There is I believe a biblical reference in the tale of the prodigal son of him being employed as a swineherd.

Jamie

I had thought of swineherd too - and then I remembered shepherd, and you don't have a herd of sheep. Or shep.

Maybe historically herd was used for sheep too

EDIT - yes according to Wikipedia, herd as well as flock, along with drove, hurtle and pack. I have never come across the word hurtle in this context

Wet and windy hereabouts, some debris scattered about in the road but thankfully only the contents of the blue recycling wheelie bins, no damage to life, limb or property for us or our neighbours but sympathies to those so afflicted.

Just back from Stoneleigh where 'she who crafts' spent several sovs on various crafting goodies while I was having a bit of deja vu thinking the last time I was trawling through the same halls I was surrounded by shiny classic cars. Which reminds me, with Autumn in view it must be getting close to the annual big bash at the NEC...

I have just discovered that there is a workshop in Canvey Island that can convert a DeLorean to right-hand-drive. Not cheap. Around forty grand :O for a converted car.

I suspect that you can have many things done on that part of Canvey Island. It used to be an area full of scrapyards but now has a lot of specialist small businesses. The canine hydrotherapy clinic we took Robbie to is down there.

The only time I have needed a collective noun for pigs would have been a stampede of pigs.

I was about 8 years old and wandering about with my cousin on their farm. Suddenly we could here a lot of shouting and squealing. We realised there were a lot of pigs heading towards us. We jumped up onto a farm trailer and it really shook as the pigs went under it and round it. It took ages for Uncle and his labourers to round them up. He wasn’t happy about it.

When you watch them running away from a dog, "Hurtle " seems a very apt word to describe the group!

Perhaps the word is connected with a hurdle which is a piece of portable fencing used to make pens for sheep.

Evening all

Sunshine and showers today, boxing some stuff up and taking different stuff to tip. We seem to have accumulated so much cr*p stuff.

Wednesday's storm was severe here; Princes Street was closed for some time when debris blew off a roof; a large number of trains were cancelled; Smokey Brae (by the old St Margaret's shed) and just 400m from here, has been closed since Wednesday because of a fallen tree from the railway bridge.

Just sat down with 500ml Bitter and Twisted and may have another. Seems there are also some almost empty bottles of whisky that need finished, too.

See that another storm is due in the south - hope it isn't too bad for you.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. The wind has dropped a bit and the cloud has disappeared, evidenced by the bright three-quarter moon. As many of you are aware you can take any vehicle on to the Nurburgring, here are a few of the more unusual ones.

Just back from the MRC, so windy brambles are flying out horizontally from The hedges, Im glad I'm not on a motorcycle...

The bent and damaged scaffolding on the cremated Swan has been replaced there appears to be extra reinforcing cross beams as well..

More work of slartybartfast carried out, a great improvement, though there's still more to be done on that hillside.

Time for a Highland Park

Goodnight..

Good evening everyone

Well as expected, today was another day when no work outside was done. However, this morning’s shopping trip was a success, getting everything that was on the shopping list, including a pastie for my dinner and I was home for just after 11:00. So once I’d put all the shopping away and made myself muggertea, I once again disappeared to the cellar and continued playing with the electronic circuit simulator programme.

The weather has continued to persist it down for most of the day, but just before tea the sun shone for a few minutes, before disappearing and the rain returned. After tea a scribbled a few more ideas for circuits, these will be tested over the weekend. Once done, we settled down with a nice bottle of Malbec and watched a bit of recorded TV.

Goodnight folks
