meanwhile the lad is off to Madrid tomorrow for a work session with the Spanish branch and no doubt a trip round some eaterie's menu which he'll probably have even less idea of than a French menu (but no such troubles in Dublin). We used to regularly use a small family run restaurant in Montmartre when in Paris on leisure trips and their English language menu needed only a glance before you asked for the version in French - the latter actually being understandable. The restaurant I used regularly when over there on work trips was just round the corner and I didn't need a menu there as I knew it off by heart - it never changed in the four years I was a regular customer. The big advantage of staying in the same hotel in Pigalle, which we used when over there for work trips, was that the walk down to Gare du Nord took us past an absolutely top notch ironmonger's shop which was ideal for finding all sorts of useful tools and stuff you couldn't find at home. So work trips to Paris did have some things to offer apart from good lunches at sensible prices, cheap cigarettes and the ability to get decent wine for acceptable prices. Great news about DEbs and i hope taht has finally sorted things for her. Enjoy the rest of your day one and all.

Heaven help us when it starts signing autographs! It's a definite maybe. Chris 6
RMweb Gold Popular Post Shedman5 Posted June 5, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 5, 2019 Afternoon, grey and dismal outside but not raining at the moment, great to hear the news re Debs. A busy day today, kicked off with the dentists followed by my Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening all clear on both accounts which is good news, though it means I wont see my lovely dentist for a while! Just finished wiring the last set of lights on my layout getting to old to be underneath baseboards, if and a big if i build another layout some thought will be given to hinged baseboards for easy access to wiring!! 12 1
Popular Post Ian Abel
Great news about Debs. I have to add, BEFORE she manages a return to ER ---> trains, TRAINS, TTTRRAIIINNSS, more TRAINS, oh and trains Happy HUMP day everyone. Nothing of interest yesterday really, I was expecting to have the screen on my mobile replaced (we've got them insured) but when the guy arrived he determined the other damage rendered the screen irreplaceable on this particular model. So I get a replacement phone instead. Should arrive tomorrow. 17 and sunny first thing, headed for 27, better than yesterday but still higher humidity than is particularly acceptable Carry on. One suspects that photographs of said snowfall in the Stanthorpe area might not have impressed as much to an audience who sees snow on perhaps an annual basis. Based on this report from the ABC, the amount of snow in the southern downs would be described in most places where snow is frequent as a "trace".

Given that this time last year it had never even occurred to me to attend a Pride, it will be quite something to be part of the biggest one in the UK. The answer to your next question is that all the buses will be long gone by the time those of us at the back set off. Chris Take pride in what you're doing. Yesterday, Google celebrated 50 years of Pride.
JohnDMJ
A plea for help, if I may? I am preparing an article, as some of you already know, with the working title of 'Scale vs. Gauge'. Back in the late 70s, this fine book was produced and I was given a copy. However, as I am (still) in the process of moving house, my copy is buried in a box deep in the rooms of boxes. I recall that there is a section devoted to the development of the model gauges, starting at Gauge 1 and descending via 0 to H0 etc. I am looking for a scan of this part of the book for reference in my article and will duly credit you (by full name, not RMWeb handle) as well as the book. My deadline is 21st June! Thanks in advance. 2

Model railway pedants on these forums constantly correct, whilst manufacturers maintain the errors. 1
