Thank you.

However, I can claim no credit for this new look; it is is entirely down to Shortliner (Jack).

He has given me a complete makeover as well as trying to tempt me into building something based on US switching.

I thought it was time for some wallowing and a suitable avatar popped up - It is possible that US switchy-things may follow, if I keep trying!

Happy Hump Day all.

The Hill of Strawberries has returned to its previously warm sunny self. The home-grown eponymous fruits are over but the tomatoes are coming on a treat. 2kgs already and that has barely made any difference to the ripening crop. Not at all bad for a single plant growing in a pot on the back wall.

I am, incidentally, now speaking to you in possession of a new premolar crown which was exchanged yesterday with the greater part of 400 Modelling / Drinking vouchers. Note the “ouch” contained within “vouchers”

In other news the Banana Splits theme tune (punk version) was brought to you by The D1ckies and my piece of 7” vinyl which contains the tune is coloured banana yellow. From the brief but colourful years of non-black and even picture-disc vinyl.

The specially-built track piece has arrived. Rather than risk awl here it is illustrated in the Waddlemarsh topic linked below.

Have a good wine o’clock. I intend to.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Met my friend lunchtime and arranged the trip to the Southwold exhibition on Saturday so I'd better get the tank topped up before then. Also in August the Essex Fire and Rescue Service Museum has a 'Family fun day' on the 8th, 14th, 23rd and 28th. I would like to have a look around the museum and hopefully I can avoid the water squirting which is one of the activities promised for the younger visitors but no doubt my friends young son will want to do that. The museum is situated in Hogg Lane, Grays so not to far to go, we have penciled in the 8th but there is three further dates.

Evening awl.

A more measured day at work thankfully, as I am a touch off colour. Nothing specific, just one of those listless CBA feelings.

A nice morning rolled into a horrid wet, windy afternoon and evening here, now that a hosepipe ban has been announced. Kind of like a rain dance.  If this keeps up we'll need the fire on.

Last night's weather report duly noted our hottest ever July on record with 15 days (ending with nine consecutively) over 90°F / 32.2°C. Interestingly I don't think we set any daily record high temperatures.

Having said that, it's a properly nice summer's day here today - at last. We have a little break from the intense heat and 29°C is forecast for later with a slight cooling trend for the next few days, a lovely prospect.

I was even able to retrieve a certain commission executed by Rapido for Rails of Sheffield at the 'other post office'. I had a note in my mailbox on Saturday that the mail carrier was unable to procure my signature. (To be fair I might have been sleeping in.) My local post office is 'retail only'. There are PO Boxes and there is a retail counter to sell stamps and ship packages. To actually pick up a package you have to go to a separate facility in an industrial district some distance away, so some extra planning is required.

Found some strange piles of  "vermicelli" on the steps.

post-25691-0-74844600-1533152390_thumb.jpg

Closer examination reveals that they are actually very small ants.

post-25691-0-65605600-1533152413_thumb.jpg

There was a column of them marching up the concrete and in behind the house siding, so I sprayed some antcecticide behind the siding. Looks like it was a direct hit.

Good evening fellow ER's. Generic greetings to one and all. I sincerely hope that Simon gets the issues with UU sorted soon and the leak is finally repaired. The stress is not something you need. I also hope that ChrisF enjoys his stay in Sidmouth.

A quick update from "Sunny Hunny" before bed. Yesterday saw the sunshine return and we visited the Snettisham Park. We all enjoyed the tractor ride into the deer paddock and the opportunity to feed these wonderful creatures. There was also a chance to bottle feed some lambs later in the day.

Late afternoon; we returned to Hunstanton for ice cream and more time on the arcades before taking Amber onto the beach in the evening. The tide was a long way out when we arrived, so the walk out to the sea was quite lengthy. Within a few minutes it was clear that the tide was coming in, and was doing so rapidly. Despite leaving our shoes and towels well away from the tide limit, within five minutes I had to return and move them quickly to prevent them getting wet! The speed in which the tide came in was quite impressive, and within half an hour it had almost come all the way in. It is certainly easy to see why people get cut off!

Last night brought word that the North Norfolk Railway had lifted the steam ban so we headed off to Sheringham today. It was carnival parade day so the main car park was covered with a market and a fun fair and the town seemed quite busy. We spent a lengthy time there today, broken up by a return trip to Holt early afternoon. The return to steam was a rather token effort. 9F "Black Prince" was on the front of the train, but the LT class 20 was attached to the rear. The diesel clearly did all of the work on the outward journey as it was the only one making any noise and you could almost feel it pushing the train from the rear. It also hauled the train back.

Another brief visit to the beach with Amber this evening for sandcastle building.

All in all another relaxed and enjoyable day. The week is passing by very quickly.

 Best wishes

 Andy

Tea was its usual boisterous affair, but again as usual, everything was eaten. I can say with all honesty, that all three have good appetites and they usually eat everything put in front of them, if they don’t, it’s probably because they’re ill!

As I was taking them home, Sheila made a start on tidying up. When she’d finished that, we sat down and opened a bottle of chilled rosé.

Yesterday one of our neighbours came round with some fresh vegetables that she grows on her allotment. We got a couple of courgettes and a cucumber, one of the courgettes weighs in at over 1k. So the plan for tomorrow is, once Sheila has left for her Zumba class I will make soup courgette, potato, cheese and spring onion soup. Once done I’m hoping to get at least one trip to the tip done.

Goodnight all

Good morning all,

Sunny start here and a dry and very warm day is forecast.

AWOL yesterday but not much happened apart from some shopping, domestic tasks and running of trains.

Today we're going into the Big City  with Nicki and the kids to meet Steve and Abbie for lunch.

