RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 10, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 10, 2019 Busy day at work, with a POE for a long-promised trip to Sheffield with Junior NB. Target venue: ice Sheffield to see the last but one away game of the Blackburn Hawks season against Sutton Sting. Just over a 6 hour round trip including watching the game was not a bad use of the evening - and that included a significantly reduced speed over the M62 with high winds and sleet, going on for snow on the return. A solid 6-2 win for the Hawks guarantees a finish above Sutton with only 2 games left. There is a faint possibility that they may gain one more place, but that depends upon two wins from the last two games and the other team losing both - one of those games is home to Blackburn next weekend...... Tomorrow is a consultant visit to see if my sciatica medication can be changed from 10-12 tablets per day into something less "repeatable". Then it's busy busy with a project for BRM Alexandra Place in less than two weeks. Have a good week folks. Cheers, Mick 12
RMweb Gold Popular Post SouthernRegionSteam Posted March 10, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2019 I don't know where the time goes, but it sure does fly by doesn't it! Apologies for my absence, the past couple weeks has been busy, not least with entertaining family visitors during half-term. My mum is still off with stress, and is using her union as much as possible; not least because the school aren't backing down and are denying anything was done formally... Meanwhile, we are still dealing with my grandparents estate; sadly most of the furniture has had to be disposed of due to it being in poor condition (with also evidence of woodworm in some), which, whilst quite hard to do initially, it has also been a form of release. Letting go of some things is always hard, but the important thing for us was to keep tangible things like photos and the odd keepsake, rather than keep large old bits of worn furniture. I still don't think it has truly set in that they're gone, but I think the realisation is slowly growing as we remove more and more of their possessions. What will happen to the estate is anyone's guess at the current moment; there are too many options and restrictions to consider before we all make a decision on the future. It's certainly a long, drawn-out process! Not much else to report, although I'd love to get some mode***ng done this week; a couple deadlines are looming, and I'd love to see more tangible progress on the layout. I also need to get on and produce a banner and make other preparations for our model exhibition in early May. So, all in all, a lot going on at the moment! Best wishes to one and all. 7
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2019 Good evening everyone Well I spent a good few hours in the workshop, tinkering with a few bits and pieces, tidying up but absolutely nothing of note done at all. This evening I’ve spent a couple of hours with pen and paper altering a circuit diagram so that I can fit 2 servo drivers on to a single board. It was a bit fiddly, but I finally got there in the end. Goodnight all

I was then daft enough to do some Templot wrestling this evening so I now feel yuk again and it's back to mainlining Lemsip etc. Night night everyone; sleep tight. Ozexpatriate
This afternoon brings the long dark teatime of the soul, prolonged by the onset of daylight saving time, and mocked by this glorious sun of Mars' month. It is a beautiful sunny day. It's brilliance has tormented me since it awoke me as I have procrastinated all day on some work left over from Friday. I watched golf. I corrected wristwatches and most of the clocks. I paid bills. I downloaded photographs from an evening out with my son last night. I caught up on the doings of Early Risers. I now write this with nothing else to keep me from my appointed rounds, even though it is now fast approaching dinner o'clock - unnaturally early of course due to said onset of daylight saving time. It's not even that the work is laborious. (Is that supposed to have a "u"? I can't tell any more - it didn't look right with one, in the same way that "labour" still does despite the red, squiggly underlining courtesy of the US English spell checker.) I shall have to gird myself to the task, even though I am suddenly feeling muscle aches sitting in my office chair in some unconscious plea to go sit on the sofa. Some people asked about features of the post editor with the new software. I had thought that while there are some editing capabilities introduced by the post editor (like bulleted and numeric lists which are all implemented using HTML tags), default line spacing, and paragraph line wrapping, much of the base editing functionality (like spell checking) is not a function of forum software, but of the chosen browser and other default settings of the machine itself. I have never noticed any automatic capitalization of paragraphs in RMweb posts. Edited March 11, 2019 by Ozexpatriate
RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2019 I have ignored the Fire Department's suggestion to change the batteries in my smoke detectors with the change to/from Daylight "Saving" Time. With the alteration a few years ago, we now have 4 months of real time and 8 months of the other. Seems like a waste of battery, especially as ours are also hard-wired to the mains. I do have a use for not depleted 9V batteries: a garage lighting unit that also mimics a welding unit. I don't get notification of opinions on my posts anymore. Is there a setting for this? 12 3

Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all It hardly seems a week since I was climbing aboard a Piccadilly line train at Heathrow T5 bound for breakfast at St Pancras, coughing most of the way. The chest infection seems determined to stay and is taking quite a lot out of me. Much catching up remains to be done and the ironing yesterday took two and a half hours. Monkeysarefun, I am really looking forward to telling you and others about the Ghan but it will be a few days yet before I will be ready. Apart from a visit to Poorly Pal tomorrow there is little in the diary for the next few days - just as well, really. There are still aches and pains to be soaked away so that's next. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner temple Hare, A good nights sleep of about 5 hours + one on the sofa, I really didn't want to get up though. The wind is still howling around, and with clear skies it was very chilly during Ben the Border Coliies patrol. The radiowomble reported the was a short blizzard when he came in to work (03:50) and the gritters were out. I've seen no sign of either as I now sit here, a couple of miles away Norfolk radios offices. I awoke with backache which is odd as this weekend no real physical activity was carried out. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2019 Good morning everyone The sun is shining and the winds have died down. I was awoken a couple of times with heavy rain lashing the bedroom window, it’s all quite now though, thank goodness. Today I will be finish off the cellar lights and sockets at Vickie and Ian’s house. I did the first fix a couple of years ago, one room was finished shortly afterwards, but the second room stalled, but he’s finally ready for final fixing. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 11, 2019 Morning all from a bright and sunny village. I have now had 3 days without having done anything wrong, however she who usually points out my usual sins of omission and commission is due to get home at lunchtime so I strongly suspect that my status will change. However I have had a good three days. I had a good natter with my brother, over 40 minutes. We talked about all and sundry and I found out about two new things. The first is that my eldest nephew, who lives in Norway, is part owner of a craft brewery near Oslo. One of these days I will have to try and sample the products. Apparently he and 7 friends were so appalled with the lack of good beer that they set up their own business and are doing well. The other thing was John telling me how he once spent a night navigating a 747 from Aukland to Fiji, using star sights taken via a periscope from the cockpit. He also told me about one flight engineer who had made his own improvised vacuum cleaner using the pressurised airlock. Thus then enabled them to keep the cockpit floor clean on long flights. I had a couple of hours in the shed testing and repairing then spent the afternoon and early evening trainspotting near Ruffec. A curry finished off a good day. Today after a few admin tasks my main task will be to have a bonfire of garden rubbish that has accumulated over the winter. It needs to be done before the end of March and rain is due for the next couple of days so I will take advantage of lack of wind and rain and get on with it. Regards to all. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 11, 2019 Good morning all, A fresh start to the day here and it should be a bright day with sunny spells and the chance of one or two showers. 8 hours ago, Dave Hunt said: Was that minor surgery to you or to the model Bob? Model. Not quite enough room to run decoder wires. No Bobs were harmed in the process. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 11, 2019 Morning all, And yet agin the 'clear editor' button has had to creep back into use for no apparent reason. But it's bright and sunny outside with a bit of a breeze but herself has just put the washing out - a major change from yesterday evening when yet again we were assailed by torrential rain and had the second hailstorm of the day plus thunder, along with gale force gusts of course. So not only are the March winds on time but the April showers are running early. Biggest task at present is trying to get into telephonic contact with the surgery - the have been perpetually engaged for the last 47 minutes and ring back appears to be totally ineffective - must be the Monday morning blues or something. maybe we should go back to the old method if you want something done medically (it's booking a blood test for me) you have to turn up, take a number, and wait your turn? Ah well RMweb is here to entertain (some threads on here are hilarious, as Bob 81C also knows) and inform (many threads do that of course) so I'll wander off looking round. Have a good day one and all. 16 1
tigerburnie
Morning, we are frost and rain/snaw free this am, not much of a breeze either, I need to have a reccy round the village as we have the A1 "Tornado" passing through the village on Thursday and returning later, need to get some nice photographs. With rain and winds forecast I will probably be sat in my car with the window wound down, I had planned to be travelling on the train, but not fit enough for the drive to Edinburgh yet. 6

RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted March 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2019 Bright and breezy this morning in North Salopshire with no sign of the ice and snow that was threatened. I'm still full of yuk but am doing my best to plough on regardless, helped by Mug O'Coffee No. 2 after a long hot shower. Various admin duties call but I also hope to get a bit of quality shed time in as the bookcase business of the last few days has apparently earned me some unexpected brownie points and I might as well use them. I hope that everyone has a good day if at all possible and my thoughts are with those who can't. Best wishes also to Jamie for a smooth transition back to wedded bliss after three days of bachelordom. Cheers People. Dave

Popular Post andyram
Good morning one and all. You may, or may not, have noticed that I have been missing from these pages for quite sometime. My apologies for anything I have missed. I am somewhat behind with the ER's news. Please accept my generic greetings, good wishes, congrats and commiserations as appropriate. Life has been very hectic recently which has limited my time online. The online marking has gone crazy and I have had to spend much of my time tackling the multitude of assignments that have been landing in my inbox. This has meant working on it in the shop and at home. On the subject of the shop, things have been steady. Unfortunately the succession of challenges relating to the online fraudster have now about run their course and the total losses can be identified. It is severe enough to make things extremely tight for a while and it has caused more than a couple of sleepless nights. Hopefully, now the full extent of the losses are known I can further contact the fraud squad and the insurance company in hope I can recover some of the money. In the meantime I have to try and pay the bills. Hopefully sales will remain steady to allow me to do that. Last month I attended my first exhibition as a trader. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and more days like that will make a huge difference to the business. I have a couple more invites - Belper (end of March) and Cotgrave (early April) and I am looking forward to those. There are some positives I can talk about. On Saturday I am out for the day on a steam hauled rail tour from Crewe to Carlisle and return. The steam hauled section looks set to be with 45690 "Leander" - my favourite locomotive and the one that triggered my lifelong interest in steam railways. The tour was a gift from the parents at a certain school when I left. It has taken a while to sort it out, but it will be a gift that I am truly grateful for. In the past week, I received a telephone call to confirm that I have accepted as a team member on a certain Channel 5 show. Filming will take place in the summer. That is all I am allowed to say on the subject. Hopefully I can check in again soon. Best wishes Andy 27
