RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 Afternoon Awl, Much battening done, I pushed on too long and made an error, it won't affect it in use nor will it be spotted by most people, but it is annoying. So at that, I gave up, and then just painted the layout carriage 3 a first coat of HR ish olive green. Further battening to be done tomorrow, but first I've just remembered I've not put a packet of screws in the landrover to attach layout to carriage at the MRC tonight. Ben the Border Collie has been walked and is asleep at my feet.. I think I'll join him..... In the sleeping that is....
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 Only bad drivers spin wheels and as for wasting money putting Webbers on a heap of #### you would need your head tested or be a member of the Barry Boys. . About 40 years ago one of our departmental heads* had just passed his test. So he went out and bought his first car, a bog standard Mk. III 1300 Escort to which he added fancy wheels, go faster stripes and an aerofoil. Having done that he came into office complaining that he couldn't get the rear wheels to spin. Before anyone explained to him that the car was front wheel drive I suggested he take it back to the dealer to have it checked out. A few days later he came back and told us that the dealer had checked it and couldn't find anything wrong and had charged him £25 for the priviledge. *Pronounced 'de part mental heads'.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 Just been checking my e-mails. A couple more spams today, both from the same people and both claiming that the credit cards used on my Amazon account have been rejected. The thing is I don't have an Amazon account and in all such transactions I use Paypal.

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 I did have a quick look at that thread and was mildly amused at the person who thought perhaps Mike Stationmaster needed to get out more and look at the modern railway. He does, I have a photo taken from a platform end at Paddington while Mike as standing alongside me 8 days ago. I jut haven't uploaded it yet. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 28, 2018 Good evening from a cool corner of the Charente. We are back home after a very enjoyable but tiring 12 days away. We have had a lovely time and even had all three of our kids, plus partners in one room for a couple of hours without arguments. That counts as a minor miracle. We saw Rachel three days running and much forthcoming baby talk took place, especially amongst the females. We set off back abut 12.15 yesterday. Our first call was near Kettering to drop of an album of photographs relating to a WW1 dreadnought. I had had the nearly completed hull plug (ready for casting in fibreglass) in the loft for well over 25 years and sold it on Ebay. I later found some of my research material and took it with me to give to the purchaser on our way home. It was great to meet him again and to hear that he plans to have the hull cast in the new year and that a former ship modelling friend is also going to get a copy of the hull. I look forward to seeing photos of the model taking shape in due course. The journey from Kettering to Portsmouth was slow due to very heavy traffic in many places. We got on board ship in good time, had a pleasant crossing. They seem to have repaired the potholes that our ship found on the way over. The drive home was pleasant with a mixture of mist and sun. The car is unpacked, the house warmed up. Some good friends and neighbours had been in and lit the fire for us. Dinner is now being prepared after a glass of Pineau and some eyelid inspection. Regards to all. Jamie
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 for those that missed it... Ivan asked a question on an entirely different forum and was banned due to that and other run ins on here. Sounds simple doesn't it???? Baz
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2018 He does, I have a photo taken from a platform end at Paddington while Mike as standing alongside me 8 days ago. I jut haven't uploaded it yet. Jamie The amusing thing is that on that particular day I actually saw a family (mum & dad + two small children) travelling on our local branchline and coincidentally on the same train as me both in the morning and afternoon - the children were both too young to require tickets to be bought for them. The only other time this month when I have seen family groups on a train was on the Mid Hants yesterday. Tesco was duly visited and was considerably busier than yesterday but we did obtain some essentials (leeks, a cabbage, and cat food) without too much bother and only a very short queue at the checkout/. we didn't check for Easter Eggs on the shelves but no doubt they are lurking somewhere on the premises.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 Evening. Old farts bike club was lively this morning, un-Christmassing I think. Then errands run, double trip to the Pharmacy as they had run out of a required item, then on the second visit only to find the usual dose is unavailable and have to double up on half dose - Br*xit-itis already? Poor show if you ask me. The O gauge EE 350hp shunter (too early to be an 08!) has taken up residence in the lounge with a wagon on Mrs NHN's suggestion. Impressed! Mulling inglenooks now.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 Evening all. The cold from Hell continues. I can barely see, have trouble not coughing and when I can stop coughing I sneeze. You’re welcome. Thank you. And the 2001 Kia Rio remains the best car we ever had. It’s still running. BiL (Aussie) keeps it as a good spare.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 28, 2018 This journey on Amtrak is feeling a bitl ike being at home. A mile outside we came to a stop. The PTC was giving grief in the cab car. After an hours and numerous attempts to reslove we went back to San Diego station and swapped to a different set. That took nearly an hour to do so now over tow hours late and aq combined train as the later one has been cancelled. Standing room only but at least we have seats. No lost our path and getting later with the next Amtrak service catching us up. Luckily no tight connections today but may now mean a change of plan and bail at Oxnard ot wait the Metrolink service to Ventura East. Only down side is that we will have all our bags with us on the bus from there to the first pub stop off. Apparently PTC is causing a lot of problems around here at the moment. At least the café car has tea bags this time. Staying off the large bottles of Stone beers today.
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 Evening Awl, Just back from the MRC where two layout carriages were delivered successfully, Shield your eyes, you're not supposed to see something mounted on Top of one. We had a surprisingly good turn out. Once the layout was installed properly, I made like general Wade, and built some roads, well the foundations of some anyway. Since most highland roads have a ditch either side some building up is required. Time to finish my choccy, good night Awl.

