SWMBO’s teeth duly attended although she has a return visit in a fortnight for some extra treatment. Son happy with the electric string and connectors I made up for him. Bushes trimmed, edges strimmed, lawns mown so that garden can be forgotten for another 7-10 days (more likely the former at the rate it is presently growing). Delightful mid afternoon alfresco lunch with very convivial group of old friends meant we got back home around 7:30. A quiet day may be on the cards tomorrow although I may take a look at a Kamado barbecue as we don’t always want to use that of daughter and SiL and attempt to swing a few golf bats again.

Peaaceful, easy feelings and extended periods of unbroken snoring for those so afflicted to one and all. G’nite.

Beth didn't fancy 283 miles to Elko and everyone advised us to avoid Winnemucca. We stopped in Sparks and were offerred a room at $244 for the night. A loud "OW MUCH" was utterred and I consulted the map to see two small commu ities of Wadsworth and Fernley about 30 miles further on.  En route Beth surprised me by noting and recording two UP loco numbers on a passing freight whilst I was driving.  Wasdsworth was like somethi g out of a Steinbeck novel so we went on to Fernley and found a Comfort Inn which had a room at less than half the price. Beth is very happy with the room but has just discovered that we can see the UP main line from the room  window.  However there is a casino in town.  Happy days.

I may be teaching an elderly relative to hoover up ovoids, but do you know about Expedia, Trivago etc.? And that all (?) McDonald's restaurants have free wifi?

We've often stopped in at a Mickey D's for a coffee once we've decided how much further we want to drive in a day and booked our accommodation ahead for the night.

Bats go all over the place looking for food (flying insects of various sorts) so not surprising really that they'd be over a cricket ground which has plenty of open space.

We used to regularly get them flitting around in Tilehurst in the evenings but we don't see them here.  I suspect the difference is that over there we were on a hillside so in effect there was more open space between the rows of houses whereas here we;'re relatively flat with plenty of large shrubs at the front plus high fences on both sides and the back garden is below some of the surrounding land with trees around most of it as well.  Plus there we were not very far from an old barn and a couple of other old farm buildings whereas here the nearest farm buildings are around half a mile away and have plenty of open ground nearby.  I wonder if the polo field - which is be near said old farm buildings - gets visits from bats as it's all open ground between them?

Wireless USB mice are nice. All the tethered ones will be USB these days too. The old serial mouse port is gone from most (alll?) laptops.

I don't use a mouse! Much prefer a trackball.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. When I left the club this evening it wasn't completely dark so I was able to see several bats flitting around over the cricket ground.

Sure you're not talking [cricket] balls? ;)

Good morning one and all

I admit it.  I was too hard on the BBC on Monday.  As the week goes on the nature and extent of its contribution to Mental Health Awareness Week becomes clearer.  I had expected the sort of discussion that the Victoria Derbyshire programme does so well – guess who watches too much daytime TV!  What has been happening is that major contributions, such as the documentary to be fronted by the Duke of Cambridge, have been heavily trailed on news programmes.  Afternoon Live in particular went to town on the subject yesterday.  Although it is not scheduled for transmission during this week, Alistair Campbell’s forthcoming account of his period of depression promises to be both revealing and shocking.  Who better than one of the great communicators in and around politics to raise its profile?  Even Doctors got in on the act yesterday.  I should learn to read Radio Times more carefully in future and not to make quite so many sweeping judgements.

Another forthcoming CD release hit my doormat yesterday – Field and Dyke, by Danny Pedler and Greg Russell.  All I will say about it now is that it’s something different and I am keen to hear it.  It has bypassed the purdah that is the hessian carrier bag and gone straight to the in-car player.  When I first heard about it, back in January, I just had to have one.  Anything involving Greg Russell deserves to be taken seriously, especially when he takes the trouble to write “thank you” on the jiffy bag!

Best wishes to all

Chris

Morning All,

It is a little overcast, and somewhat chilly this morning.

I have quite a busy day ahead, so I guess I had better get on!

Have a good day everyone...

Morning all.

Once ablutions have been abluted, I am off to Carlisle for a run over one of my favourite lines the Settle and Carlisle.

Unfortunately the changes in the services in this years timetable makes a stopover in Settle impractical.

Ey up!

Bit overcast here at the moment.

Forgot to mention. Ordered some bits from Fraggle Rock on Tuesday. Delivered here to the North West Leeds Highlands yesterday.  Excellent service.

Today may involve laying some cork, filling stock boxes and other delights. But first a mugatea and..

Best wishes to all who ail or are missing from ERs

Baz

Good morning all,

Another bright start here and it should be a sunny morning but may cloud over later.

Portside knee playing up at the moment due to the exertions of the past couple of days. Can't be helped as there is lots to do as more "stuff" needs to be moved from the house as we've got new windows being fitted next week. Going to try to erect a couple of the boards in the shed and see if they are useable and if I can salvage any of the points.

Still waiting for the garden quotes which were being sent "later today or tomorrow." (That was said Monday and Tuesday morning)

First up today is the main trip to Sainsbury's. I have been warned that "we are sticking to the list today." I'll do everything in my power to circumvent that as I know full well that certain things are left off the list deliberately as somebody thinks "we don't really need them." Oh yes we do!

Have a good one,

Bob.

Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare,

4 hours sleep plus 3 hours intermittant dozing, not so good to night..

The heat of the sun Seems to have worked into the soil and there was no frost this morning, There were however puddles in the road in Effin clown town, not from the sky but from the hydrants. Yesterday on the way in they were trying to clear the road drains, using I think both the lorry giant vacuum cleaner and hoses. I think now they've used the hydrants they are now leaking..or not shut properly..

I finished the second temperature meter yesterday, and have just completed the paperwork and given it to someone else for checking.

So i'm just waiting for my current source to do it's daily cal, before doing 8 current shunts for the USA

Time too... wait...
