RMweb Gold 81C Posted March 6, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2018 Good morning all, Rain overnight but should be some bright and sunny spells with the chance of more showers later. Jamie, my sympathies but certain people should be told their fortune. For crying out loud it's a funeral and personal animosities should be put to one side out of respect for the departed. Mick, I am quite a Ford fan having had 2 Escorts, 1 Cortina, 2 Sierras, 1 Mondeo and currently a Focus. Main criteria apart from liking the look and driveability of it are: 1. I need to be able to afford to buy and then run it. (Sounds obvious but it would be easy to get carried away) 2. Automatic with preferably a petrol engine. 3. Higher ride height than my Focus. 4. Reasonable rear seat leg room for adults. 5. A few "bells & whistles" without being stupid about it. Today I'm hopefully looking at the Seat Arona and Ateca. Have a good one, Bob. How about a Ford Transit then it meets all of your requirements and plenty of room for the shopping you would only need to go once a month.

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted March 6, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 6, 2018 Morning All Two days on the trot - wow. While HH is failing to keep up Debs' high standards of train and model free posts, here's one which gladdened the heart of our late Duchess lover, Jock 67B. Greetings to all ailing, celebrating, and recovering. Back later/tomorrow Regards to All Stewart
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 6, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 6, 2018 Morning all, Going from information on here I have taken up with the management the matter of her omission of pasty provision on National Pasty Day. Her answer? This evening for dinner we will be receiving stuffed peppers - more foreign muck (an expression my dad also used) and not even the slightest hint of making amends for her oversight. Such an oversight in fact brings to my mind the word oversite but that would of course be cutting off my nose to spite my tum, grr. That apart today will include a visit to the Good Count's daughter to make an offering to his continued activities. But at least they will create a good opportunity to visit Waitrose who do a considerably better line in mushrooms that Tesco - probably a consequence of them being much fresher as they grow their own (of a number of varieties) on John Lewis' Leckford Estate near Andover so not too far from Bracknell distribution centre. Have a good day one and all
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 6, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2018 I would be questioning those charges. £11.25 for the ransom. 20% vat of £49.75 is £9.95. Even if they charged on the postage cost that should have added no more than £4 on £20 postage. The maximum you should have been charged is £25.20 Sounds like they incorrectly applied duty to a low value item. It wasn't for the ebay purchase, it's for a different loco coming from Canada. The VAT was £26.80 and £11.25 licence to print money "clearance fee". It left Leeds depot at 0802....... patiently waiting. Cheers, Mick

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 6, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2018 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Heard the lesser spotted bin lorry this morning, two days early. However the bin bags are still where I left them last Thursday as are a few others down the road. I managed to catch a glimpse of it as it departed looking somewhat empty. BlackRat
Morning All, It is a somewhat milder morning in this part of the world. It also looks like it is going to be fairly sunny, so hopefully Spring is on the way. Referring back to some of the comments about Scotland - it never ceases to amaze me just how big Scotland is! Or for that matter how "long" Cornwall is. That is much the same, when you get past Exeter you think you are almost there, but there is still a long way to go! Not as far as to John O'Groats but nevertheless it is quite a way. Time for a coffee. Have a good day everyone... A copper on duty in Exeter, is nearer to the Met than a copper on duty in Penzance. The longest blue light run I ever did was over 140 miles, I wasn't fit for much at the end of it!
Popular Post Rugd1022
Morning all, best wishes to those currently suffering any ills, aches and pains or still battling with Mother Nature. First day back at work today after a fortnight's DIY leave and the shift finished early with me having to leave 6H10 at Bletchley due to problems further north in the Peak District, so a nice (lucky!) way to ease back into it gently. This will mean another easy day tomorrow as I'll get a lift down to Bletchley in the morning with the shunter, do a quick brake test and be ready to take it as far as Kettering. It's a pity the job finishes at the end of the month, it's one of our easier turns..! Noticed a bit of snow still clinging on in places on the way down to Bletchley, I hope it's not too bad or miserable where you lot are
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted March 6, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2018 Just a quick recollection. I was travelling back to Scotland from Crewe once, and my planned train was about an hour late, so I decided on plan B and took the first Northbound to change as necessary further North. So off we trundles, and a family of voluble Americans on Britrail passes were in the four seat bay on the opposite side to me. As I knew the route, and as they were interested enough, I pointed out some of the more interesting landmarks and points of interest to your average tourist. We left the Border City and as we crossed the border, I made that known, and before I could say too much more, one of the party went to the luggage racks to remove all their stuff. I asked why, and he said "We'll soon be there then". The train was the old Clansman, and their destination was Inverness. Well, they had already been on it for some time as it shuffled its way round Brum, and they were amazed that they would be on board for just about the same time again.

Horsetan
....Talk of E Types puts me in mind of my mate Marty, who rebuilt one from a scrapper about 25 years ago. He was at a car show a couple of years ago, and another owner rolled up for a chat - turns out the cars had consecutive registrations! Marty's is the blue one. marty's E.jpg Work out the mathematical probability of these two consecutively-registered cars meeting up after they were originally sold new. Wonder if the VIN plates/ engine numbers are also consecutive?

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted March 6, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 6, 2018 Work out the mathematical probability of these two consecutively-registered cars meeting up after they were originally sold new. Wonder if the VIN plates/ engine numbers are also consecutive? Neither could believe it at first, but both cars were sold new at the same North-east dealership, and remained in the general area all their lives. I haven't asked Marty about the VINs he may have asked the guy, I must do so. They are both the same model IIRC, but I'm no E Type expert. Mk1.5 2+2 4.2L. Maybe. Marty's has more modern brakes, as the originals were not exactly up to modern traffic. Its a to pull out of junctions also....too much bonnet. I'll never drive it again as the clutch is very heavy, my Frankenfoot will probably break off if I tried.
AndrewC
Work out the mathematical probability of these two consecutively-registered cars meeting up after they were originally sold new. Wonder if the VIN plates/ engine numbers are also consecutive? Not sure but I've had confusion in the past with parking tickets. Seems the dealership registered 2 Freelanders, same colour with sequential registration. LM and LN. The difference was mine is 5 door and the other was 3 door with removable roof. Lewisham council seem to have the most illiterate people in their enforcement department. The last one I got was sent back with a nasty-gram and I'd enlarged their enclosed picture with a red circle around the registration on the letter, and the number plate on the photo. Never got another one after that.

And familiarity with the route definitely shrinks the perceived distance. Last year we decided to loiter in our hotel till late morning before heading home to the MiLs with an overnight stop just north of the border, roughly half way. Arriving at our pit stop mid afternoon we became quickly aware what a hole the inn was. "So we can stay here for 4 hours before an evening meal in this sg1thole. OR we can jump back in the car and be at grannies by early evening." "Dad. DRIVE!!!"
