What a difference 8 hours, a couple of degrees rise in temperatures, a couple of hours of rain and then clearing skies makes...

 

 

Virtually no sign there was a couple of inches of snow at its peak!

 

It's still pretty bad 50 miles and more east of here, and Boston is a mess, but here, more like a spring afternoon now, go figure

The car, that was covered in snow when I came back this morning, looks like it just got here from Florida!

That's me off to get some dinner in about another 30 minutes...

If Alexa could bring me a beer it would be superb.

 

It's wet and yes great day to be sitting in a bar. First stop was at McCormicks at Riverside as they do Full Sail beers. My other half wanted a small glass of the Wassail winter beer. She got her wish as they ran out after half filling a pint glass. Many place don't do small glasses. So she got half a pint of that 7.2% beer and another half of Amber.

 

To keep out of the rain we are using the streetcar so next stop is Rogue Hall by the University. Great sign outside.

E‘ning all. Did I say I’ve had enough of this winter? Felt right shitey coming off work last night and even more so by morning, so consultation of my ENT specialist resulted in another grounding due to acute sinusitis, and antibiotics being prescribed following confirmation of a bacterial cause.

 

Think I’ll call it a day soonish, so, cheers to all, and congrats and commies as appropriate.

I'm very partial to Full Sail's Amber. The pub in Hood River can be extremely busy (particularly when the weather is nice) and the municipal pay and display car park outside is monitored hawkishly for scofflaws (or people like my brother who forget) who don't pay. It would be a tedious drive in the rain to Hood River today - even if you were driving.

 

Is there anything fun and different on tap at Rogue Hall today? If not have a Hazelnut Brown for me. 

 

I should go find their Hazelutely Choctabulous. I've never had it but have had the both the Hazelnut Brown and the Chocolate Stout.  According to Rogue's beer finder a local supermarket has it in bottles. A scoop of vanilla ice cream in that would be a fun dessert.

Hazelnut Brown currently being sipped. The Choctabulous is superb. Had that Sunday evening in what used to be Green Dragon.

Today has not been at all bad really. Some very positive feedback from several school groups en route to Hampton Court including one leader asking for me by name having heard from her colleague earlier that they had received “a most exceptional welcome and service well over and above” anything they had anticipated.

 

For a parting thought I ask this question. If daffodils admire their own reflections are they narcissustic?

Actually, Vincent, I sometimes wonder if the dialects hereabout should be the ones considered deficient! At which point I should emphasise that I’m a „Westerner“ and probably won’t ever get the hang of Middle German dialects as such.

 

Conversely, some work mates (present and former) have actually taken me for a Francophone Belgian or a Frenchman. Something to do with prosody and intonation, apparently, which they said reminded them a lot of French. I actually wouldn’t rule that out entirely as there were French Huguenots in my family’s ancestry...so perhaps some traces of it did get passed on over the generations.

Evening everyone

 

We’ve had an sunny day here, but it didn’t start off that way, first thing this morning we had a little rain. But thankfully by dinner it had given way to sunshine , which we enjoyed until it became dark.

 

Well all the furniture painting has now been completed, all I have to do is re-fit things like, shelf supports, door hinges, drawer runners and door knobs etc. It’s then down to Sheila to put back the contents of both these pieces of furniture.

 

After tea I made some red velvet cupcakes, as Ava has asked for these after tomorrow nights tea. As yet they are undecorated, I’ll decorate them tomorrow after dinner, as I intend to go swimming in the morning.

 

We definitely have a pair of robins nest building in the garden, it’s been quite fascinating watching them and Sheila is very excited about it. Funnily enough, she only said a few weeks ago that she’d not seen any robins over the winter period and now we them nesting!

 

Here’s one of the pair standing guard near the nest. Apologies for the graininess, but I only had chance to grab my phone and I then had to put it on full zoom.

 

 

I think the grandchildren will be quite excited if they manage to get a glimpse of them tomorrow.

