RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 Good morning. Frosty here. No plans as yet, but I am sure we will think of something. We watched a film last night, Wonder Woman. I did notice the "train error" but didn't comment! Tony
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 19, 2018 Morning all from Estuary-Land. I wished Debs well on Facebook last night and she responded which must mean things are on the up (but still quite a way to go). I was surprised yesterday when I went out to see the bin lorry just arriving as the bags had gone. In fact the wind had deposited them all at the far end of the street. Also when I went to the car I found a bird had carped all over it, I had intended to take it into a car wash but I forgot but not to worry, a heavy hailstorm yesterday evening done the job of cleaning it off.

RMweb Gold 81C Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 Good morning all, A dry and frosty start to the day with a clear sky. A cold dry day with sunny spells is forecast but apparently there will be an isolated shower in Hampshire. (Only one?) Yesterday I was let loose in the kitchen at lunchtime (this is rare event and a great honour to be allowed to touch anything in "her" kitchen....apart from the dishwasher * ) and made carrot and coriander soup. Although I say it myself it was extremely tasty. The Boss concurred and I will be allowed to make more soups! Today's major task will be assisting The Boss with a passport renewal application. There are also some domestic tasks in the offing. Muddling still eludes me but I did stand looking at the layout for a while wondering what to do next. No conclusions have been reached, I seem to have hit a brick wall and am seriously thinking about making a fresh start. Have a good one, Bob. * Forgot that I'm also allowed 3 or 4 minutes to cook steaks. It's nice to see that you make yourself useful, I do the lunch every day here at Farn Manor clear up afterwards and set the dishwasher going, I need to gain tokens some how. This morning a set of Tweezers arrived in the post they will come in handy for prodding into the voodoo doll of SWMBO the tips of then are razor sharp at £2.99 and free postage a real bargain. This is the sellers site address on ebay. fengli_1001 (15445)

RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 19, 2018 Cheers, folks. Glad I didn’t have to drive yesterday, given the utter chaos that storm caused. Clean-up in this-here city lasted till this morning, I understand... Split shift today, and will book onto the second half of it in a few. Apologies for those couple of days of absence. I hope everyone‘s been well, or at least improving. Later...
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 (edited) G'day all. Luminaries of BUG duly assisted with various points regarding their response on the Greater West franchise renewal and interestingly many of our views, especially regarding (makes me very)Cross rail run along similar lines; the paying passengers are definitely seeing it as a serious downgrading of the train service. Some Tesco visiting to be dome once my mugatea is finished but that's it for adventures out depending on whether this evening's meal involves a visit to the chippy (but deep fried Mars bars will not be purchased, the cod and battered sausages are perfectly adequate). Nice to see Debs' post on Facebook but the poor lass clearly has a way to go and stills needs our supporting words - which are freely given. Enjoy the rest of your day. Ian Abel
Morning on a POETS that is welcome. We and several others on the street apparently have broken some unwritten law about Christmas trees, as several have still NOT been taken away! Wish they'd tell us why Another client on the horizon - been asked to step in and help out as our current technical specialist apparently "can't read minds" - the client sounds like a classic, provides specifications that amount to scribbles on a bar napkin and wonders why the end result isn't what they want! As both my boss, the project manager (whom I've worked with before and who is very good) and the specialist who I also know and respect, want me to "try and read the minds" as a second wave, I reminded them I'm not exactly patient with idiots, nonetheless they want me to give it a shot! Classically, we've been waiting all week for the network access details and credentials - having signed away my wealth and first-born on request forms Monday - so this one is also off to a predictably snails pace start <sigh> Will take Whitney and Jemmas car back to her later today - she finished LATE yesterday in Seattle and took the red-eye home arriving before 5AM, so took an Uber to her place knowing I'm not exactly excited by being up and out before 5! Far as I know a quiet weekend planned, so that probably means some surprises will arise to use up ANY hobby time -2 cloudy and a warming trend today with a high of 5, warnings of a storm due to arrive Sunday-Monday with 5-10 inches of white carp depending on the storm track. POE if you can, I'm planning/hoping to. May the farce be with someone else other than you

