RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 3, 2019 Afternoon all. I was mea t to be spending the day on the station at Donny before giving a talk at the MRC. However the best laid plans etc. Beth had a tyre blow out on the way to meet a friend. Fortunately she was only doing about 3 mph. I then had to walk the 2 miles to wherd she was, cha ge the wheel and then try to get a new tyre. £95 and a few hours later this was completed. In the interim I was able to see a mate and my first Azuma (not at the same time. The talk awaits tonight, title "Trains around the world". RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2019 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Amongst the items cleared from the shed en route to the workmate was a directors chair. Its seen very little use as I bought a replacement over a year ago so I will be passing it onto the young lad as the chair he used to have had broken. All the baseboard items except for the ends have been measured and cut. The ends will be done when the rest has been assembled so that if any adjustments are necessary they can be done then.
Ozexpatriate
We appear to be back after at least a 6 hour hiatus. Still a sunny Monday here, but today was forecast to be slightly cooler. It was nice at lunchtime and now in the early evening is still very lovely looking. Time to go home. Happy Tuesday. RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 4, 2019 (edited) Well, I found that the point motor I bought requires a 1 1/8" hole. Muses: now can I buy one for less than the price of the point motor? I'm also trying to see if I can put modern axle sets into Kitmaster coach bogies as I have a collection of unassembled/partly assembled kits. (6-8 boxes). Top hat bearings require shorter axles, so I'm playing with the plain ones. Edited June 4, 2019 by BR60103
Robert
Morning All, It is a nice bright morning here. The temperature is due to rise later on - but hopefully we won't have the thunderstorms that we did yesterday afternoon. The rain was pretty torrential. Have a good day everyone...
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all I don't know where yesterday went but there was precious little on the box by way of distraction. Such was the coverage given to the state visit of the President of the United States that when history is written some will wonder what else happened yesterday. The lottery terminal at Tesco Metro had failed so I had to go to the newsagent at the bus station to buy my tickets. I got a free lucky dip. Whoopee! Oh yes: the laundry got done so there is ironing awaiting my pleasure today. I did stumble across an interesting radio programme on Cambridge 105 in which the organisers of Cambridge Pride were interviewed. Today there must be a fodder run before breakfast which tends to concentrate the mind, if only for a moment. Later comes the big one - checking my bank statement. Later today will be the funeral of a friend's father. It was kind of him to invite me but I will not attend. I hope that it will be successful in celebrating the life of the deceased and giving comfort to those left behind. So many funerals feature the same old dirgy hymns and unimaginative words that it is difficult to imagine just what sort of comfort they can bring. My cousin died four years ago and through the service shared his wicked sense of humour with friends and family, provoking happy memories at the wake. Nowhere near such a joyful occasion was the funeral of a friend and workmate just before Christmas 2005. He had died of liver failure aged only 35. Many, including me, knew that he liked a drink but few if any twigged just how bad the situation had become until it was too late to help him. The air was heavy with grief, tears and guilt. I hope I never have to attend such a harrowing occasion again. Best wishes to all Chris 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner temple hare, 4 hours solid sleep followed by 2 hours dozin followed by another hour dozin on the sofa.. The drive in was enlivened by two fire engines hammering along the Great Yarmouth and North Norfolk railway line having come from Wroxham, or as it is now the Stalham bypass. Followed shortly after, by an otherwise unmarked, white car with blue flashing lights. Since they had to almost pass Stalham fire station I would guess that has set off as well. Someone has had a bad morning I think.. Work today... not a lot as the outer lab will be closed later, it really depends on what they've moved so far, if nothing I can get started on one major system be for I get banned from the area. Time to read delete the companies junk mail.. 2
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 4, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Like ChrisF I was at a loss what to do without RMweb so in the end I had an early night. I did see somewhere that 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' was showing on TV but thats not until next Tuesday (11th, 15:05 BBC 2) so no relief there from a certain visit. As a result of that early night as you can see I'm up early but now I'm going back to bed for a bit. 16

