RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted February 23, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 23, 2019 (edited) My brother gave me (in 2012) a bottle of the 2012 Penderyn Grand Slam whisky. We agreed to drink it when the next Grand Slam would be available for sale. I've dusted the box off today, just on the off chance. Next move, apart from keeping my fumble fingers crossed, is to get some tickets for the 'friendly' on 17th August. Not only is this a warm up for Wales, but also for the Obergrumpenfuhrer and I who have tickets for two of Wales's WRC pool matches in Japan Edited February 23, 2019 by Happy Hippo selingpl

I should think that'll stay in, but if the screws loose or anything they may change that. My screws were always going to come out as they did say they would begin to cause issues, unfortunately one screw was already broken so it is still in there, deep, deep down so too difficult to get out. They wouldn't let me keep the bits either, rotters. Thanks Neil. Oddly enough I'm not in any pain at all. I'm only taking a few Paracetamol (equivalents) and I'm not sure I really need them either. I think it's because the plate is doing a really good job of stabilizing my wrist. Obviously I better not get too confident Cheers, Andy

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted February 23, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 23, 2019 Evening all We took advantage of warm sunny weather today and christened SWMBO’s new tricycle. It has been many years since she last pedalled her way along trafficked streets, has never done so in London nor on three wheels which requires a different technique to two. So with me on two wheels at the rear acting as guide, shadow and shield we set about the short distance to the G-word shop at Twickenham Green. We returned laden with pots, compost and other goodies making full use of the trike’s front and rear baskets. The trip was pronounced a success and she hopes to develop confidence and road skills to get farther afield before long. A surprising twist to the afternoon here. SWMBO dozed in front of the idiot-box (not surprising, quite normal) allowing me to take my leave and join Neighbours (Upstairs) watching the rug y in a pub. Former Neighbour is up visiting for the weekend and, being Welsh, was passionately cheering her team on. Current Neighbour being quite English was wearing the white jersey. I chose my Cornwall Home colours of black and gold. I could happily have stayed longer as the drinks flowed and the cheers rose. Having told SWMBO that I was going for a walk it felt dishonest to not get home and make dinner! We all agreed that we would be happy to do drinks again and so it shall be. Definitely a better day all round Upon the Hill of Strawberries. And a famous hard-won victory was witnessed despite my more usual disinterest in the egg-chasing sport. G’night all. And hopefully good sleep with it. 19

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted February 23, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 23, 2019 Good evening everyone Well the weather has been absolutely glorious, lovely warm and sunny all day, in fact, it’s been so warm that I took of my jumper and was down to tee shirt and trousers for most of the day. A fair bit of progress has been made on the test plank. I decided before I started that I would use live frog points and that I would make the frog switchable too! So the necessary alterations were made to each point and the frog wiring was extended, I’ve also decided to make the points and the frog switch simultaneously. So far all the point work is in place and I’ve also put in the control rods for the points. These will be connected to some slide switches which I’ve had in my “that’ll come in handy one day” box. Tomorrow I’m hoping to get the switches in place and wired up, then the rest of the track can be laid. Tonight’s tea was a very quick affair, I raided the freezer yesterday and took out a vegetable lasagne that I made a couple of weeks ago once thawed all I had to do was make a cheese sauce to go with it and put it all in the oven. We also finished off the cheesecake I that I’d made on Tuesday. The evening was then rounded off by catching up on some recorded TV with a bottle of Merlot. Neil, thanks for the tracksetta info, I realised when I got them out of the box that they aren’t an exact match for set track. However, as I don’t intend to use set track on my layout anyway, I’ll use the two that are closest to both 2nd and 3rd radius. Goodnight all 17

They wouldn't let me keep the bits either, rotters. I too am a member of the bionic meccano man brigade, in my case the left foot that was heavily rebuilt about four years ago. The surgeon said that I could have the screws and bits taken out eventually if I wanted but there was so much stuff in there that it would be quite a prolonged procedure and unless it was really bugging me he recommended leaving well alone. When I went for a check-up last year the x-rays showed that one of the screws had come loose but he said that it wouldn't cause any trouble so we've left it alone. The only downside is that my feet are now of different widths so buying shoes is a pain in the butt, or, rather, foot if I get it wrong. Since I also have two false knees and a replacement hip (my eldest son says that if any more bits are replaced I'll qualify as the first independent android) getting through airport security can involve setting out the day before the flight departs to leave enough time for the scanning process. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) Morning all, What can I say apart from well done Wales. Am I disappointed - Yes! Am I surprised - No! I've watched England shoot themselves in the foot so many times over the past umpteen years and that is why I'm never surprised and never bet on the result. After that disaster we went to a really great party and although I've never been to Jamaica I think that it was as near as I'm likely to get. They are a lovely family with a fantastic circle of friends and we were made so welcome and did not want to leave. I was sensible and only had a sip of the rum punch and a couple of other rum based concoctions and have survived to tell the tale. Current earworm is "Don't worry 'bout a thing". I suspect that it will be a while before that disappears. Night all. Edited February 24, 2019 by grandadbob 21

