RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 2, 2019 (edited) Happy 40th Jamie and Beth. Good to see you and have a chat yesterday at Doncaster Jamie and many thanks for the suggested alterations to the MPD layout plan. It was also good to meet up with Supersonic and the other RMWs I saw and I managed to get rid of a good few modelling tokens to positive effect. During all this SWMBO and the other female representatives of our party had been out to a plant fair and other arcane feminine venues on a revenge spending spree so several bank balances suffered. We got home at about 1800 and after dinner when all but SWMBO, me and and pal from Aberystwyth (Crimson Rambler) had gone, he and I set about a malted Scottish water appreciation society meeting on the patio until 0200 so I've been feeling a little delicate this morning. Time now for some admin duties - yuk!! TTFN Dave Edited June 2, 2019 by Dave Hunt Predictive text nonsense not previously spotted 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 2, 2019 I have returned from the land that sunlight forgot, or behind the shed in less dramatic terms. The effort of getting through the ivy and other plant stems was such that when in place I called for Aditi to pass me the wood stain. I did get out but was a bit messy. Aditi said it was fortunate that the stain was summer tan rather than green as I would have looked very silly. Anyway all clean now. I declined the offer of tea and substituted beer. Lunch soon. Just cheese and pickle rolls, but that is just what I want. Tony 23
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 2, 2019 I've not read or rated the last 36hours here's why.. My log of the night.. A few notes of the race as recorded at Hickling broad. As it turned out 108 boats had entered but 6 withdrew before the start. Saturday. 10:30 Set up buoy and sat in rescue boat at Hickling broad buoy, closer to entrance than normal. Just near the end of the first island in Hickling Broad. 10:50 guardship arrives Janet 5 loaned by Martham boats, very nice it is too. 11:00 race starts 11:20 first 4 starts gone but some drifting back to start line, rest of starts postponed. Delay turns out to be 55 minutes.... 1 boat took an hour to cross the start line 13:20 Last start 13:43: first 5 boats at Ludham bridge check point. 13:45 A punt has a confidence crisis, persuaded to carry on at least till they’ve past the first check point. 14:00 very nice vegetable curry arrives from Hickling sailing club. 14:03 first boats at south walsham 14:05 DNS list 6 boats, 2 punts and 4 keelboats... 14:15 main fleets pouring round ludham buoy, Thames A rater retires torn mainsail last year’s winner!!! 14:20 first boats at Thurne mouth. Heading toward us.. 14:40 last start boats reach ludham . 15:00 first boats at Potter heigham bridge. 15:15 first boats at martham 15:37 first boats at hickling, A rater, some confusion two boat go past both of classes that are competing.. But they weren’t . 16:05 boat just leaving cockshoot broad 16::00 is boats coming through at more than 1 a minute. 16:38 punt retires too knackered to go on, it’s tacking all the way from thurne mouth to the lower bure buoy. 16:50 we’ve seen 1/3 of boats.. 17:00 it’s now gone quiet, the boats were taking 15 minutes to get here from martham, but 45 minutes to tack back. It appears that 1/3 of boats have chosen to fight the tide to get here, in the hope of doing a 3 tide race. The rest have gone to the lower bure buoy first which for them will be a 4 tide race. .17:00, 999 call to Acle , lady hit by dropping mast. Lady conscious glancing blow.. 17:00 punt lost its rudder, it been picked up by another boat, rescue boat try to catch up then going to tow punt. 17:54 wayfarer capsized, sorted themselves out, continuing in race. 18:06 another punt retired too knackered to carry on. 18:21, punt and rudder reunited, punt being towed back to base. 18:40, 26C we never saw it, it now getting very chilly especially as I’ve got to have the windward window open, to hear the competitors shout out their race numbers as they go past.. I’ve got my winter waterproofs on. 19:15 boats on their way back to Horning . 20:07 half the fleet seen. 20:22 Thames A rater Osprey ...first home they started at 12:55. 21:00 Star Class crew overboard at Acle bridge injured hand, lifejacket worked.. Bang.. Lent one to continue. 21:30 only 22 boats still running that we haven’t seen it looks like many of the boats that chose to do hickling have got caught by the tide at stokesby , quite a few retirements. 21:40 punt crew went for a swim at Acle, they are continuing. U 23:08 just 10 boats left to see 01:42 cramp.. Sat up with a start, glasses on top head hit underside of side deck, ex glasses.. Still boats retiring out there but they’re ones we’ve seen. 01:59 after 4 hours of light wind it’s definitely increasing maybe we’ll see some boats soon we’ve seen nothing since 23:54. 04:33 the sun is all but up. . Down to Six boats to see, because the others retired... No sails in sight. 07:20 they’re trying to persuade 4 of our boats not seen to retire, as they have no chance of finishing We can see one of the two that may finish. One of the slowest boats took 7 hours to reach Ludham from horning!!!!, I’ve done that in the past in one hour in a slowest handicap boat. 07:28 The second to last boat we’ll see just went past.. It has emblazoned on the sail... Sail fast. .. 07:46 Just one boat to see as all others have been here, or retired... 39 retirements this year, mostly from getting their choice of course wrong, against the tide. 08:02 our last boat... Time to go back to the club for breakfast 8:30 at hickling sailing club loading landrover 9:00 leave for Horning SC 10:30 last boat home no others in range to finish within their 24 hours. 11:30 landrover unloaded, breakfast had.. Time for bed and home. Normal service will annoy you when I've recovered... 18

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 2, 2019 Shed roof completed. Phew its hot out there. Even used a few offcuts of roofing on the old timber shed despite the felt being new last year, these corrugated sheets will last far longer. Time for some rest before the next phase.

