Ian Abel
<minor rant check-in> Managed some modeling, mostly in the form of needing to add all the "details" to my Hornby Schools "St Pauls" and my Bachmann 4MT tank. Why is it, that on EVERY Bachmann loco I have, the details attach easily with either super glue or my actual favourite small part adhesive "false nail glue" that stuff rocks, easy to use and fast acting with a nice built in applicator, but I digress, the Hornby carp has a hard time staying put using ANYTHING it seems. Pity they don't take a note from Bachmann and make the stuff easy to attach. The Bachmann parts also always seem to have sensible slots/locators and almost hold themselves in place, the Hornby bollocks pretty much just rests there and you PRAY any glue you use might actually take hold eventually I attached six steps and all the other sundry parts to the 4MT in about 5 minutes, then spent about an hour PLUS trying to convince the Schools loco to keep hold of the four steps it has!!! <end Rant> Edited May 29, 2017 by Ian Abel
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 29, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 29, 2017 On my first trip to the continent, more than 40 years ago we were a bit worried coming back as we were well over the duty free limits. Turned out to be no problem at all as in front of us was a Transit van full of hippies that attracted the attention of the custom officers. We were just waved through as they were taking the seats out of the Transit.

RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2017 Ian: right now my go-to glue is WS foam glue which is a nice rubbery stuff that seems to tack to everything. Except the cat seems to be able to pull apart the WS trees. My next purchase will be the UV setting glue -- I think my dentist uses it on fillings. RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 30, 2017 (edited) Good morning all, Dry and a bit cloudy at the moment although the sun has made an appearance. A warm bright morning with sunny spells is on offer but there may be some showers later. Rather a busy time here which is why I was MIA yesterday. Sunday's BBQ went down a storm (literally) First visitors arrived at 1.00PM, I lit the two BBQs at 3.00 and almost on cue the heavens opened at 3.05. It continued to hammer down all the time we were cooking and eating. Luckily, in view of the forecast, SiL Steve had brought an extra pop up gazebo which we erected on the patio over the BBQs so we managed to keep (mainly) dry. (it was secured just by tying firmly to anything to hand including shed, fence posts and even a very large, fat, heavy sleeping garden gnome named Colin in honour of one of my friends.) As I suspected there was far too much meat bought so that which wasn't cooked has now been frozen for the next one in two weeks time. A considerable amount was drunk and we could have filled our stupid recycling box 5 times over with the amount of empties. Still waiting for the larger wheelie bin ordered a month ago from the Council. I don't normally get hangovers unless I drink far too much. Yesterday I must admit I had a mild one. I don't normally get chronic indigestion as I take medication for a hiatus hernia. (unless I drink far too much red wine) Yesterday I had chronic indigestion all morning. I gradually worked off these ailments by clearing up everything but before I could take down the gazebos it started raining again. Another attempt will be made today. Apart from that nothing else planned so I may do some muddling or just play with the trains. Have a good one, Bob. Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all There are mixed fortunes from the garden. Yesterday I tackled some of the weeds that grow between every quarry tile. Some could not be hoed or spaded out without moving a tub of chicken manure. Guess what: the handle came off the tub and the whole thing disintegrated, depositing a dollop of dung just where I did not want it. Some of it has been shovelled to a part of the garden where I do want it and where it may do some good in the future. The rest must dry before I can sweep or shovel it away. Meanwhile those blasted weeds will not believe their luck. Amid all this calamity there is rejoicing. I gathered no fewer than 10 strawberries yesterday and they will be placed atop my cereal this morning. Normally I expect to pick the first fruit on or around 15th June so this is a great improvement. I do hope that they have not peaked too early. More good news from the kitchen is that the lemon jelly into which I put some mandarin oranges actually set and is very nice when topped with a splodge of evaporated milk. Sister Diabetes should be pleased because it is not a crusty fruit tart. Perhaps. Or not. Today sees a routine fodder run, perhaps a further triffid cull and almost certainly some unspecified pottering. Warm thoughts to all in distress Chris
emt_911
Morning all. A grey start to the day with a chance of getting wet. My work related motivation seems to be disappearing at a rapid rate of knots which means that it's time to have a holiday. Time for another coffee. Have a good day everyone. Robert
Morning All, It looks like we have another scorcher ahead of us today. On the way home from work yesterday there was one point where the thermometer in the car was showing 37°C! However, it is due to be a bit cooler today. Time for a coffee! Have a good day everyone... RMweb Gold Popular Post Oldddudders Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 30, 2017 Sherry was in the passport queue half an hour ago, so things are looking good for her to be here by 9.30. As to whether her hips make me go beep I will leave that unanswered. Yesterday Alison and I spent quite some time clearing and cleaning the terasse with a hose-broom, which did very little, and then a pressure-washer, which did marginally more. There are some rust stains on the new-ish tiles left by the cast metal bits of a couple of slatted benches. Nasty substances may be called into play, but not in Alison's presence as eco is everything to her. Lawns have been mowed and a wash is about to air. Remarkable given that we were threatened with storms and downpours but have seen no more than a few drops in days. It is dreary this morning but should improve. I hope returnees to work cope with the disappointment.

