Morning all. Early morning trip to the local hardware shop to purchase plywood and 2x1. I'm not saying quite What I'm planning to do with it - after all her nibs is possibly on the mend and there's a lot of grasses hereabouts - however it may end up forming some sort of substrate for a spring/summer project in the garage. Nuff said.

Morning,

Bright and sunny and somewhat chilly - seasonal weather par excellence.  So Mrs Stationmaster has decided that we are going out although it remains unclear where she wants to go - could be off along the A40 (eventually) or maybe southwards or strewth alone knows where until we get there - time will tell but I have drawn her attention to a nice looking pub/restaurant lurking off the A34 (so I doubt she'll pick that one).  Time, and her, will no doubt tell (me).

Hoping Debs will pick up as she gets over the latest op - she does seem to follow a truly up & down pattern so wishing her well.  No doubt Mal will rejoin us at some syage soon.

Have a good day one and all.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Chris, sometimes my clock radio does the same thing but it is easily reset by switching on the radio for a few minutes. However mine is reset automatically by radio and I have no other means of reseting the time. Speaking of clocks I did have a couple of those cheap 'travel' alarm clocks, both of which stopped working after I had received the clock radio. The reason they stopped working was that I placed them in front of the speakers of the clock radio. Only then did I realise that the magnetic field of the speakers had virtually destroyed the magnets of the 'make and break' motors powering the clocks. :banghead:

I have to be careful. We do get phone calls from international numbers and I am not sure Aditi's family would appreciate being verbally abused. Though I do have a special ringtone for MiL's Enfield number so Aditi can mentally prepare herself. Sometimes MiL will insist on speaking Punjabi for the call. Aditi's sister thinks this is a sign of her mother having dementia. MiL said it is because she likes speaking Hindi or Punjabi sometimes. She doesn't get much opportunity in Enfield unlike her time in Nottingham.

It works!

Email (eeeeeeemail in Yorkshire) is a far better medium for conning encouraging good folk to part with their money.................

So bearing that in mind it is time for my annual plea for financial support for the Central African Sanctuary for Hippos (CASH).

Please remember a cheque made out to CASH will help pay for a hippo to get high quality malt whisky which has been scientifically proven to ease aches and pains, and could also help fund treatment for a 777 addiction.

Mornin' awl from a sunny but chilly Hundred of Mansbridge.

The laundry is on and I've had my second coffee. Both tasted grotty. I suspect that Southern Water periodically change the source of our supply. They draw from the River Itchen at more than one location and from chalk aquifers. The water from somewhere affects the taste of instant coffee. It doesn't matter what brand, as long as it's one that actually tastes coffee-like; most own-brands taste like mud anyway.

After lunch a trip to Aldi beckons; as Saints are away I may drop into the nearby Guide Dog for a change. Recently my Saturday post-shopping beverage  has been taken at the Tram Stop.

Tomorrow I aim to go to Eurotrack.

Healing thoughts to Debs, Simon, Mal, Neil and others as required.

Keep warm,

Pete

Mike your good lady might like this place and if you get a window seat you might be able to see some trains.  :locomotive:

Positive vibes to Debs

Late on parade on board a bendylino to Glasgow for the exhibition. Just passing Motherwell.

Will help out on the work stand whilst perusing the show today and tomorrow.

I will try and avoid purchasing stuff.

Have a good rest of the day folks.

I may or may not catch up later.

Cheers

Mick

Afternoon Awl,

The bonfire was not altogether successful, the wind is too strong. The fire ran through under neath the main pile of wood and came out the other side. After 5.5 hours of work, a subsidiary pile of cuttings 10 ft across and 3 ft high was cleared and burnt. But I just couldn't gét the thicker stuff to burn.

Some work was done on the shed, more preparation was carried out for shelving in the alley, this generated more waste which was burnt.

SWMBO has taken Ben out for his walk, he's asleep at the moment I think I'll join him....

Worried about Debs again, although I did get a text yesterday.

