Before you all fall over bored to tears at the thought of "Kansas City", appears it has some interesting "offerings", hence the choice;

...

iv) Plenty of Jazz clubs and BBQ restaurants for the evening entertainment

It is said that "everything is up to date" there, though personally I find that reference a little dated. (It might still seem that way from the perspective of Sooners*, though they wouldn't admit it.)

* Oklahomans

But will you go to Kansas?

What they do have in Kansas City is barbecue, and a winning NFL team.

(When living in Chicago I have taken fall weekend road trips to Vincennes, Indiana.)

Closing went well yesterday, not that I can envision getting that far in a house purchase and it going any other way?? We now own two houses.

Below a picture of the front of the place, modest but will suit our future needs, especially since three of the bedrooms including the master, are on the main floor;

Might there be, that most wondrous of mid-western things, a full basement - as befits a basement empire?  (I don't see any telltales.)

Indeed there IS, however most of it is finished with a guest suite et al which the Mrs covets to encourage visitors!

The unfinished utility section is a good starter, and with luck I can commandeer two of the walls in the finished area, my vision, NOT the CFO at present :O

Because it's a rambler-style house the footprint is much larger than our current two-story, and lends itself to a lot more options for empire building. :senile:

There are "discussions" ongoing as to the exact whereabouts and amount of space that I can take, there will be some, hopefully/probably a lot, but it's early days as they say!

 Now just have to wait for the car to be built in Stuttgart.... and cash-in some of my Premium Bonds!!.

Keith

Will it have a three-armed star or the combined coat of arms of Stuttgart and that of the State of Württemberg as it existed from 1922 till 1933 on it?

E‘ning all. A very autumnal day with heavy rain around noon is turning into night and I am turning circles on the temporarily merged Lines 1 and 9. The reason for this fusion are engineering works, of which there have been plenty this year already but which are far from finished.

Otherwise, not a lot else to report. Congrats on your estate purchase, Ian!

Generic C&Cs as appropriate. Later...

Evenin' each,

Many congrats to Andy!

A very kernackered and aching GDB, resident of Sutt, here. The good news is that after spending quite a while cleaning kitchen & conservatory this morning I seem to have banked a multitude of brownie points. After lunch I retired to the railway room and actually did a bit more work on the layout.

A couple of beers and a light meal accompanied by some Shiraz followed and that's made me feel slightly better although my knee is hurting considerably. Quite how this happens as it's made of metal & plastic I'm bu##ered if I know.

It would appear that I can expect a slightly easier day tomorrow but the workload will be ramped up as the week progresses. This should of course mean more points in the bank. :yes:

Sodexo -  couple of years back our Students' union President based her election on getting rid of them - won by miles.

However the new people - most staff bring a packed lunch. When i joined the University, and we had in-house catering, most staff ate from them. Nuff said?

Example: "there will be cake." There is - in one cubic inch portions.

With olive oil and garlic?

Most of them seem to have been eating the latter.

And car saga - it was the alternator - back now.

Today we dropped the car at the garage before 8, Sandy dropped my on one side of Hinckley near her school - I walked across town. Instead of having to wait for an hour as I was buying my ticket they announced the train. So after a sprint across the footbridge (with bl00dy long ramps) I just made it, so got into work an hour earlier than I'd thought. Good job I did, been a hectic day. Finished teaching at 6, then hike back to New Street. Sandy picked me up now we're just feeding.

Just looked at the Health App on the phone - says I've walked 10.8 miles today. And it feels it!

Evening all from Estuary-Land. My new 'flat-pack' baseboard arrived this morning, I've opened up the packaging to do an inspection and everything looks OK so I'll be doing a dry construction tomorrow. I intent to make a few modifications for operational reasons as it at present builds into an enclosed box with access only from the front and above. My intention is to operate it from the side and use cassets instead of a fiddle yard.

EDIT Good luck Andy.

I haven't ever bought a brand new car but did look at a few before getting my first used Freelander. I was quite surprised how long the waiting time was for the car to be built. Aditi's sister ordered a VW Golf a couple of years ago and it took 8 months to arrive. Possibly because they had every possible "extra" added except for sat nav.

...or maybe they needed the extra time to, er, reprogramme the car so that the cheat software didn't get triggered....

Possibly because they had every possible "extra" added except for sat nav.

It might have arrived sooner had they ordered the sat nav. ('Loaded' is a more common configuration than 'loaded except for xxx'.)

Here they do a dealer search to see if there is anywhere in the 'local' area (perhaps a 60 mile radius) with the configuration specified.

My last two cars have been bought brand new, the first because I was tempted by the trade in offer on what can only be described as an old banger. I had been intending to keep it for more than the two years that I had it but I decided to replace it when I retired. The second car is now more than 9 years old but since I retired has done far less mileage than the car I had for two years.

Never had a brand new car - don't see why I should have to take the depreciation. The CX is probably the closest thing I've had to new, at 79,000 miles. Given that Citroen M25 engines are capable of 250,000 to 300,000 miles without major attention (and have a cam chain rather than a belt), I'd say this one seems barely run-in.

EDIT: Hmmm....I wonder if I could plumb in one of those Italian triple air-horn sets?

My current car is an end of the range model and I think had everything from the accessory list on it. I bought it when it was six months old and had been a Land Rover company vehicle. I have no intention of trading it in for a while. I don't know what else the hideously expensive dog travel box would fit into. Edited by Tony_S

Evening all

After dinner, as it was still not raining, I went outside and managed to clear all the stuff from behind the shed, where does it all come from? If the weather is better tomorrow I'm hoping to move at least 1 of the gate posts, or maybe even both!

After all my efforts in the garden I was too tired to go swimming, which was a bit disappointing as tonight would have been my last open water session of the year, so I'll be going back to pool swimming soon.

I've had several new cars over the last 27 years or so, but this is the first one that I'VE actually bought and I'm very pleased with it. It's just passed the 500 mile mark over the weekend.

AndyB. Congratulations on the new job.

Andyram. Good luck with your interview.

Goodnight all

Anchovy class

Anchovies are not class.  They are an excessively aromatic abomination.  Unless they are in Worcestershire Sauce and that is, in turn, being applied to cheese-on-toast.

Just escorted SWMBO to the Peruvian Bear Station and seen her safely onto the Night Riviera for a week in Lostwithiel.  Talking shop for just a moment here the recently repainted loco in GWR livery (thankfully retained on repaint) looks absolutely magnificent.  57604.  But it sounds very wrong indeed for something wearing lined Brunswick and polished brass name and number plates.