Same thing happened here. The morning directing traffic in stinging snow, Afternoon sweltering under too many clothes.....

 

We might get more snow next week, the temperature is just not rising this year yet. Last year I had made the first grass cut by March 13.

I got a rather sad message last night - apparently my Godfather died last Friday.  He was almost 90, so had a good innings, but always came across as the sort that would go on forever!

The world is a sadder place today for two reasons.  The first is, of course, the news overnight of the death of Professor Stephen Hawking.   We have lost one of the most remarkable and brilliant humans of all time.

 

The second reason is closer to home.  If you have ever wondered what cyber bullying looks like, I refer you to the Falcon Brass thread.  Certain people should hang their heads in utter shame for their crass, insensitive, hounding and selfish comments which at their worst are more suited to Donald J Trump than members of RMweb.  Expulsions have taken place for lesser misdemeanours.

Another six hour sleep. plus about 30 minutes on the sofa.

 

Working for an American Company, I don't notice normally what day  or month format the clock is in, however it can get a bit confusing when both are in the low numbers. Ithis is why the normal convention here on all paperwork and spreadsheets, is the date format, "14th Mar 18"

 

As I aproached home last night the road disappeared under an unusually deep layer of mud, they are pulling more beet out of the sodden fields. This time they are coming up the green lane we normally walk Ben the Border Collie on. the Green lane is now a dark Brown lane and totally chewed up most of it being on the road.. For the hundred yards either side of where is comes out to where the tarmac should be, it was up to 6 inches deep in mud, this is why I don't clean the outside of the car. at around 21:00 they gave up and you could here a digger blade being scrapped along the road.

So this morning it was a wet slippery slime on the road as I left in the fight log. this degenerated to fatchy pog later before Sright Bunshine in Norwich. There was another set of muddy tracks across one of the New roundabouts on the NDR and a broken car at a roundabout in a housing estate later, it's an acheivement to hit the small island in the middle of what is mostly like a large mini roundabout.

 

Also observed on the way in, a white flowering hedge row, spring is here, even if the coming Beastly Easterly doesnt't know it. Can the odd remaining Snowdrift hold out till reinforcements arrive?

 

Time to.... go set the Automatic test run onto it's next section...

Sad about the Prof. I did read his book all the way through. Didn't understand all of it but it is fascinating.

 

Wonder what "we" are going to do about untouchable Vlad. Being ex KGB he knows all the tricks so it will be interesting...if somewhat concerning.

 

Found out a relative was in Australia when we were there. He is on MMS Sutherland...drat!

Good morning all,

Dry fresh start and a bright and breezy day is forecast.

To garden or not to garden, that is the question. In my current mood probably not as Mr. Back is grumbling at the moment although some gentle exercise might help.

Seems like the washing machine will be working overtime today as the Boss has offered to help Nicki out with the laundry. SiL Steve has been helping out a lot (although they're separated) and in fact has been staying there to look after Nicki and the kids while she's been ill but things have piled up a bit.

My muddling mojo has been zero for several weeks now. I have also now cancelled most of the pre-orders that I had because firstly it was becoming stupid and secondly the money can be put towards my new car.

Common sense has prevailed at GDB Towers for now. Doubt if it will last.

Wonder what "we" are going to do about untouchable Vlad. Being ex KGB he knows all the tricks so it will be interesting...if somewhat concerning.

 

My take on this is that once the evidence is passed over to Moscow, they will conduct a very detailed analysis of this.

 

They will report back that yes it was the nerve agent as specified, but it was used by rogue elements from within the relevant department.

 

These rogue elements were working without the knowledge or authority of the state , have been apprehended and dealt with accordingly.

 

A statement will be made over how regretful this incident was and how damaging this could have been for international relations between the two countries.

 

Boris will make a statement thanking our friends for their robust and thorough investigation and  the subsequent action to prevent such a terrible thing happening again.

 

Now all will be happy in 'LaLa land'. (aka Parliament).
