I know a cure for that! Funnily enough I had a similar conversation with someone yesterday, there is no point in thinking "what if" that is the road to nowhere. You can't change the past. Popular Post Robert
Morning All, It is a rather dull morning today, but somewhat more mild than it has been the past couple of days. Andy, What Laurence said is absolutely correct. You have done your best. My Mum went through this too. Years of nursing meant that she was going over and over the course of events leading to my Father's death thinking she had missed something. The Oncologist put her mind at rest to a certain extent by saying that by the time his cancer was symptomatic, it was already too late - but it still doesn't stop you wondering. It's human nature. The very fact that we turn everything over in our minds is another sign how much we care. Have a good day everyone... 4 1
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all I had another spell in the garden yesterday morning. This time I managed 40 minutes and ended up dripping with sweat. No doubt this is good for me. There were some pauses while I was captivated by a robin, which was either rooting through the earth from which I had just removed triffids or sitting on the wall as if to supervise me digging them out. At times it was less than a foot away and seemed unconcerned by my presence. Don’t tell anyone but I could end up enjoying gardening at this rate. PhilJ W, you may be right about getting old but this is something that I am reluctant to accept. I have been known to protest that I am still mis-spending my youth – admittedly rather overdrawn now. Perhaps my aunt [95] was right when she said that I should have a stick with me when marching in the Pride parade. I do still seem to have a stamina deficit after the chest infection. What I’m not sure is whether I can summon up reserves of energy at key moments. Saturday will be a good day to find out. When I decided to go to Exeter Pride, I had hoped, as I now learn is the case, that one of the attractions would be a ceilidh - or, as Bristol Uni's LGBT Society have taken to calling it, a gay-lidh. It is far too long since I last took part in one of these and if some of those at Sidmouth are any guide they can be wild! As I write this I can't help recalling how much my father enjoyed barn dances - tamer than a ceilidh, admittedly - until quite late in life. Now there's motivation! Today I am rooting for the 68 year old Falklands veteran who was stripped of his medals in 1993 after the Navy found out about his sexuality and is suing the MoD for their return. Thankfully we now live in more enlightened times and it would not happen now. It should not have happened then. Best wishes to all Chris 6 1

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted May 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2019 Good morning all, Raining steadily here with more to come along with sunny spells (possibly) and even the chance of thunderstorms. E-Day plus 1 and all the outside work is done which is good considering the weather. Some work in the shed still to be finished then Rick can connect the armoured cable inside the house, fit the new consumer unit along with a couple of other bits and Bob's your uncle. (or not as the case may be). Weird thing is I came down this morning, switched on a light and the bulb blew and fused the downstairs lights. First time I've had to rewire a fuse in nearly 30 years. Did seem a bit pointless as the fuse box is being ripped out later but I needed the lights on. Time to take some tea up to Her Bossness, Have a good one, Bob. 15
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted May 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 8, 2019 Monring from a wet Surrey. Hoping it will pass through by the time shed construction recommences today. Until my helper arrives mid morning I have plenty of modelling to do. I also still have to book a few hotels for the second part of our USA trip. Portland OR is booked but the hotels whilst having the car in Oregon still require finalising. Might even use the lodge by the river and tracks plus Walking Man brewery at Stevenson WA and then off to Pacific City to naother favourite spot.

I was up early hours this morning so started looking at wiring options to the shed. Looking at trunking at waist level around three sides so I can insert as many electrical outlets as I like. Still unsure as to whether I can bury the amroured cobel or just do the easier route of fixing to the fencing. The biggest headache is getting the cable inside the house. However 50m of cat 5E outdoor use cable should be delivered today as I found it at a good price. Our wifi signal does just reach the shed but is so weak that it wount be much use.
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted May 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 8, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple hare, This is the second time I've typed this, I had to wander off for a couple of minutes and when I came back Edge had reset itself. Unusually for this new rmweb format it had cleared the editor so I wandered down to the lab where I found the equipment had advanced beyond where I left it, The boss must have pushed it on to the next automatic section. Now sitting on the other computer at the lab, first resistor measurement taken, the next is settling. 3.75 hours sleep last night followed by 3 hours of intermittent dozing..not good.. I went via the Big Orange shed last night to collect the ply for the trailer hard top, it looking like a better day than Thursday due to the forecast.. So the heavens opened on the way back and the sheet of ply is now sitting inside the tin shed on it's edge hopefully drying out by Saturday. The lab is very much more pleasant than yesterday, all that brazing made the air in the outer lab foul, and it was begining to leak into my lab, even though I have a totally separate AC system. Second reading taken.. I think I've mentioned I'd like to run cat 5 down to the Railway Shed, however it's 150 yards, I don't fancy digging that far, and I may hit problems with it being a different phase of mains electricity and a different earth, so some sort of Isolation may be needed. I am wondering if I could feed the cat 5 to the garage alongside the mains in it's steel pipe, that may give me line of sight to allow airbourne transmission to the house of parallel bits of metal and bypass digging through a concrete path. Third reading taken... I don''t like the result. Time to redo the second reading... I can already see it's looking better..

