DonBradley
Good morning all. The heat wave continues! It's only 28 today, a relief from the 37 we had last week, but still TOO HOT. Humid and sticky too. Have a good weekend ll.
RMweb Gold BoD Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2011 Morning all The weekend has arrived at last. It's grey and miserable outside though. Here's hoping that backs, hips, high temperatures, essays and other miscellaneous trials and tribulations don't cause too much trouble this weekend. Have a good one whatever you are doing. Don. Gordon. It's Saturday.
RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2011 Morning all, it is cold out there but a trip to Carlisle is todays task I'm happy that the zafira mpg is almost exactly double that of the Volvo.
gordon s
Morning all.... Inch and a quarter cork roll has just arrived. Eight octagonal boards will be complete today from a carpentry perspective. Just need to ensure they join together in a circle, so it will be bolts and alignment dowels, then cork and finally track and wiring. That's my weekend sorted then. I wonder what Mrs S has on her list for me? Nothing is forthcoming yet, so fingers crossed....
RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2011 I'm glad to hear that you are planning work on the layout Gordon don't overdo it though, we can wait a bit longer for an update if we have to.
gordon s
Thank for your concern, Mick. Most of the work is sitting down and the first sign of any problems and work stops. So far I have stuff all over the dining room, kitchen and utility room. I can feel a yellow card coming on, so need to tread carefully....
Robert
Morning All, It is another lovely Spring day here today. I decided to have a lay in and now the smell of freshly baked bread rolls is permeating the house. I feel some gardening coming on later. The garden currently looks like a war zone. Have a good day everyone...
DDolfelin
Garden: Yesterday SWMBO and I bought a HUGE packet of specialist Lily bulbs. Expensive but these are quite rare - exceedingly - when the packet was opened there were two.
Guest Max Stafford
Morning all, it is cold out there but a trip to Carlisle is todays task I'm happy that the zafira mpg is almost exactly double that of the Volvo. You'll not be needing the Victor tanker as you pass through Cheshire this time then, Mick...! I must apologise for my lack of posting this week, mainly due to the shift pattern I've been working. I've been putting an hour or two in at the bench when I get in at night though, so I've built the four wagon kits|I bought at Glasgow last week, which I feel qualifies as both a speed and production record! Full English overcast here today and a little damp with it, but there are signs of brightening, so it might not be too bad by the time Mick arrives. Had a visit from 'Chard yesterday before I had to go to work and we had a good laugh and a brew. Good to meet fellow forumers in person. Dave. Dave. sixoh8sixoh
Morning all! Missed posting yesterday but was keeping up! Looking forward to a lie-in tomorrow, will be my first in a while. Was up early yesterday on my day off work and again today. Have bathed the little one this morning, so at least she's clean! Looks like a trip to the garden centre is on the cards for today, SWMBO wants an indoor plant with red leaves for her lounge. I'm not sure there is such a thing, but she will rarely be told... Tomorrow I'm hoping to spend some time tidying my flat and hopefully also will fit kadees to my remaining 4 GNER mk3 coaches to complete my HST rake. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2011 Morning all. Rather cloudy and cold here. The garden looks very pretty with Spring flowers. Lots of tits and finches, but I haven't seen the pair of blackbirds that nest here yet. Dd. Has the lily beetle problem reached as far as N Wales yet? They got to Essex years ago. I suppose I should go and replace the fog lamp on the Clio. Tony
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2011 Mike. Red leaves! I can think of coleus but they are not entirely red. We have canna (hope that is the correct spelling) but they are outdoor (well they are this far south) summer things that die back to bulbs. Do let us know if you find anything or if you have to resort to airbrushing a lily. Tony

DDolfelin
Yes, they were breeding expensive. The Lily beetle has definitely reached Wales. At these prices, I'll be standing over them with the shotgun. How about scratch-building some red-leaved plants?
sixoh8sixoh
Thanks, I have attempted to explain the colour of leaves coming from chlorophyll...! May have to get the airbrush out.
DDolfelin
Coleus (sp?) has red leaves (sometimes). Poinsettia at times. Most of the trees here during the Autumn.
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2011 Morning All I too have been a bit lacking in my posting presence recently, again because of my shift pattern - I'm on a break at work now, and am stuck here til 6.00 tonight. The consolation is that I have drawn two days off on the trot next week (Fri/Sat), so with a day's leave, my Friday will happen on Wednesday, so I can nip off to Richard's Train Shop on Thursday to pick up a rake of Hornby Staniers to hang onto the back of the Patriot - blimey they're dear at about £33 each - six will cost more than a couple of locos! Regards to All Stewart
DDolfelin
That is expensive. Is it worth looking here, for example? (No axe to grind - I've left it elsewhere). My link
RMweb Gold BoD Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2011 How about a red seaweed....... although she may object to having to flood the lounge twice a day. I'm sure that if you go to somewhere like B & KEA Base you could get a plasic effort in red. Some of them almost manage to look like fake plants. RMweb Gold SouthernRegionSteam Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2011 Just asked my mum about the red leafed plants. She thought of:- Rex Begonia - Iresine [sp?] - Cryptanthus Bivittatus - Polka-dot plant (Hypoestes phyllostachya) Any good?
DDolfelin
Not without a recipe.
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2011 Not without a recipe. I was just looking at the ones suggested by Jam's mother and one of them (according to Wikiwotsit) is used an an additive to hallucinogenic drinks. I suppose that would be an additive to something like coffee? When Matthew was little my wife cleared the house and garden of any plant allegedly toxic but Matthew never even attempted to eat anything like that. Even though Aditi was less enthusiastic about having the dog she did clear out the plants toxic to dogs, as when he was a puppy, Robbie tried tasting everything in the garden but never the houseplants. RMweb Premium 45156 Posted March 5, 2011 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2011 That is expensive. Is it worth looking here, for example? (No axe to grind - I've left it elsewhere). My link Thanks DD - I checked there before ordering with Richard - they were quoting £32.00 for the BSK and SK, and £34.00 for the FK, including the postage so there wasn't a lot to choose between them. The Hornby RRP for these is nearly £40.00 each. When I buy, they'll be unboxed, checked, and tested on the shop test track to make sure that there's no binding of the wheels or bogies, and I think that it worth the extra. Richard is not quite as cheap as the box shifters, but his quality control and service make him the better option in my opinion. DDolfelin
Not much in it then - and service is worth a great deal.
gordon s
One small step for man..... That's it, I've gone full circle.... All those years modelling and I've ended up with a circle of track laid on the carpet....
