RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 10, 2019 Ey up! Sunny this morning up in the North West Leeds Highlands, but a tad cool. Car was collected yesterday..time to sell it methinks. I have to travel into the Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire this morning to turn Herculaneum Dock back into a set of crates up baseboards. Once completed I can come home and start another round of furniture moving. Plastering has been completed in one room. More to be done today. Best wishes to all who ail or are missing. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) Good morning all, The sun has made an appearance, a fine dry day is forecast and temperatures may even reach double figures. A small delivery from a timber merchant is expected today with materials to assist with the building of a temporary shelter for the shed contents. When finished with there will be other uses for it. Later on I may be required to ferry SiL Steve to collect his car which is being serviced today. As all trains are packed away there is nothing to play with at the moment and I am finding it difficult at times to find things to do. Just wondering aloud if it would be possible to set up the O gauge board in the conservatory.........no....stop it! There won't be enough room as some of stuff from the shed is going to have to go there. I will go and sit on the naughty step instead. Have a good one, N.O. Thingtodo. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 10, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, A terrible nights sleep, 4 hours of intermittant waking and trying to find a comfortable position followed by an hour and a half awake followed by 2 more intermittant hours on the sofa. Driving in I passed a new batch of roadworks signs, work starts tomorrow at the bottom of Stalham high street, the official diversion is a ten mile route via Happisburgh. Well I won't be doing that and neither will all the locals. One classic is the U turn sign they've put at a mini round about just short of the road works. that's at a 4 way very narrow junction with metal fences on the pavement. I couldn't do a U turn at it in the landrover , many larger cars couldn't, I'd love to see what happens with an Artic arriving tomorrow.. So it's also a good choice the new Tin Shed should arrive today as the 7 ton ridged body lorry should go through there.. Still waiting for news on the chinese system from the Boss, He has however done some work on the other major system, and I've got the Identical system to the chinese one running this morning. I'm hjust waiting for the release of the 4th major systme this morning.. Time too, wander down and give them a kick..
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 10, 2019 Good afternoon from OZ or good morning to the majority of ER'S. Beth is still suffering from Jet Lag and disturbed sleep patterns but I slept well last night. We went for a walk along the river and saw the Rod Laver arena. I got hit on the elbow by an Aussie woman who was going hell for leather along the same path on an electric assist bike. She came off but was OK and I helped her refit her saddle. Fortunately another passer by said that she was going well over the 10 kph limit and not using her bell. This afternoon Beth stayed in so I went out tram riding and ended up riding g one of the old W class ones round the city. I got off and visited the basement of Rick's Palace of attendance aka Hearns Hobbies. As Baz mentioned the prices are mouthwatering. I bought one of those little clip together metal models of a W class tram. Serious business of deciding where to eat tonight now. By the way I used to listen to Radio Caroline North from off the coast of Fraggle Rock, Jamie

I did have the extremely good fortune to observe life on a ship at first hand when in May 1967 I visited the MV Galaxy, home of Radio London, aka Big L. For a long time before and after that I yearned to work in radio and took unsuccessful voice tests for BFBS and BBC Radio Bristol before capitulating and getting a proper job. Later I joined Hospital Radio Bedford and served as programme controller for two years. Someone clearly thought I knew what I was talking about! A small consolation prize is that I got to meet a few DJs over the years. I met Kenny Everett at a party that I had gatecrashed, Pete Drummond when he was opening a shop in Edgware and Tony Windsor in a pub in Huntingdon of all places. The tale of how I met John Peel must be for another day. Chris Edited April 10, 2019 by chrisf another ruddy typo! 18
Popular Post Robert
My interest in Pirate Radio has more to do with the technology, and to a certain extent the mythology. I still marvel at the engineering required to run a multi-kilowatt broadcast transmitter on a relatively small ship or fort. I've never been involved in commercial radio. I was also fortunate enough to hear many stories about Pirate Radio from my father who worked in the Post Office's Radio Investigation Branch at the height of the Pirate Radio era. Funnily enough, once he retired from BT he went on to a second "career" in horticulture and for some years did a gardening programme on Radio Kent. He took great delight in exchanging yarns and tales of derring-do with some of the former Pirates. The pirate era certainly changed the face of radio, and who knows how things would have developed if Screaming Lord Sutch hadn't set up shop on Shivering Sands.
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 10, 2019 It’s another glorious sunny day here in the northwest. Breakfast has been consumed and I’ll shortly make a start on some more work in the cellar. I would normally go swimming on a Wednesday, but as it’s school holidays, the pool will full of kids, so I’ve decided to give it a miss. So, instead I intend to drill all the holes in the beams in the small cellar room, so that tomorrow, whilst Sheila is at her Zumba class, I can isolate the circuits I need and reroute the cables that were previously in plastic trunking that was originally fastened to the ceiling. Back later 18