Rick had a bit of fun getting the cable through the wall. Our old house has 9" solid walls and they are built with some sort of engineering bricks that are extremely hard. The cable is underground where it crosses the garden gate then clipped to the fencing until near the shed and is then underground again for a few feet. The Boss has just gone for a walk in the pouring rain to get some milk despite me offering to drive there. Bonkers! I've got a roof of a bloody awkward size, so had to buy more of everything than I would have liked, I'm using corrugated manmade sheets with ridge pieces on top, unfortunately I will have to cut 5 of the sheets in half, I bet that will be an awkward job with a tenon saw, don't fancy trying the circular saw or the jig saw on what is giant crinkle cut chips. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 8, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2019 Good morning everyone Absolutely chuckinitdarn here, I was hoping to put my wetsuit on the washing line outside to dry off, but no chance today. So, as I’m not going swimming this morning, I’ll get a little bit more done in the cellar this morning instead, but I’ll knock off at dinner. As this evening we have Ava, Evie and Max coming round for tea and I have to decorate the cupcakes I made yesterday. As for getting power to a shed, or any out building for that matter, I’d ALWAYS run the cable underground wherever possible. The recommended depth is 18”, but deeper is always better. Mine is 24” deep, covered with sand and then with small sections of concrete (old edging) over that and finally by a warning yellow tape stating “electrical cables below”. As for the supply end, after the circuit breaker in the distribution board, it then goes to a separate RCD, then to the out going cable, which then goes under the floor, through the cellar and finally out next to the window. The only section that isn’t buried is the 18” from the house to the retaining wall for the garden. Back later. 18

Have a look at Silverstone at the end of July, three days of classics from various eras, lots of noise, smells, sliding, squealing and hopefully no total wrecks. Featuring this year 50 years of the Ford Capri, 60 years of the Mini and 100 years of Bentley. Who knows, you may even persuade Mrs Lurker to wear a minI! Actually we will be away then - but we are going back to Brands Hatch at the end of May, with the brother-and sister-in-law, and family, and dragging Elder Lurker, for something similar - the Masters Historic Festival, featuring Historic F1 cars, historic sports cars, pre 66 Touring cars and Gentlemen Drivers. The last makes me think of Leslie Phillips for some reason. Richard the roofing sheets aren't metal, this stuff. https://www.travisperkins.co.uk/Ariel-Coroline-Corrugated-Roofing-Sheet-Black-2m-x-950mm/p/893976 I did check the cutting specifications prior to sending the link. Te advertising blurb does say the cutter can be used for other materiel other than metal. Specifications: CUTTING THICKNESS - Cuts material up to 2mm thick. CUTTING SHAPES - Cuts corrugated, round, and complex shapes to a 12mm radius. 12 GAUGE - Copper, brass, aluminum. 14 GAUGE - Mild steel. 18 GAUGE - Stainless steel. OTHER MATERIAL - Fiberglass, plexiglass, wood, vinyl, laminate, plastic, gutters, tiles, flooring, frames, studs, pipes and many other materials. I also checked the Coroline thickness, which is 2.6 mm (I have it on my workshop roof) so the cutter would probably not have enough capacity in the jaw. (A touch with the metal cutting disc on the angle grinder would soon open the jaw up enough) I remember the PH and I cutting the sheets to size. We made a long fence for the table saw, cranked up the blade and ran it through. A nice straight cut resulted. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted May 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 8, 2019 Afternoon all, I have been duly chiropracted and on my regular scales at his establishment have discovered that my weight has increased by 0.9 kg - but I'm still below (just) 15 stone. Actually a gain of 0. 9 kg/just a whisker under 2 lbs isn't really all that bad after 14 days of cooked breakfasts (but I only had fried bread once), 12 days of two course cooked lunches, 14 x 4 course dinners, 14 x c.4 -5 glasses of wine with dinner, plus 14 days of afternoon tea with cake or biscuits and 12 days of morning tea with biscuits. In fact it's amazing I didn't put on even more although I did get plenty of fresh air and did a bit of walking round the deck. Anyway back to earth and today's brunch was tomato sarnies. the 'lawn' and other grass (but not all of it) was duly mown yesterday afternoon so that was a couple of hours well spent before today's rain. We are promised sunny intervals thos afternoon which presumably means rain with occasional sunshine, it duly trapped me in the car when I got back from Tesco as it was absolutely chuckinitdarn here at that time. As far as outdoor power supplies are concerned i would go for buried armoured cable every time - the cable I put in to the garage is at least 18 inches down surrounded by sand with bricks on tiop and some cable marking tape above them with one section under concrete as well, same for teh supply to the lamop post in the front garden which is under concrete. Very ER tomorrow as I'm off to visit a model railway somewhere to the north of Peterborough in the vicinity of a while know incline, should be interesting provided I remember to get up in time. Enjoy the rest of theh day if the rain allows.
