RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 30, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2019 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. The construction of the lads layout is on hold for a day or two. You would think that the orange emporium would have some 9 mm ply that was straight and not warped and twisted, I couldn't find a single straight piece. At least other emporiums are available and will be visited over the next few days. 6
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted May 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 30, 2019 Afternoon all, Bins were done early - makes a nice change from after 16,00 in the afternoon. Tesco was visited for various comestibles and commiserations on the checkout for the loss of the discount now the Good Doctor has been redundantificated - she we presume is still in Kiev, Moldova is next on her list., the lad is in Dublin on a one day flying visit, and we had home made veg soup for lunch, some sort of chicken and rice thing for dinner tonight. The big challenge of trying to change the cutting thread on the small strimmer might be tackled again this afternoon after Tuesday's dismal failure to do it. Quite why the 'designers' design something which needs to be dismantled to change a consumable part but which then won't dismantle is way beyond me? I presume their idea is that if you make it impossible to change the cutting 'thread' you'll go out and buy yet another strimmer? Enjoy the rest of the day folks.

Doesn't cost that much, Mike, and worth it to avoid the hassle. Brian. 6 2 5

I think strimmers with auto feed (alleged) have caused me more frustration than any other garden tool. Well until we got a Stihl strimmer. It is rather heavy and I need the shoulder strap but it does do what it is supposed to. 9 2
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 30, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Checking my off cuts pile I think I may have just enough 9 mm ply to make the baseboard for the lads layout. The only thing I need now is something for the base to support the 50 mm insulation foam top of the baseboard. I have a piece of 9 mm MDF that will be sufficient so I might use that. 11
RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted May 30, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 30, 2019 (edited) Evening all. Today I picked up a copy of last/this/next month’s BRM* Great article by our own Mr Newbryford and I’m pleased that he finally admits that he does have a yellow fetish (his words, not mine). Enjoy the rest of your evening.** * Publishing dates seem a moveable feast. This is June’s issue, bought this month, but published two years gone February or so it would seem. ** For those reading this later..... Goodnight all. I'm very happy with mine - it uses a pre-wound spool of the plastic cutting 'string' that you simply pop in and thread through one hole. (Getting the plastic cover off to access the spool was it's own intelligence test - which I passed, eventually.) I like my edger. It is lightweight and battery powered. I don't have a lot of edging to do and one charge on the battery lasts for many uses. It was sold as a bundle with a leaf blower that uses the same interchangeable battery, but I've never used the leaf blower in anger - they're annoying.
Popular Post Simon G
I have two strummers, one petrol and one electric. The auto feeds have always been carp, so I just manually feed them! The petrol one has a removable head, which can be replaced with a metal disc, which is lethal, but great at dealing with brambles and nettles which often prove a challenge to the plastic line. Todays weather has also been carp, as it has either drizzled or rained nearly all day. It is all my own fault, as only about a week ago, I was thinking that it was so dry, we needed some rain! Fatal! Today saw a shopping trip to Whitehaven, which included a visit to Morereasons which proved interesting. We got to the till with a couple of packets of their own brand breakfast cereal, and the packet of Fruit and Fibre came up on the cashier’s screen as being unable to sell to us. There was no explanation, and the cashier had never seen the message before, neither had the supervisor. The supervisor replaced it with another packet of the other cereal we had bought, and threw in a packet of Kellogg’s Fruit and Fibre for our troubles. Great to see the cricket World Cup has started, with a great early win for England. If you get the chance to see a catch by Ben Stokes, watch it - you may never see a better catch!
tigerburnie
Evening all, what a soggy old day, not the day for being outside, but I managed quite a bit of useful progress in TOSH, I picked up some 12 inch brackets from the Green and Gold diy shed as Montrose doesn't have an Orange one and most of these are in place to support the baseboards. They will also give good access underneath, both for working on wiring and when finished, a useful storage area, I am getting rid of a lot of "useful stuff" but you can't get rid of all of it can you, some of this stuff has been with me for years!! Additional lighting has been installed and tested, these LED lights really are good aren't they, only down side is they don't generate heat like halogen ones, so a fan heater is in place for the damp or colder days/nights. Next job is to begin dismantling the old Great Central one, I shall have a last play.......er I mean run of locos/trains before removing them, as rain is forecast again, that could be taking up most of tomorrow. G'night all.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted May 30, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2019 Good evening everyone Not long after Sheila had left for her Zumba class, it started to rain, this stayed with us until mid afternoon, when the sun came out and it got quite warm. I managed to get the first coat of waterproofing solution mixed and applied to the cellar walls, I’m hoping to apply the final coat on Monday. After tea I went swimming, but by then it had become very overcast with some real dark clouds, but thankfully no rain, but there was quite a stiff breeze, which made the water a bit choppy. This made the session a bit more difficult so it took a few minutes longer to complete my 3 laps. The water temperature hadn’t changed since last week, it was still 16.4C. Once I’d returned home, I poured my a glass of Doombar. John. Great news about Deb’s, thanks for the updates. Goodnight all.