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted December 28, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2018 Good evening everyone Well today’s trip to the Trafford Centre was uneventful and successful, surprisingly it wasn’t quite as busy as I’d expected it to be. I managed to get everything that was on the shopping list and get home from the butchers before 11:20. I then made myself a muggertea and drank that as I put the shopping away. I then put the cake in the oven that I’d started last night and as it takes 90 minutes to bake, it meant that the kitchen had a lovely seasonal aroma whilst we both sat and ate dinner. After dinner I read the magazine I purchased this morning at WHS, an American publication called “FineScale Modeler” which I occasionally pick up when there is an article in it that I find interesting. I know you’re all wondering what that is, it was an article on building, painting and rigging WWI aircraft, an interesting subject in its self. Tomorrow I’ll start to take down all the Christmas decorations, hopefully it will all have been done by teatime. Goodnight all

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 29, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 29, 2018 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Here, 6.5 hours sleep in two bits, I was really comfortable no back pain and didn't want to move, but Ben the border collie was insistent. It's mild out there, with broken cloud, and a hint of dawn. The trailer needs putting away, then the layout carriage 3 should be finished today except for a final coat of paint. Time for some porridge....

RMweb Gold BoD Posted December 29, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2018 anyone seen BoD??? Baz I'm fine thanks, Baz. I'm just not spending as much time on here as I used too. I should though, as it takes longer to catch up. Thoughts remain with John and his good lady. I drive a foreign car built just five miles up the road. (See how far behind I am with postings?) Yep, bring back Ivan.

Breakfast has been had and coffee is being drunk. We are off to the Soldes,(Sales)this morning looking for a larger TV apparently. I will have to get the Volvo out of the shed in case we find one. There is a long list of jobs being mentioned but things will get done as and when. Thoughts very much with John and Sandy. Regards to all. Simon G
Morning from a mild West Cumbria. Yesterday saw the annual memorial rugby match between St Bees School old boys and Egremont. It was 0-0 for three quarters of the game, but ended 17-12 to St Bees, the first time they have won the fixture. No 2 son as organiser and captain of St Bees was duly delighted. He did give us a major scare when he had to be carried off at one point, and we feared his ankle had gone (he had a major dislocation in the summer), but fortunately it was just cramp! For me it was a chance to catch up with a load of old friends and former work colleagues, as well as a couple of the Egremont players who I used to coach 15 years ago. Along with a couple of pints of Loweswater Gold, it made for a great afternoon.
