RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis woke me up at 3 this morning so it was a brace of paracetamols and I was soon back asleep. The rain is holding off and the sun is even shining this morning but its still blowing more than a bit. Terrible news from Christchurch, I can't even imagine how anyone could contemplate doing such a thing. 11

Goodnight all Can I suggest that for motors, you do a search on www.Banggood.com - they have a fair selection at very competitive prices, often no p&p, and the only problem is the wait for them to arrive from far away Edited March 15, 2019 by shortliner

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 Morning from a very windy Surrey. I had a strange dream that one of my brothers was driving our 24 year old car through a narrow gap between two parked cars and bashed the side in that now matches the dent on the other side (that really is there after a neighbour reversed into it last year). Hes never driven it and unlikely to. I suspect it will fail its MOT on an umber of points, the main one being the airbag dash board light. It may not see its 25th birthday if there is a lot to do. Will be a shame but with not working and we don't need three cars it may well be the best option to send it to the breakers in the sky. 18
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 15, 2019 Morning all, The more we delve into it the more convinced we are that the stage version of Gaslight we saw yesterday evening is considerably better than the film version with Ingrid Bergman, no wonder I didn't recognise it! I also forgot to mention the 'Miss Saigon' sound effects as a helicopter took off very near to the theatre and then flew over it, maybe Mr & Mrs Clooney were popping home for the weekend? Nasty job in Christchurch although it seems a bit odd that the alleged gunman was an Aussie. Have a good day one and all. 15
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2019 Well it's about an hour to go on a friday and the chinese system has been running for about 4 hours.. The New deputy Boss appears to be a bit clever with computers and soon sorted it out, having never seen the system before.. I think He's going to be useful.. It was chucking it down outside a short time ago, I hope it's dry ish when i get home as I have something 3X2 ft to load into the landrover. I've been studying things which join things that roll along parallel bits of metal, my favourite (dingham) is not available in a small size and I'm not liking what I see that is available. Much thought will have to go into this so I've ordered some springy wire to try some ideas out.. The weekly fire alarm test was a bit extended, It was a break glass panel not 6ft from me, he put the key in to test the unit, the glass dropped inside and didn't come back up when he took the key out. on taking the front off (alarm going all the time). there is a bit of plastic broken inside. Man from chubb ordered, meantime some sticky tape is doing it's stuff..
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 A new little helper drained my blood into suitable receptacles. She weighed me and wouldn't accept a 2kg loss ..she said it was 1.5kg. Pah. Still very windy here...apparently Homebase have removed 5 minute epoxy from their sale list. No one seems to know why. RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 Good afternoon and welcome to Friday. We shall be calling at Beer o'clock, Friday Drinks, Takeaway Food, Further drinks and terminating when we hit the buffers. I have probably missed some notable dates. I may have omitted to wish Neil a Happy Birthday in these portals though did so over on Facepalm despite its lengthy outage. I have been a mix of busy with preparing AGM paperwork, utterly frustrated at the performance of RMweb and the barrage of randomly-timed emails it now sends me (including six for a single "good night" post here timed as much as twelve hours apart) and under the influence of the roller-coaster of life generally. So far there has been no sighting of a dark canine but there has most definitely been a complete range of emotions often switching quite suddenly and without warning. As another weekend approaches I hope the worst effects can be headed off with a few post-work drinks with SWMBO followed by ..... what ever might follow. I don' really know. It is also St. Pat's weekend and there is a major egg-chasing event taking place tomorrow very nearby which means the Houses of Falling-Down Water are going to be extremely busy, noisy but with the possibility of some warm-hearted alcohol-based faux-friendship arising from anyone claiming any form of Irish within them. Sunday also marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of one of my dearest friends. She who left us aged just 28 one night while her partner was at sea fishing and came home to find a six year-old unable to wake his mother. I remain very good friends with the surviving twin sister and the rest of the immediate family. Drinks will be had. Hugs and support have been electronically communicated already. It's been a wild week weather wise too. In a sense that has echoed where I'm at since I am not always sure which way the wind is blowing nor how hard but it seems to be giving me a bumpy ride for the time being. The good news is that the cheque (really honestly definitely) is in the post settling my share of the late parent's estate and which will enable us to live debt-free owning a house in Australia while living and working here. And with some modelling and holiday tokens left over besides something for a rainy-day retirement fund. Here's hoping your weekend goes tolerably well. With best wishes and special thoughts to all our sick and absent family members. 15
RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 Afternoon all, Double glazing quotes so far seem to be in line with what we were expecting. The main difference in terms of quality seems to be a 30-year guarantee versus a 10-year guarantee. I'm not sure this will justify doubling the price. Not wishing to be funny but as we may well move within the next few years it'd seem we'd be paying for someone else's peace of mind. The chappie from the cheaper company seemed to know more about the subject, too. Knocked off a bit early today as the spreadsheet I was working on started to swim before my eyes. 3

