Evening all from Estuary-Land. Met up with Tony in Tesco's this afternoon and had a little chat. Tony mentioned the monitering device that I mentioned that arrived a couple of days ago. Still got to get it charged up, it charges from the USB socket on the lap top, I'd plugged it in last night, then switched the lap top off at the mains. Reading the instructions nowhere does it say what a healthy BP or heart rate should be, my GP looks at the reading and just says "Thats OK" and then removes the arm band. I did receive a letter this morning saying I had an appointment for a medical check up. It turned out to be from a private medical firm and they were going to charge me £129 for the priviledge so I saved myself £129 by throwing it in the bin.

Phil,

Bad mistake.  You are going to die unless you attend their check up.  Actually, you are going to die anyway, just £129 richer.

Unless you are diabetic, then don't worry up to 140 over 90.  Pulse up to 80.

I have a pulse in the low 50s and resps of about 8.  In theory, I should be on oxygen!

It'll give you a sense of where your blood pressure sits and whether a trip to the gp is in order.

My BP was 265 over 180 a few years ago and my gp sent me straight to casualty where I spent four miserable days while the medics tried to get me down to a less dangerous BP.

Worth keeping an eye on.

Cheers,

Keith

Ah, but what you have to ask yourself is why they didn't give you that without you having to hold their feet to the fire, and moving forward are they going to resent the fact that you did?

Just something to consider.

I have asked myself this several times. However, if I agree to the new terms and they do resent it in the future there is already an agreed and signed for caveat.

Evening

Well the warm weather of the weekend has turned very autumnal, it had cooled down enough for the heating to come on this morning. As I expected I've already had to go out and retrieve the bins once tonight, they are out ready for tomorrow's collection. The gusting winds have really been making the trees in the school field behind the workshop bend and the roses in the garden have also taken a battering. Thankfully it all seems to have quietened down a bit now, but we are still getting the odd heavy gust. What blows over once I'm in bed can bl00dy well stay blown over!

Tonight we completed the Sainsbury's Grand Prix a day early as we want to get an early night tomorrow, as we have a full day planned for Thursday, more on that tomorrow.

DM. Good luck with your interview on Thursday.

Goodnight all.

Interesting. My normal BP is 126/82 and it classifies it as high-normal and should be below 120/80.

Considering it's been the same for the last 35 years I'm not going to worry

A relaxing evening catching up on various parts of RMweb. However, I must remember not to have a packet of Jaffa Cakes near me at the same time. There's none left.

Night all

I've had borderline low pressure for a couple of years, and occasionally they seem to have trouble finding a pulse.

Whenever they take a blood sample from me they always have difficulty finding a suitable vein.

I got a good tip from a phlebotomist a while ago, she advised that I should drink a couple of glasses of water before having a blood test, it makes finding a vein easier!

Tried that. Doesn't seem to make much difference.

When I went on a course in the UK we had a Saudi with us, he was absolutely amazed when seeing children (particularly female) walking down the streets to primary or secondary school. He didn't believe it was possible without them being attacked and raped...

Back in 2001, I took a phone call from one of our partners in Israel who asked me how we were coping with the smoke?  I was confused and didn't understand what she meant so she then said that all their TV news programmes had shown the burning of cattle in the Foot and Mouth outbreak and had gained the impression that every farmer was burning their livestock in every field and so the whole country was covered in smoke. She found it hard to believe that we were all OK, there was no smoke and the nearest outbreak was miles away. The power of Television . . . . !

I would have said 100-120/60-80 is good if the first figure goes over 140 take action now. However I did find this chart https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bloodpressureuk.org/BloodPressureandyou/Thebasics/Bloodpressurechart/main_content/wFvl/large&imgrefurl=http://www.bloodpressureuk.org/BloodPressur

This should be at rest. If you run round the garden a few times then test it would be higher

Well it was certainly smoky round here. The beef industry took years to recover.

Computer paper in North America is generally available in one size -- 8.5"x11" (letter). This is available in half a dozen weights, a bunch of brightnesses and a few surfaces. Also varied colours. And pre-printed pictures.

There is also 8.5"x14" (legal) in about 3 variations. If you have a drafting specialist, you may be able to find larger sizes. I use legal for printing the downloaded buildings in A3/A4, but there's no heavy weight.

Continuous forms used to come in 14" or 16" by 11" but that was 30 years ago.

Metric paper is unheard of.

Greetings all from ...... Was in Calgary for the Tornado. Saying that, Trochu is about as close to Calgary as the boring Borough is to Norwich.

Far too much to catch up on with the phone but will read when I get back to civilisation.

Where am I? The answer is in my avatar. Dinner and beers on the patio just watching the westbound Empire Builder.

You're just up the road then. Swing by and I'll give you a tour on the boat. (We've done Glacier and back in a day from here.)

Good morning all,

Dry now after all the wind and rain yesterday and a bright & breezy day with sunny spells is forecast with the chance of more rain later.

Yesterday's muddling attempt was another minor mess so that has been ripped up as well. I need to rethink it.

Today I must phone the local council as a small (15ftish) tree on the verge outside is now leaning a bit and seems to be rather wobbly when pushed. It has also lost one small branch. As its direction of fall seems to be aimed at my front garden fence and drive where I normally park some action is required. Hope they're quicker with that than they are issuing new bins.

First task though after breakfast will be to watch the second Lions match at 8.35. They were somewhat jaded on Saturday which has been put down to jet lag although the other side who were made up mainly with part timers really played out of their skins.  Can't make any excuses today and it will be a sterner test with, I think, 8 All Blacks in the opposition. Then it starts to get even harder.

As I'll be watching the match The Boss has been asked to get a bus home from work. That went well.  It went even better when I mentioned that there are another 3 weekday games to come. :threaten:

It may improve slightly when I tell her  that one of them is next Tuesday which is our wedding anniversary and she's on holiday so can watch it with me!   :imsohappy:

Have a good one,

Bob. (who seems to developing a death wish)

Good morning one and all

Yesterday was unremarkable - fodder run, ironing, heavy rain, too much time in front of the TV - until the evening when there was a fine slide show.  If I can read my writing, or even if I cannot, I must turn them into a report today.  I also managed to find my poll card.  Bless my soul, the voting station has moved from its normal location.

Somehow the pile of laundry awaiting attention has grown.  This is ominous.  However, if I do it my mind may be taken off my appointment with the Prof on Friday.  Worth a try ...

Warm thoughts and best wishes to all in distress

Chris

Evening good people.

Scorer course rebuilt, parcels made up and posted, more stuff put on Ebay..

There used to be a retired BA Jumbo jet Captain who did after dinner talks. One of his stories was about the cleaner in the Air Traffic Control Centre unplugging the power to the main radar display to plug her hover in.. on checking up it did actually happen!

Big problem is if the power was switched off and then switched  back on before everything ground to a halt.. things go bad very quickly. If you saw the back up gen sets we used to put in hospitals and the Terminals at Heathrow and Gatwick...they were huge!

Ian A.. fill the page up and then ask them if there is anything else they need on the page...

I remember a spreadsheet for Company KPIs for an unnamed Hospital trust - an A3 sheet full of "information".... which I can guarantee was set up look impressive but mean the square root of bu$$er all!

Sleep well all!

Baz

You refer to David Gunson; his talk is (or was) available under the title 'What goes up Might come down'! Well worth a listen!

Also (as on FB), may I wish Debs and John all the very best. I'd like to add anything eloquent, but cannot really think of anything beyond this very essential wish…

Well said, Dom. Debs's news on there is very stark. Every ER needs to keep everything tightly crossed for better news.