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2019 Well teh rain showers arrived a bit late to avoid the G/J words so i resorted to strike action instead - on a sort of knee stopped play basis. In the meanwhile we hear via 'social meedja' that the Good Doctor departed Chisinau for a day trip to the Republic of Transnistria = which photographs rather well judging by her post. For those not in the know a modern version of an atlas would be needed in order to track her course (or t'internet). Enjoy your evening one and all.
RMweb Gold 81C Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 2, 2019 Evening All I still have Herightasre and it has gone out with one of the daughters this evening so a let up in the evil eye, it's all becoming very childish I guess at least another week to go even my friend Steve was also collateral damage in the fallout time. Mike is Knowl Hill on Saturday worth a visit I think I can manage local venues at the moment and there is a café a few doors down. I managed the journey to Paul's Friday to get a wagon kit and some coupling block mounts. Enjoy your evening C.H.Eesedoff 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2019 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Couldn't get out of my drive this lunchtime, and the street was blocked because of one badly parked car. After half an hour of trying to locate the owner it turned out she was standing a few yards away conversing with her companions with a full view of the carnage she was causing. She and her companions were leafleting for a church of all things. The weather forecast for the next few days is dry so I hope to get on with the lads layout. Dinner to be got ready so I'll be back later.

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2019 Hmm - THIS is the land light forgot, Tony! tigerburnie
Evening all, anniversary wishes to Jamie and Beth, we hit that number next year, that's going to cost me...……………... Funny old day again, it was raining in the morning, so I vanished into the loft to begin the dismantling of the old layout, it was 4.30 when I came down and when you look, it doesn't look like I've done much. All rolling stock is in boxes, some even in the right boxes and a fair bit of track has been lifted and cleaned of ballast, now either I watered down the pva too much or I have found an easy way to do the job, even recovered most of the ballast...……..well I live in Scotland so I've adopted the "grippit" desire to re cycle everything lol. Rain is forecast for most of the coming week, so plan to spend most of tomorrow doing more track lifting, when I think how much fun I had laying it, seems a bit sad lifting it, especially when I consider I am repeating history only in a smaller scale. G'night all. 12

Popular Post The Lurker
Happy anniversary to Jamie and Beth. And greetings to all from the Fold in the Hill, where the early promise of sun was lost in clouds and wind - but no rain. the weekend seems to have largely been spent on the g word but I allowed myself to be dissuaded from oiling the decking and am slightly annoyed with myself. The decking is knackered and needs replacing but not until the conservatory has likewise been dealt with; our preferred supplier is having difficulty getting his glass from China so us not committing to doing conservatories at present so I need to find alternative forms to quote, a business I find irritating and potentially humiliating as I know nowt about all the actual manual skills required so feel a sitting duck. First world problems though! 1

Popular Post BlackRat
Home! Quaffed 3 cups of tea, then took me bike boots off......... 1,720 miles since Monday morning, 2 countries, 1 mountain range and 1 lightbulb ( mine) out of 4 bikes. Every biker waves, cars pull over for you and the garage wouldn't accept payment for replacing the head lamp......a 20 minutes job......they even provided free coffees! NO motorways, superb roads, everywhere clean and tidy with NO litter and we saw just one pothole. Then we arrived home............. hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Greatbto be away, but even better to be back with Mrs BR who insists on coming next time. Happy days.

Enjoy your evening C.H.Eesedoff It's quite a small hall Bob but past shows haven't been too bad although restricted in content due to lack of space - and it's a bit of a s*d for parking if you aren't there early or get in after the first lot have gone. But it's organised by the Maidenhead cliub and they usually do a good job on shows. Judging by the name of the trader I doubt if you'll find any bargains. As far as Flic's Cafe is concerned I'm not sure if it's open but the website indicates that it is - it was closed at one time last year. But if it's open and if it's as good as it used to be you'll get a very good breakfast there, and Flic is something of a hoot. My current aim for Saturday is Jerry's show in Warminster but I haven't sussed out the trains as yet and i don't fancy driving there so i might yet finish up at Knowle Hill if the train times aren't too good. 1 hour ago, lightengine said: Just heard a local blackbird mimic a few notes of a car alarm. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 2, 2019 Good evening everyone The weather has been rather dismal all day, a very fine light rain for the most part, the sun finally showing itself just after 6:00 this evening. Well, despite spending most of the day in the workshop, I’ve not really done an awful lot of modelling done today, apart from thinning down the plasticard roof extensions. After that I decided that I needed sort out a lot of small containers which I seem to have dotted all about the place. Each one contained various screws, nuts, washers, gears, off cuts of brass, plasticatd etc. So I sorted these out, emptying several and giving myself quite a bit more space in which to work. Amongst the bits I came across a box with some wagon kits in, one of which was half complete. So after I’d finished my tidying up session, I decided to carry on with it. I managed to solder up most of the large bits, leaving just the brake gear and buffers left to do, I’ll do that next weekend. I quite enjoyed building that kit, (SEF SR match trucks) it was something a little different and a fairly straightforward build. The fit of the parts was very good, with just the odd bit of flash needed removing. Goodnight all

RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted June 3, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3, 2019 Happy anniversary to the newlyweds. We ended up at a train shop today. Couldn't get up to $100 to get the 15% discount but had my regular cash bonus. SWMBO bought a Lionel gold bullion car and a print of a loco we had trips behind while courting. I splurged on a point motor (literally motor) by Rapido. Also visited the British grocer wholesale -- various things I can't identify and a big bottle of real Fairy liquid.
