RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2, 2018 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Up a bit late this morning as a longer soak in the bath and nodding off wilst 'air drying' and I'm all behind. Just had a quick look in Facebook where a Canadian friend has just posted a pic of the weather in northern Alberta, SNOW! and quite heavy as well. Mind you it looked rather wet and slushy so hopefully it didn't stay for too long. Not much else to report so be back later.
Purley Oaks
Morning all Neil NHN, hope you're feeling a bit less CBA today. Gavin, hope those brakes don't let you down again. Brian (BSW1), you must be keeping your tip going. Just how much stuff have you got to take there? The town's looking good just now, like a flowerbud just about to burst, which it will this weekend. Seeing Matt Forde next Monday which should be good - well it is 2for1 tickets day, and taking my mum to see Maureen Lipman next Wednesday. Don't worry, in a fortnight we'll be moaning at how crowded the place is and longing for August Bank Holiday (the late one) when it's all over for another year. Or until the Christmas market opens in November when Edinburgh becomes Hogmanay city. Overcast today; waiting for a removals person to come and give us an estimate after lunch. Nothing sold or bought yet. House isn't even on the market but will be mid-Sept, hopefully. Hope your Thursdays are good Mal
RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 2, 2018 This morning I will start fitting a permanent fly screen to our bedroom so that should keep me out of mischief. No doubt other things will be done. I have a vision: Beth tucked up in bed somewhat smirking. Jamie outside on the window sill trying to get into the boudoir without much success. No mischief for you tonight Romeo!
Ian Abel
'ello. BIN day with me 1,200 miles away, I'm sure the Mrs will manage Nothing to report again <sigh> <yawn> I DID already, yesterday afternoon, get a notification from Delta that severe weather is probably going to affect flights out of JFK, including my flight FRIDAY! Suggestion to make other plans, free change of ticket apparently, however they don't take into account business travelers who would then need to tell clients they are buqqering off early (as much as a day!!), most would take a dim view of being charged the expenses and not getting them amortized over the "expected days" on site . I guess I'll plan on a late return again to home Already a steamy 25 and partly sunny driving in, expecting high around 30 with high humidity and developing thunderstorms later in the day! Enjoy the day... Edited August 2, 2018 by Ian Abel
Horsetan
Checking round the house of my late client this morning, I found an old BlackBerry in a bin in the hallway. I wonder if it still works....?
RMweb Premium petethemole Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2, 2018 Greetings from The Hundred of Mansbridge, which is warming up nicely. A minor catastrophe on Monday; the builder was smoothing off the plaster repair he did last week, low down in the corner of the living room, when he accidentally knocked the shelf the TV was on, resulting in it falling onto him, rapidly followed by the Sky box, Video/DVD recorder and the Wii console, all dragged down by their cables. Fortunately no damage was done to the builder or the equipment, but it all had to be disconnected and unravelled before going back. I took the opportunity to remove all the bits and pieces that had ended up on the same shelves so the alcove is now tidy and the cabling better organised. The charging socket on my mobile phone appears to be FUBAR so I'll need a new phone. The last one lasted nine years, not bad for £2.40 (basic phone, calls only, no frills). Time for lunch; pizza in oven, hopefully the odour will rise and prompt movement from the nocturnal one. Have a good day. Pete

Popular Post Simon G
Today has been rather hectic, but with at least one good outcome. My consultant gave me the results of the CT scan I had a month ago following my last chemo session. There is now no obvious remaining lymphoma, so I am now officially in remission. I had expected this, but it is still a massive relief. The previous scan had showed a 'lesion in the bronchus', which was not present in the latest scan, so it was probably just a fleck of mucous instead, which was also good news. I am still due to have some maintenance treatment every 8 weeks for the next 2 years, but that is not a chemo drug, so there shouldn't be any significant side effects. Having had all this during the morning, we returned home to the latest in the United Utilities saga. A new water pipe has now been 'moled' across the front garden to just in front of the house. They will return tomorrow to get the pipe into the house and connected up. This will mean a bit of upheaval inside, but the saga might just be at an end tomorrow. Here is a picture of the front of the house, with two of the holes recently dug, and showing the new blue pipe. I have taken a load of photos today just in case we have problems in the future with water pipes, so I know where exactly where the new pipe goes!