Nothing else planned although the garden is in a bit of a sorry state and needs attention but I suspect (hope) it will be too hot for me to venture out there later.

Have a good one,

Bob.

Morning from a sunny Surrey.

Hope Mike (SM) has made the Pratricia

Had a good day yesterday. Picked up soem Canadian $$$ s after Wetherpsoons breakfast then to station using some of my Delay Repay vouchers ot get a one day Travelcard. However the Ardingly to Acton Empties didnt show. It was about 30 late so skipped taking photos and headed to East Croydon then Tramlink to Beckenham Junction and various South Eastern services from there including a visit to Bromley North. Hadn't been there for many many years. The loaded sand train passing thorugh Barnehurst made up for the one I didnt see at Redhill.

I eventually met up with Andrew C in the Taproom in Woolwich and from there to bemondsey and the Bottleshop where we met up with our repsective other halves. Soem great Sour beers dconsumed and a good look at the many bottles espcially USA ones form places such as Telegraph brewing in Santa Barbara but we resisted as we have enough bottles at home to last us till xmas.

Unfortunately to get home we had to use London Bridge where my stress levels went up, my other half noticing - I really dislike the place now. After waiting over 15 minutes for the next service to ECR our worm came in a few minutes late then proceeded to crawl, some how the next Worm (a stopper between Purely and Redhill) managed to overtake ours (a fast between Purley and Redhill)  so we eventually made it to Redhill over 10 late missing the chippy as it closes at 9.30 pm so it was the golden arches to grab a take out and rush for the bus home.

This morning I will be packing my camera bag  ready for our upcoming trip across the pond then its off to Mums to continue assembling Ikea furniture etc.

At the moorings Awl, inner temple here

I awoke at 02:30, but that wasn't to bad I'd fallen asleep before 08:30!! Then I probably had another hour and a half sleep after that.

This is being typed a little later, because I had to reset the router, and that is in the secure shed with the clubs main PC system that does the webcams etc. https://www.horning-sailing.club/webcams.php which, if you look at from 09:30 You See our sailing chaos. Peak busyness about 11:00 or 14:30,though the fleets could be anywhere on a Mile and a half of river.

I hear the sounds of beer barrels being dropped, it must be a delivery to the pub in the left hand picture.

Out on patrol we have signs to hold out, it's easier than shouting over the sound of their diesel engines, "keep right", "hug the bank" "racing ahead" "thank you" to which one punter shouted back "does this mean we have to turn round" err where did it say that?

Yesterday I rescued grandma and granddad in a rowing dinghy, male and female grandchildren in canoes. They found paddling up river is easy with the wind and tide, getting back was not. They were very undirectional getting out into hoards racing sailors on also amoung inexperienced hire boaters. So we towed them back the mile they had come from...

There's a phone going off in the clubhouse, someone will be looking for that this morning.

Just as we set off to return to our station, another sailing boat reported a dinghy in trouble, full throttle time.. Just where we picked up the the others was a "solo" class dinghy sailor sat on the bank, he'd capsized, recovered to the bank but had a badly torn sail, he'd only had the boat 2 days....

We had huge entry of Yare and Bure one designs yesterday, very traditional broads keelboats with very long booms, half a dozen can block the river we had a lot more than that..

Today, is the original regatta day, spoons day, tea spoon for third place, middles spoon for second, soup soon for first. As well as the chance of getting your name on lots of trophies..

Many more boats will be out today,

Time for another Muggacoffee..

Good morning everyone

It’s a little cloudy but there is no rain forecast for today. Breakfast has been eaten and tea one orange juice has been drunk. I’m now just waiting for Sheila to leave for her Zumba class then I can make a start on the soup, some of which we’ll be having for tea tonight, the rest will be decanted into suitable containers and frozen for future consumption. After that I’ll load up the car and see how many times I can get to the tip.

Enjoy whatever you’ve got planned for the day, back later.

Morning all.

It is a very pleasant morning here .

We are going to Norfolk for a few days. A very rural part of Norfolk that wasn’t well served with mobile phone signals last time we went. We will be back home on Saturday.

Greetings all, and hello to Jason Isaacs.

This morning has already provided an overabundance of excitement. On my commute into work, the brakes on my elderly Clio let go.

Few things are more liable to jolt you into full, horrified consciousness than discovering such a thing. Fortunately I made it into work by driving very gingerly (you have no idea just how interesting life becomes when your only way to decelerate at a wet roundabout is a combination of down-gearing and handbrake application) and, from there, I was able to get the car to a tyre and brake specialist half a mile up the road.

Today may be expensive.

August may be frugal.

Mood may be terse.

Kind regards screeching uncontrollably towards all those wishing they could dive for cover;
Tinkety-tonk, etc.
Gavin

Bittmore are you sure you shouldn't be Appi Lee Marr Ed.

What makes you think we are not ?

Morning Peeps

I was up very early grabbing some pain killers I decided to watch a catch up on iPlayer

it was pointless going back to bed as she was in Peppa mode, today I will endeavor

to finish the painting  there is only an hours work I wished I had finished the job of

yesterday the head feels as if some one has filled it up with foam and can hardly hear

anything which was handy she was watching the BBC's squawky Charlie and that oddball

Nagga Munchie droning on.

Enjoy you lunch GDB

I'm off to do.                                                                                                   enjoy your day Top Coate

The soup has now been decanted into 4 - 0.6lt containers and is cooling down on the kitchen work surface. Once I’ve finished my muggertea I’ll make a start loading more rubble into the boot of the car and head of to the tip. Hopefully I’ll get 2 runs done today and then after dinner I’ll spend the afternoon in the workshop.

Tony. Enjoy your break in Norfolk.

Gavin. I hope the car repairs aren’t too expensive!