RMweb Premium Popular Post NGT6 1315 Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 30, 2017 As for yesterday's goings-on here… In the fairly oppressive heat of the current summerly spell, 1338-1329 were awarded a break at Philipp-Reis-Straße while passengers continued their trip on the scheduled rail replacement buses. And as the sun was setting, my second half saw me at Taucha with the set of 1347-1313, which I kept until RTD at 1.29 am.
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2017 Morning All Quick catch up before taxi run, then back to deal with paperwork, Sister Drac (my that seems to be coming round ever so often these days), a few visits in town, then back to taxi-ing again, so possibly not back again today, depending on other commitments. All posts read and rated, and as usual, generic greetings are sent to the ailing, deserving, etc... Regards to All Stewart

The Lurker
Morning all, returnee to work here, only to find the e-mail system has gone down. It's at times like these that you remember how much work depends on responding to and communicating with e-mails. The alarm is being recoupled this morning - although the alarm company did not send a text promising the scheduled visit time which they normally do. I shall call them when they open their office as Mrs Lurker does not want to be stuck in the house all morning. Now to have a quick browse of the site before seeing if I can get IT to make the e-mails work

We were just waved through as they were taking the seats out of the Transit. The opposite happened to me; driving back through customs my Mk. 2 Escort chinked and rattled with cheap French wine, we looked as scruffy as a carload of teenagers at the end of a fortnights camping would do yet we too were waved through as the respectable looking middle aged couple in a Mercedes sports car in front of us were having their car stripped. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 30, 2017 Morning all from a slightly overcast village. Yesterday went well with various bits of muddling done. We had a good curry at our local curry house which used to be a pub and is within walking distance. Today we are off to Bury to ride the East Lancs. Beth bought me a day out on a steam train voucher for Christmas so today is the day. Looking forward to it. Hopefully a bit of time at the clubroom tonight. Regards to all. Jamie
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 30, 2017 Morning all. There are some patches of blue sky visible through the cloud but it isn't raining. Not a lot planned for today, actually not much for the week until Friday when I will have to have my aorta scanned. Apparently offered to all men during their 65th year. Update, we may go (or may not) to somewhere along the Southend Arterial(A127) to return some M&S stuff and then either a garden centre or B&Q. RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2017 Morning. Breezy with broken cloud. I know how it feels. Rehabilitation continues apace, going OK but by the end of the day of not doing a lot I am both sore and exhausted. Getting the ankle to work properly is an unexpected issue, to me if not the physio! After so long asleep it feels like everything is stuck inside. This is because it is. I'm not personally on Google maps, but John's wife is, hanging out the washing at their old house! TT friends coming around shortly to take me out for the day - nice folk.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 30, 2017 Morning from an overcast but much cooler Surrey. Much better than the humidity of the last couple of days. Been to the doctors for blood pressure test and review. Got back home and awaiting bus when I get a message to call at ththe doctors for repeat prescription. Too late now to go back. However dropped off broken glasses at opticians nad for just £25 they will replace the frames so need to go back there aswell to collect them. Might have to take a half day off work now as can't keep eep disappearing from work. Now on train to London Bridge.
RMweb Premium AndyB Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2017 Morning all an overcast with hints of sunshine breaking through. Rain forecast. A quick tour of the garden shows that clematis "Red Cardinal" is coming in to flower partnered with white iceberg roses. Clematis "The President" will be following along shortly. Numerous goldfinches are flitting on to the various bird feeders that Mary Poppins aka swmbo has dotted around the garden. Physio later after a few hours of glazing over at my text book. A trip to Exbury is planned for later in the week, although I suspect the kids would have preferred a day on the beach. Hoping to hear back from a few of the potential employers where I've cast my CV. My rule of thumb now is "the bigger the company, the longer they take!!" By way of example one of the adverts asked for a particular formal qualification -or a commitment to undertake it if employed. Between the first interview and hearing back from them I've nearly gained said qualification and am lining up to add a language qualification too whilst they go through references.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 30, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 30, 2017 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sun was shining this morning but now clouding over but according to the forecast it should stay dry. The weather forecast is about the only thing worth switching the box on for now, nine days to go and I'm fed up with all this election stuff, I've cast my vote already as I have a postal vote. Might even do a bit of gardening today, the poppies are coming on well but only a few buds yet. Thats it for now, be back later.