Bob, I take it that SWMBO doesn't read this otherwise you'd be found something to do. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 10, 2019 Morning all. I was convinced earlier it was pouring with rain but I must have been dreaming as in fact it is sunny and dry out. I have a little list of domestic tasks to make the make the house tidy (it is already) and ready for our visitor. She is leaving Hull after lunch so I have plenty of time. This is the third time we have hosted this lecturer for the French Circle. Tony
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 10, 2019 Morning all, T Tea mug suitably recharged and the sun is shining outside although it is not exactly anything approaching warm. And all three bins had been emptied by 09.00, quite an amazing feat and I wonder if the upcoming council elections have anything to do with it or maybe Biffa's contract is up for renewal. Talking of the local election we had a bloke round canvassing yesterday evening - the Good Doctor had an amusing time advising said canvasser that we happen to have a candidate living here (for the same, apolitical, group) . Said more immediate candidate is clearly taking things seriously as he's canavassing over a much wider area although I'm not sure if Bucharest is in the same ward as us. And a little note about the pic I posted last night - neither Barrow nor Ravenglass are in the Thames Estuary and that wind farm is off the coast of Cumbria. The 'fort' is I believe a small accommodation platform for use by servicing crews. Have a good day one and all. 18
RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 10, 2019 My Granddaughter and I have a new game. We sit on the willow stumps behind Muddy Hollow (Forward) and face the road. When a car drives paced, we frantically wave and shout: 'We're Pixies!' Over an hour was spent doing this yesterday afternoon. Granddaughter is going to love this game when she comes to stay in a few weeks time. 16

RMweb Gold Popular Post Shedman5 Posted April 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) This news broke this morning be interesting to see what happens! The future of services on the West Coast Main Line has hit the buffers as the Government made a shock announcement that Virgin Trains' bid for the franchise due to be decided in June has been thrown out. The company which has run its Pendolino trains on the tracks through Lancashire since March 1997 has said it is shocked by the decision which the Department for Transport says is linked to problems with covering staff pensions under the company's current bid. Also it might be sunny but its 8c here which means I cannot garden as I have a rule of double fig temps need to be present before I venture into the world of horticulure this means time to play with objects that run on track in the shed! Enjoy the rest of your day Edited April 10, 2019 by Shedman5 9

No need for Stagecoach (or Virgin) to be shocked by the decision as they knew full well it was coming unless they agreed to underwrite the pension fund deficit (which makes me wonder about it having developed when they've held the franchise over the past 20 years and have taken away millions upon millions of £s). 10

Ian Abel
HUMP Day... Yesterday only notable event was shopping, and securing, the flooring we'll put in the basement of "the other house". Pick up Friday and may start laying it over the weekend... Meeting with a new insurance guy in a short while, hopefully better rates and service. Surprise, surprise, the current insurance folks are now all over us offering "special rates" since we've asked them for documentation of the current insurance (a sure signal that we're looking around!). Mrs will shop for provisions today in advance of the predicted storm. Already ominous looking western skies, winter weather advisory in effect. Given the time of year, with somewhat unpredictable winds and temperatures aloft in the right altitudes, still an extremely varied forecast. Expecting 6-10 inches of snow here between today and Friday afternoon, amounts will depend on conditions, some say it could be more! Predictably, we have tickets for our first Major League baseball game of the season on Saturday afternoon. -2 getting the newspaper, high of +2 forecast with rain/sleet/snow expected to start by mid-afternoon. Batten down the hatches if you're anywhere in the path of the mid-west storm, otherwise, carry on 5