We went out for lunch with John and his Mrs, so after an hour and a half upright in the restaurant my foot is going bananas now.  Elevated and recovering currently. Frustrating when you think it's getting better and.....it is, but more slowly than my patience lasts out for.

Afternoon all from the village that despite our temporary absence for a night is still north of Ikea.

Time for some relaxation and for Beth and I to finish off the bottle of Champaign that was corked and put in the fridge yesterday when we set off.

Despite he sad news in the morning a great day was had by all.

Here is a very proud dad about to escort his daughter down the aisle.

Shortly after the ceremony we told Rachel that her grandpa had died. The others already knew but had kept schtumn. She was understandably upset but had an good time to recover before the wedding breakfast.

Here's Beth all dressed up.

After my short speech Beth asked for quiet and we all raised a glass to Will. She did brilliantly to hold it together but I think that the eyes tell the real story.

The rest of the day went off very well and we retired from the fray at midnight.

Breakfast we at 08.00 for us and we saw two of the kids (Rachel and Martin)then came over to Batley to see Beth's step mum and Beth's brother. The funeral director arrived as planned and before we left the funeral had been planned and a lot of arrangements made. My main role was tea and coffee maker. The morning went as ell as an be expected and we even managed a few moments of laughter. The main one was the Will would now be sitting next to Bessie his first wife and getting an ear bashing about his timing.

Then it was home and after lunch a period of eyelid inspection.

I hope that Debs does recover soon and that we hear from Mal.

Regards to all, wherever you happen to be on the razor blade of life.

Jamie

Try again in a pyre shape. Fire needs 3 things: fuel, oxygen and a temp that exceeds the ignition temp of the fuel. The fact the large logs didn't burn indicate at least one requirement wasn't reached. As the logs were in the fire, it's most likely the lack of oxygen that prevented it igniting. A pyre was used by the Romans to burn the dead (several episodes of Time Team address this) so if they could, you should too ;)

The triangle of fire does, as you say, need three things, unfortunately a horizontal 40 mph icy wind, provided plenty of oxygen, but blew the flames, when I got some, out of the side of the bonfire. Therefore not getting enough heat to the main wood pile.

I've been engaging Debs with virtual visiting. I've just got this message from Sister Jen

You have had her smiling and engaged today, Thnx very much for that, John.

Jen.

So it's working. Jen and I will keep working together.

Could I appeal for anything else, please, that will lift her. The medication is working, if she'll let it. I've been sending up old family pix (1888-1912) just to keep the interest there, and will continue to do what I can. I know that other ERs have their own channels of communication, but she needs us whatever method.

She's now been there close on two months. She can see the sky out of her window, but not a lot else.

The message from Debs is:

"Oh my - ERs are so kind to me with their good wishes."

I know that she has problems ty[ping relying on short messages, but anything we send up is appreciated

Thanks

John

Afternoon all. Firstly - to Jamie - I am glad the day went well and my condolences to you and your family for the loss. What a mixed day for you. Supportive thoughts to Simon, Mal, NHN and anyone else who needs them - I also hope to hear better news regarding Debs' recovery soon.

A lovely sunny day here in Derby today although there has been a distinct chill in the air. Much of the day has been spent trying to get my head around the planning for the new school - some of it came together easily, some less so. Tonight Sarah and should get to spend a bit of time together over a meal, providing Amber sleeps ok. Her sleep pattern has been a little inconsistent this week. I am guessing she had a late night at her grandparent's last night so hopefully she will be tired.

Yesterday, after lunch with the girls I dropped them off at the in-laws for their regular Friday night stop over. Usually it is linked to a football match, but on this occasion it was due to Sarah having a hair appointment early this morning. The free evening gave me a chance to venture back to the beer festival where I caught up with an old friend and bumped into a few more. A very enjoyable evening with several more ales sampled. I certainly left with a headache emerging after consuming a variety of different stouts and dark beers. However I  awoke this morning as fresh as a daisy.

Tomorrow should see me take in the small model show at Trowell near Ilkeston before spending the rest of the day on school planning. There may be some Avon books to deliver too.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Regards

Andy