lightengine
SimonG, it would have been easier throwing an old bit of bone into the hole originally dug, the police would have torn the garden apart, and the leak found immediately.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 2, 2018 Happy Beer o’Clock from the currently-rechristened Hill of Tomatoes. It is warm. It is sunny. Things went well this morning at the House of Fun. I even found there is still humour to be had during the Green Train Railway’s morning crush hours. Receiving another delivery of luggage-laden travellers from Gatwick ar around 07.30 I was approached by a group of them in charge of Sarflunden accents seeking a train to Surrey Quays. My reply? “You travel half way round the world for a holiday in Surrey Quays??? (Feigned look of surprise) “Nah. We bin away now we come ‘ome”. Accompanied by an outbreak of laughter. Currently enjoying a beer (Doom Bar) on the Terrace and listening to Muddy Waters (which are in very short supply currently - hippos please take note) before sacrificing some lamb chops for tea. The new oven is due tomorrow. Here’s hoping that job goes well. Until then best wishes to all.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2, 2018 Afternoon from Estuary-Land. Simon, glad to see that UU have done the thing that they should have done in the first place and installed a new pipe. I had new pipes installed a few years ago, no ifs, no buts just new pipes installed with a mole drill. There was a bit of keyhole surgery under the patio, they only removed two or three pavior bricks to install the connection into the house.
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2, 2018 Evening All As usual, generic greetings, but with a special mention for Simon - two pieces of good news on one day can't be bad. Went to the annual art exhibition at Milnthorpe this morning, but didn't come away with any masterpieces. Got home, to have the G word uttered, and spent a couple of hours tidying up the area between the drive and the main back garden, which did need some attention, with many weeds to be rooted out, and also quite a bit of pruning. Fodder run tomorrow, as usual for a Friday. Regards to All Stewart
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 2, 2018 At the afternoon Moorings Awl, fried inner temple Here. A day on the water in today's weather, has left me looking like a panda, definite sun glass patches. The sailing went extremely well, and only two incidents neither directly sailing related. The first, involved your truly, while the farthest from the club I lost all throttle control. I had to motor back on idle, it took a long Time. Eventually once back, it was a simple job, the link between the cable and the carb body had unscrewed. The other involves a club official who managed to head butt his own boat trailer, needless to say the trailer won. A large gash on his head is evident, a nurse at the club has patched him up and recommended a trip to A and E His son is about to cart him off. Meanwhile the disco has arrived and is setting up, the bar has opened and once I have obtained a pint I will depart to a safe distance...... across the river. Since the internet doesn't work over there, bye for now.
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 2, 2018 Simon - two pieces of good news on one day can't be bad. Correct. Two pieces of good news is good. Two positives make a positive Two negatives make a positive Negative and positive together makes a loud (and sometimes expensive / fatal) bang!!
Popular Post BlackRat
Reporting in from downtown Orlando (Universal studios!). Fantastic holiday so far, bit Disney'd out but the grandchildren had a wonderful time. Son had a great idea to book into one of the Universal hotels.....thought it was a bit expensive (£300 a night......) but.....the room sleeps 4 PLUS you get 2 days fast passes to Universal included. Been on every ride in Islands of adventure some several times and saved HOURS of queuing so I guess it was pretty good value after all. So different to British theme parks....everything clean, tidy, everything works and hot weather....almost to hot. The only dissenting voices we have heard so far, or voices raised in anger.....yup, Brits. Off now for part two as the parks are so different at night..... Hopefully will wear the sprogs out cos I know I'm shattered!!!!!

RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted August 2, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 2, 2018 Good news Simon. Golf was played last night - it went well, I may have won the Wednesday evening sweep. Golf was played today - a good home win with my partner for the Seniors Team, but unfortunately it was a 3-3 match score, so 6-9 points in favour of Burnley. Golf will be played tomorrow - club singles semi-final. There is much going on in the NB garden at the moment. As next door were having their's levelled and drained, we took an impulsive decision to have ours done. It is something we had considered for a few years but access was limited to get machinery in. However - it can currently be accessed via next door.............. This will consume a fair proportion of spare/saved modelling tokens for awhile. Work started ac ouple of days ago. The fenceline with next door is from the back of the shed to the dead conifer. (The trampoline belongs to next door, but is currently "stored\" in our garden.) As it turns out, there was an old field drain that was blocked causing the soggy bottom (!) to the garden. The local parish council have agreed to foot the bill for a sump and renewal of the drain to a culvert about 30 yards away - hence the large pool of water next door. And another day with the mini digger. What was about a six foot fall over 75 feet is now effectively level in two stages and there is an 8 foot deep hole in next doors building site garden Mrs NB has not reacted too badly at my suggestion of a garden railway now that it will have large flat bits........ Catch up later. Cheers, Mick
