Happy birthday Rick (yet again, GDB was misleading me). Slightly delayed this morning as the internet went AWOL for about ten minutes just after nine. Muggatee to be drunk, be back later. Yep, blame me Phil, it's all my fault. I can take it. I get blamed for most things that happen around here and in the world generally. Just got my third quote for the garden which makes the original one that I thought excessive seem positively reasonable. Now waiting for the first one to come back to let me know when he can do it as he is much in demand and also contracts for designers at Hampton Court and Chelsea flower shows. 15

It would seem that Benfleet is cut off from the rest of Essex this morning. A collision between a motor cycle and van at the Sadlers Farm roundabout is still causing congestion for miles around. Aditi is supposed to be going to Brentwood but may have to cancel her hairdressing appointment. I can’t think of too many places locally that are pronounced very differently to their spelling. Nearer London I suppose Feydun Boys is though. Tony Thanks for the heads up Tony, hopefully things will get sorted by lunchtime. When talking of pronouncing place names how about Happisburgh, pronounced Hays-ber-ro. Edited May 17, 2019 by PhilJ W 11
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2019 Good morning everyone Well it’s a cloudy start to the day and there is evidence of a bit of rain when you look up through the dining room skylight, but it’s not raining at the moment. We will shortly be heading off to the Trafford Centre, yes I will be accompanied today, so no doubt we’ll be there a lot longer than if I’d gone on my own and we’ll also no doubt end up spending more than I do when unaccompanied. Apparently we need to buy some birthday cards and I’m not to be trusted to get the right ones! I mean WHAT could possibly go wrong? Rick. Happy birthday. Back later Brian, Apparently not all birthday cards have locomotives on them. Aged about ten, my kid sister asked if she could have a horsey card. So next time she got one of a Gresley A3. It supports a 100Kg Kingzance model without too many issues . I did get the 4-piece outrigger set so I can perform the pasadoble when mounted without fear. Seriously though, I have a bit of a brutal, petrol-powered hedge trimmer which can be extended to 3m long or can have a small chainsaw or strimmer head fitted (no need to strim 3m away of course) so it works well cutting 3m high hedges or tree branches and gives a good reach, hence the need for the outrigged stabilisers. 3 1
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning all, I slept like a stone after yesterdays roofing exertions, need to pop in to the supplier for some more fixing as we get some hefty gales being near the coast and I don't want my roof doing a Mary Poppins through the village, I under estimated how many I needed, four bags of fittings for 15 sheets is not enough and at less than a fiver, I'll get two more I think. Sky is still clear and blue with no sign of a cloud, certainly picked the right day for diy'ing in the garden, next task after removing even more accumulated "stuff"(some I actually brought north when we moved 16 years ago and still hasn't been used lol) is to line the inside with some sort of insulation.
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted May 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 17, 2019 ohh that looks interesting, with 8ft 6 in high ceilings and the house on a bit of a mound, it's 20ft to the eaves I've been perusing scaffold towers for some time. That looks a good price... I also have lots of old trees that need a severe trim with the chain saw. Happisburgh? from my model railway shed I can see the light house , most I hear round here say "hays br uh"
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted May 17, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2019 Morning all, Miss one day and there's over 4 pages to catch up, almost as busy as Piccalilee Circus round here. Happy birthday (again_ Rick - I was also misled by 'someone else' as you know and PhilJW has already noted. Yesterday was faux Friday but due to reasonable stock levels was restricted to a local Tesco visit, which judging by the lack of stock in various places would seem to indicate that the new staffing arrangements might not be producing quite the result the high-ups intended. Not that we buy meat there but the meat counter looked like a sort of disaster area with lots of stock items still wrapped although it had been open on Wednesday - I suspect reducing it to a short week will turn out to be a prelude to reducing it to a non-existent week of opening. All goes to show what happens when a remote managerial decision takes effect and 10 members of staff take redundancy instead of buying into the new imposed working hours. We are forecast rain today so the G word might not take effect, you never know. Have a good day everybody. 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted May 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2019 Duirinish is Doo-ra-NISH. Achnashellach is reasonably obvious if you remember Scotland uses the hard ch. Ack-na-SHELL-ack, approximately. Woolfardisworthy is a good ‘un. And there is not just one but two of them. In Devon it’s WOOL-z’ree (and seen on some signposts as Woolsery) but in Zummerzit it’s WOOL-zee 15

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted May 17, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 17, 2019 As Aditi had to cancel her hair appointment this morning (rescheduled for this evening) I waited until the traffic cleared and took her car to have its tyres swapped for something more suited to the current season. We have been a bit later than usual but I think the danger of really cold mornings has passed. Tony

I've done OK ish on Valsartan and Moxonidine, but only ish! If this is a bit better and we can get rid of the ish without significant side effects I'll be more than happy. The Valsartan does make me lethargic but not as bad as some others have in the past. I've tried about every family of anti-hypertensives in the past and ARB's have been the best balance we could achieve. I have a new GP as my previous very good one has gone off to be a politician here, so we're still getting to know one another so I don't yet know how good his drug knowledge is, but he was OK the other day, suggesting a few alternatives and had actually read my notes. Always a winner, I fell out with a ward doctor when I was having one of my foot surgeries big time over that. Having worked 'in the trade' I know a bit what they should be about. 9 5

Popular Post Ian Abel
Happy birthday Rick. POETS - morning all. For pronunciation from my locale I offer; 1) Mahtomedi 2) Lake Calhoun - wait for it, simple for sure, BUT, due to some severe PC over the guy it was named after (some racist US secretary of War from the 1800s) there is a huge fight over renaming it since it's the largest lake in Minneapolis and much of the surrounding area/businesses etc., use the name, all of which would suddenly likely want to change their names also to avoid "association"... I give you "Bde Maka Ska" the original Dakota name. Everyone is struggling with pronunciation, though those "in the know" say it's easy. Uh huh! Given the previous name has been around since only about 1839 I'm sure we'll get used to it! Following on from yesterdays notes on our remodel project, it appears the permit came through. When I got home last night we went over to check on progress; walls down, new support beam in place and partial wall (on left side) built, that area leads down to the basement. Amazing that they've got as far as they have in barely a day since the last time I'd seen pictures from the Mrs. Definitely won't complain at their speed of progress Of for coffee with some committee members in moments then "some" work, nearly done my quota for the week anyway since the client frown on being billed more than 40 hours! Then it'll be POE. This weekend some more work in the other house, and Sunday a belated birthday get together for Jemma (her birthday was Tuesday but she's gone as was I) for which I'm making/baking the cake 10 this AM expecting only 12 and chance of some showers/thunderstorms later and potentially most of the weekend. Hope the weekend start well for all. 22
lightengine
My surname must have a hard D in it, because when I spell it out the recipient says it with a pronounced T instead of a D. Luckily I am not a Bottomly pronounced Bumley. How do you pronounce the surname Bastard? 8

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted May 17, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17, 2019 I had to ask Rick the Sparks to return today to move a socket as it was in the wrong place (my fault, not his) When I asked what the damage was he said "Nothing Bob, I wish all my customers paid as promptly as you did." I gave him a drink anyway. Now enjoying a second glass of Aussie Shiraz and have just been informed by Management that there's a programme about the North Yorkshire Moors Railway on the telly box tonight.