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 24, 2019 Mooring Awl, 6.5 hours solid sleep, Just a little nagging pain left after yesterday's exertions. Off to the moorings later, not much wind forecast, but low / no tide for the start of the first race, so that will help. Talking of low tide , yesterday was the lowest I've ever seen on our beach, a sand bar appeared that I've not seen before.. Time to hit the snooze button...
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 24, 2019 Morning to all and sundry and evening to some. Yesterday I got 2 mortices done in between other tasks. The new fridge/freezer was delivered and today we will be swapping contents over. Some Rugby was watched but then our dinner guests arrived and at that point England were leading. A lovely meal was then produced by the Ayatollah. A selection of pate's with home made chutney plus bread and salad as a starter, Pork Fillet done in a cream and wholegrain mustard sauce as a main then plum crumble with plums from our garden. Much of the local red wine was quaffed and much good conversation had. After they left Beth and I lifted a glass of the 40 yr old cognac in memory of her dad. Some more flowers arrived via Chronopost (The local equivalent of parcelfarce) ordered by a friend from the UK. Rachel and Laura are celebrating their anniversary in Northumberland and Rachel now has just over 11 weeks to go till bump arrives. We will be off to the market shortly then there is some washing up to put away, apart from that a lazy day is forecast. I will probably end up in the shed using a hammer and chisel. John, commiserations on your loss, the photos were lovely and Happy Birthday to Jim. Regards to all. Jamie 19
RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 24, 2019 Welll, the one good thing about yesterday's disaster is that whilst watching the game my lurgy symptoms seemed to recede a bit. I suppose that the same thing happened to people on the Titanic. However, this morning, which is fisty and moggy here in top end Salopshire, the lurgyitis seems a little less debilitating and since SWMBO is off to Derbyshire with a friend to visit No. 1 son and offspring for the day I may even get in some workshop time. Once I've had got a couple of sudafed inside me to dull the headache a bit and spent some time with Mug O'Coffee that is. Of course, if I admit to feeling a bit better there is the distinct possibility that some domestic duties may be found to occupy my time but since the hacking cough is still apparent I may get away with it. Of course, I still have the gloating of Welsh friends to look forward to...... Cheers everyone and have a good day. Dave 5

After that, we are going to Eastbourne marina for a curry with the in-laws which will be good. And so goes another weekend! What is it about these two days of the week that go far quicker than any one of the preceding five?

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2019 Morning all. We had a very pleasant afternoon in Enfield. The nieces took it in turns to defeat me at some pattern recognition puzzle game. At least the 3 year old didn’t exhibit signs of triumphalism. The traffic was flowing nicely in both directions and it was fog free. Tony
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 24, 2019 Morning all. Another beautifully sunny one upon the Hill. I was woken with a call of “Breakfast” accompanied by aromas which suggested this was an offer of and not a request for. It was also unexpected. I invariably cook Sunday breakfast. I was presented with eggs baked in a tomato and onion sauce with toasted nutty brown bread and a lovely strong muggertee. This is new. What have I done? A welcome development I must say. She has now retired to the study for the morning leaving me to chill on the sofa with Eric Bibb singing quietly to me from the music device. The G-word has been mentioned for after lunch and a cluckbird has been acquired for sacrifice tonight along with a libation of chardonnay. Enjoy Sunnyday if you can.
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 24, 2019 Good morning all, (Again) Lovely sunny day here and it should stay like that with temperatures rising to 15°C Just enjoyed a late breakfast and am now pondering what to do today. I may venture out into the garden and cut the grass and do some other gardening stuff. I do have an appointment with my armchair at 3.00PM to watch rugby and expect to see Ireland win in Italy. Have a good one, Bob.
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted February 24, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 24, 2019 Good morning everyone Another sunny day here in the northwest, currently 10C but it’ll no doubt get warmer as the day progresses. Once again an lie-in and breakfast in bed, it would make more sense if we used bowls! Once I’ve finished muggertea No2 I’m off to the workshop, I may be some time. Back later