Sometimes the guarantee is for the frames. The glazing units often have less. Is the 30 year guarantee an insurance product or just the window company? Mum had problems with a fantastic guarantee that was worthless with the company going bankrupt. Tony 12
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 Well the scaffolders returned and put things right and the roofer appeared and is happy with what they've done but it was too late for him to do much so he will "definitely be here Monday first thing without fail" (weather permitting!) Email received from shed suppliers confirming I will be getting the roof I asked for. Very pretty young lady from the RSPCA knocked on the door and tried to get me to sign up for their weekly lottery. Whilst I told her I am an animal lover and agreed that people who harmed them should have unpleasant things done to them she seemed a bit miffed because I wouldn't sign up on the spot. This was despite me telling her repeatedly that I never ever donate money to anyone whatsoever who asks for it particularly when it's on my own doorstep. Not ever! End of! I was very nearly very rude but managed to stop myself. (She was pretty after all!) Now on my second glass of Shiraz, there may be more to follow. 16 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 15, 2019 Odd day, bitty to the max. Bike club was busy, two birthdays and two welding anniversaries to celebrate there. Food shopping on a Friday afternoon was less fun. Awful events in Christchurch. While we don't see eye to eye with Mrs NHN's parents, they live there.....scary. An old school friend is also the vicar-general or something like that there, he'll be mighty busy. While I don't do religion Mark is exactly they sort of person you would want support from if you do. Reflecting on last week, calling into Lincoln on a whim, up by the Cathedral (which has a magnificent Willis organ - my reason for being there) is a new coffee shop, Little Mouse or something like that. It's also a cheese shop, selling such things that are made on their own farm, plus another local to them - highly, highly recommended if you like cheese! It was staffed by three young ladies who were polite, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, a breath of fresh air in the bored staff, chain-store reality of modern shopping. This helped make up for me slipping in the rain going up that bleeding great hill, and falling heavily and knackering a finger and leg! D'oh. 1
RMweb Premium AndyB Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2019 Tony. I'll be certain to look into the guarantees. I believe that it may actually be a separate product that you by as extended warranty. And in fact the two quotes we have so far are broadly comparable - apart from the price.

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) Belated congrats to NHN and Mrs NHN. Busy few days at work and more still to come which may involve some late night workshop sessions. I have a day off tomorrow and it should have been the proper season opening "Captain's Drive In" but it has been postponed due to the recent wet weather and potentially bad forecast to come as well. I have missed only 1 drive in in 25 years and now likely to be two as it has been rescheduled for next Saturday as I will be working at a large Palace named after a Queen that is located on a large hill in North London. Have a good day of Saturn folks - mine may now include a lie-in. Cheers, Mick Edited March 15, 2019 by newbryford 16 1
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2019 Evening Awl, the wind is lower than forecast and their promise of more precipitation has failed. So the rebuilt 3x2ft is in the landrover and the next one is roughly in position. For some reason the camera on this thing refused to boot up while at the MRC but now it has. Annoying because my record of progress now has a hole. I made like Mr Beeching and drastically reduced the number of parallel bits of metal. Time for bed said Zebedee..

They were some sort of vegetable-based plastic. 3 3 7

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 15, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2019 Good evening everyone We did deed spend more time at the Trafford Centre than would have been the case had I gone on my own. However, I did come a way with a Mother’s Day gift for Sheila, so it was productive. When I got to the butchers they hadn’t got any pasties left , so I had to make do with an chicken, ham and leek pie instead, ooh it’s a hard life! This afternoon was spent reading and getting the food ready for when James and Amelia came round for tea. Tonight for a change we had chips, baked beans and burger, the burger was done in our George Formby Grill and yes, they did turn out nice again! Once James and Amelia had gone home, we did a quick bit of tidying up and then sat down and opened a bottle of Malbec, which definitely hit the spot. Goodnight all