It's tedious, and potentially very hazardous depending on location and jack stability. Plus, the spare well in my car will only accommodate the miniature 'rinky dink' spare. I had to do this multiple times in the summer while the house across the street was being built - I kept collecting screws.

RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted May 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 31, 2019 With 3 sets of contractors/workmen in the house this week, plus a concert on Wednesday instead of Saturday, we're not sure what day it is. We drove to the far corner of the city for chep gas, then found out that the pot roast SWMBO wanted wasn't on sale. Had a phishing eMail on our cable/internet account today. from mysurveygizmo Chrisf -- It's nice to know they want more of your work. I just found out that a friend a block away gets Bylines but I didn't have time to read your piece. Bylines is not carried by any store within reaching distance. 10

Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all! It's good to have news of Debs. The toolbox is tidier than it was and now contains the box of drills. There was a modicum of m*d*ll*ng yesterday with an outburst of bad language as one by one some droppers that I had soldered two weeks earlier detached themselves. No wonder I feel like the snail trying to climb out of the well. The toolkit may see some use today IF I can get the car much nearer to the house than it is at the moment. It may end up there once I have done the fodder run but at the moment there is no room in the boot for the shopping. These, gentle reader, are just some of the the joys of living in the second street outside the controlled parking zone. Tomorrow I plan to hit the road early on my way to Rhiwderin for the AGM of the Welsh Railways Research Circle. As no-one wants to do any of the key jobs it could be interesting. There is one reason above all why I like to attend - Mrs Warrington's Welsh cakes! These apart, it's usually a pretty social gathering and the trundle through the Cotswolds on the way can be quite atmospheric. Now that I don't have to pay to get into Wales, which always wrankled, I can have a nice relaxing breakfast somewhere better than Magor services! Assume that I will not post before I set out. Best wishes to all Chris
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted May 31, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 31, 2019 Mooring Awl Inner temple Hare, An amazing night's sleep only 2 interuptions and one of those was SWMBO having a sneezing fit, she can subsitute for a fog horn doing that. The wild flowers are coming out by the roads sides, which makes for a beautiful trip in , pity my brain kept switching to incidents from the dim and distant past.. News from work, the main lab has to be stripped of all equipment on Tuesday, as they are removing the ceiling panels to install new cabling , supports for the new AC and various other tasks. Due to the old roof being asbestos it supposedly fails tests up there. This means there will be no work I can do on tuesday other than work out my programme for the next three months, a very relaxing day. Also on Tuesday, it's free cream teas on the company as part of their engagement scheme. Giving out cream teas worth costing 50p to them, won't make any difference to the opinion of the company., but it at least will help fill up the day. The outer lab is running on the new AC as of yesterday, it seems to do the job. Todays after work is a trip to Tes and co, bread, milk and snacks. to keep me fed for the up to 30 hours I'll spend down on the water tomorrow /Sunday for the 3 Rivers Race. The wind speed for the start has gone down to 7mph for the start but the overall speed for the whole race has increased and it's moved to a southerly which means many tacks to get to Acle / Stracy arms turning point. The second major equipment should have completed it's cross check over night. I have a Temperature equipment to calibrate, which luckily says on a sticker do not adjust if less than 75% of spec. so far it's less than 20%, so with an hours work left on the pre adjust cal that will probably go this morning. Time to... proceed in a westerly direction to the main lab and get the results of the cross check to process.