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 19, 2018 Afternoon all. My weekend has arrived. And with it a flurry of emails alerting me to activity in Jock67B's Cancer Ward which topic has already had my attention taking priority over matters often less significant. A beautiful but chill day today during which Dawn broke at 06.40 (how careless of her - I'll have to have a few words ...... ) and the sky remained cloud-free until almost 15 o'clock. Almost everything was running nicely as well which made it a good way to end the week. i can, however, add to my collection of mispronounced place names having been asked for "Horse Mire" (Haslemere), "Winker-Hester" (Winchester) and the unlikely destination of "Float" which turned out to be Fleet. Optimistic Person of the Month Award - thus far - goes to the couple speaking in strong Irish accents who had just arrived via Gatwick Airport and hoped that their touch-on with a contactless card, which is available at Gatwick for travel to London Zones 1-6, would see them right for the train through to Inverness. Oh and which platform does that leave from please??? They expressed surprise that a London zones fare ends at Watford High Street, Mill Hill Broadway or Hadley Wood (according to route) several hundred miles shy of anywhere in Scotland. And it's Platform 16 and change at Watford Junction to the overnight service for those playing at home.Mr. Stannah's lift has been installed and sampled at Mother's with the first report being that she was motivated by its arrival to make a special effort to get up and use it. I'll be down to see for myself in around ten days' time as things stand. Best wishes to Debs and those supporting her. It is less than an hour until Beer O'clock. I am allowed to enjoy more than one tonight and fully intend to. Avagoodweekend.

RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 Incredible - I have today received a letter from the DVLA telling me that they are sending me a new Driving Licence. This of course poses something of a conundrum in that do they mean the one I received yesterday or are they in fact sending me another.? And if it is the latter does that mean the first one is wrong or does it mean they want me to have two at once? On the other hand of course it might simply mean that the left and right hand parts of the DVLA believe in saving effort and communicating with each other via me. But that of course poses yet another question because if it's left to me to communicate between their two hands is that a result of 'austerity' or does it mean they couldn't manage it in the first place? There is of course a further question in that the first letter came via UK Mail (who no doubt rely on Royal Mail for sorting and delivery) while the second letter came by more traditional means - which poses even more potential questions. I shall simply carry on driving.

RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 Mike so bad a bit like the on board bus announcement telling you to hold on tight as the bus is about to move after it has already started moving. A couple of tests, first one on asbestos I scored 24 out of 23!! The second one was not so good. Dropped my Galaxy phone off at the Samsung center in Croydon and they apologised for not being able to fix it I two hours today. I was more than happy as thought it would take a week. It has the dreaded vertical pink line common to this model and is now my back up phone but worth getting it repaired before the two years cover runs out in a few months. Now drinking a nice Porter in our local micropub near East Croydon station.
Coombe Barton
So today repaired the fence and then picked up SWMBO from work. I hadn't't had time to clear up before going, so when I got home picked up from the kitchen floor the large (15 in x 12 in) multipart box that had all the screws carefully sorted into about thirty compartments. You know what's coming next, don't you? Memo to self - make sure the lid clips are secured before picking up a box of this nature. I may be will be some time. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 Perhaps Rick's Irish couple assumed the UK had some sort of national ticketing system like sensible counties do. It does make travel so much more simple.
Ozexpatriate
Perhaps Rick's Irish couple assumed the UK had some sort of national ticketing system like sensible counties do. It does make travel so much more simple. Cultural expectations are interesting. An Indian (subcontinental, not Native American) friend of mine told me about a colleague who arrived at the Hertz rental car desk here in Portland on his first trip to the United States. This colleague was perplexed and confused to discover that no driver was to be supplied with the rental car.
RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 Currently positioned at the Margam jump off point for my foray to the Cardiff show tomorrow. Whether this will be a solo assault or whether I will be reinforced by other members of the pod remains to be seen. I am certain that I will see other far flung visitors from the RM Web fold as well as the Cardiff contingent. Mutton is certainly on the menu!
RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 19, 2018 Spare day holiday planning: Me - I want to go to a model railway shop. Mrs NB - wants to go to a shopping mall (as does Junior and I guess I will if only to buy a pair of trainers) Junior NB - wants to go to a cake decorating supplies shop. At the end of the day, we all want to watch the ice hockey. So I we find all these places on google maps. The route from the hotel to the ice hockey is put in first.Google maps does it's business and provides a route. 1 hour and 6 minutes. Then adding the train shop, cake shop and mall makes the total journey 1 hour and 21 minutes. The biggest detour from the original route is less than 1/2 mile and most of that is negotiating the mall car lots............ Which proves you can please all of the people (*), all of the time..... On another day that involves just short of 200 miles of driving, a railway museum is about 1 mile out of our way. So that's my R&R for that journey sorted......... Cheers, Mick (*) all of the NB clan
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted January 19, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 19, 2018 (edited) I have to admit in a Houston mall car park pressing the button on the key fob to flash the lights and sound the alarm in order to find the car. We were not too far away. Edited January 19, 2018 by Tony_S