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2019 Ey up! Birds are singing, clouds are gathering. Should get about an hours play in at the match in Driffield today. Then it is going to chuckitdarn. Pah! Still it's better than the snow they have had in the Blue Mountains near Sydney! I didn't notice the outage until late yesterday as I was making clean replicas of railway locomotives dirty to match some photos I had been sent. Mugatea time then, collect tablets, get collected and off to Driff. Have a great day/evening/night! Baz 19

RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 4, 2019 Mawning, A quick visit to the site of martyrdom of England’s first saint resulted in at least one photograph that I am happy to submit to the local club’s competition. SWMBO spent some time in adjacent shops whilst I contemplate the meaning of life on a nearby bench seat. When we got home, the local “shaken to the core” vibration team on the building site were compacting the adjacent soil so much that crockery in our kitchen was rattling in its cupboards. Our protestations probably fell on deaf ears, those of the builders have probably been destroyed by the (what is now) seven day cacophony as they seek to lash up overpriced shacks! That was followed by eldest granddaughter’s post-school present opening and then watching eldest grandson’s cricket team receive more of a drubbing than the England cricket team Upon returning home, I found that I couldn’t drop in on the diary of misadventures and frivolity that is known as RMWeb so I managed to waste away almost a couple of hours achieving almost nothing instead. I did however manage to place an order with a booze emporium that has regal pretentious for SWMBO’s second favourite Kiwi SauvBlanc, a nice Primitivo that hits the spot for me and some local gin so that I can watch the world go by in an al-fresco style without getting stressed about it. Today we await the the return of The Steam Iron, despatched by Phillips on Friday courtesy of ParcelForce’s Express 24 hour service but of course, as many uses of that service have proved to me, never delivered within the stated period. Is ParcelForce the worst delivery firm operating in the U.K. today? I certainly can’t think of a less reliable one! Other forthcoming delights include the mobile wet fish man’s visit after his holiday last week and my weekly stroll to play crib in one of our hostelries this evening. Rain is forecast so some modelling may be achieved too! Enjoy your day in peace and without stress or pain if possible. 18
Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings all from the boring borough. Bill, good luck with the jury service. Hopefully your stint will be more interesting than my waste of time was. (10 full days, <6 hours in court) Work's travel plans are in effect "brewery pissup organise couldn't". Paris: yes, nope, maybe, yes, not sure, no, perhaps next week, I'll get back to you. New project moved forward: Solihull office tomorrow for 9:30, err 15:00, err moved to client site in Telford for 9:00, cancelled, back on but now over Skype for 9:30 and 11:00. Good thing I didn't book any trains or hotel rooms. Asshats. That's about it from here. cool and cloudy here at the moment. Just 4 more days of working in the shed before I get my office in the house back. Enjoy the day.
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 4, 2019 Good morning all, Dark clouds overhead and according to my phone app it will rain in 44 minutes. Not much done yesterday after visits to bank and shops although I have balanced the books. (For now) Modelling token fund is quite healthy which is just as well because I believe a pre-order is due before long and I also need to order some more timber and lots of track at some stage. Still haven't ventured to the shed because of knee grief. I have made an appointment to see the doc but that won't be until the end of next week. The Boss is off out to lunch with friends later whilst I will man the barricades and await a couple of parcels. Have a good one, I.M. RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 4, 2019 Muggocoffee consumed, morning ablutions competed, mail opened (nothing worthwhile) and now about to spend most of the day writing. Dad's mobility scooter was delivered yesterday and he seems pleased with it but the insurance will take another couple of days to come through so he's just toddling about locally with it until then. SWMBO is off to the pictures this evening with a friend so I may indulge in some mode**ing then. Apart from that not much to report. Wishes to all for a successful day. Dave PS. - it's raining. 17

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted June 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 4, 2019 Morning all. It's grey and damp but as Ikea is less than a mile away that's to be expected. The talk at the MRCwas well received last night. It was good to be able to show the video of the Big Boy withe the sound system cranked right up. Today is a sorting out day and then babysitting Emily tonight while the new Mum's go out for a meal. It will be the first time they've left her. We have had to gently remind Rachel that we did manage to raise both her and her two brothers. I'm openi g a book on whether the new grandma will actually allow me to help. My competence will be suspect as I'm a mere male. My only experience of juries is giving evidence to them. Jamie
