Morning all.

Lots of positive waves being sent to Debs and John and all others who will.

Slept OK..not woke up twice so the gel must have worked.

Due to rain my cricket match today is off. I may get some modelling done or I may not ..depends on her indoors.

Have as good a day as you can.

Baz

Good morning-good morning, E.R's.....with our best wishes for your day.

Debs. & John (my dear 'Passepartout')

Good morning Debs and John. Good to hear from you.

Good morning to all other ERs. Welcome to Ban Collar Day.

Sleep must have been adequate as I don't seem to require more. Now what is a chap to to with a day which has dawned grey and damper than the average piece of seaweed?

Breakast! That's what. Everyone should celebrate breakfast at least once a day.

Morning all.

It rained somewhat in the night. Garden looks washed and tidy.

If it brightens up there will probably be a lot of traffic to Southend so we don't plan to go anywhere outside Benfleet.

Morning all and after thunderstorms and heavy rain starting at 02:00 its now an overcast day here.

More rain is forecast which means I won't be having to water the garden today.

Lavender, hollyhocks were planted in the border yesterday and a rose re-located.

Earth Observation satellites may have picked up heat plume from my postcode last night as I had an idea. Heading out to the garage shortly to test this more thoroughly.

I feel sorry for the BA passengers. Years ago I was on a flight that was delayed by 24 hours due to engine problems. The way the airline handled it was atrocious. I hate to think of how they are dealing with a large scale problem. Reputation in tatters and some bargain flights to get people to use them again is my prediction!

I enjoyed the BBC2 Italian road trip last night, partly as I'd been to many of the places and gone to university at one of them. It reminded me that one afternoon I was driving down Modena High St when my passenger pointed out a car from a "Mille Miliga" heading in the opposite direction. The driver was Stirling Moss, apparently. Later that term I got to try out a works Bugatti EB110 (?). Sadly not whilst it was moving though. Just to help fix it. The factory was spotless. My Ford Escort looked less than cool parked outside the now-abandoned factory which was an essay in glass and marble.

Morning all. A reasonable nights sleep interspersed with a couple of thunderstorms which woke me for a change.

So far all that I have recovered from the laptop has been corrupted to the point of being unusable.

However. my day has been brightened by seeing a post from Debs.

It now looks like my planned easy and relaxing day is going to be spent re-writing my CV.

Have a good day everyone

Thought for today!

Yes. I must have had my twenty-something head on when I applied for a place in the 2018 London Marathon. In October I shall know the result and whether I get to prove my long-held assertion that I could still run one. I've done three London's as a rather younger chap.

I have reached the stage where, TBH, the mere idea of running to catch a bus is a bad one!

Morning, pleut here, as Smiffy would say.

Nice to see Debs posting, although we connect elsewhere.

Minor laptop issue here too, Windaz 10 did a mega update, now each time I boot I get an error on accelerometer.dll or something - it has an accelerometer?  Also despite the box being checked, it won't automatically connect to the interweb either.  Microsoft, yet one more tedious cockup.

I assume it is an HP laptop. Yes they do have accelerometers.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Nice to hear from Debs again and I hope things are getting better. Dry at the moment but clouding over and more rain predicted for this afternoon so I'd expect an early return by the hoards heading for Southend. Seeing as gardening is out I will have to find something else to do. Thats it for now, be back later.

Morning all. Just.

Ouah Neil, il pleut ici! Comme une vache pisse as the French say...

Huuuge electrical storms last night (and loss of internet) passing to the west of us going north, hitting St Malo according to a friend there. Massive thunder and lightning in and above the clouds, but nothing at ground level here, just high winds. Then the rain started this morning.

Just waiting for the window man to come and have a last look at the windows before fitting a new window/roller shutter in the kitchen. Will also ask for an estimate for a roller for the front door. Then totally secure.

On a side note - does anyone have any experience of putting gazebos on patios and using weights around the legs to secure them? I've seen weights which are plastic tubes which clamp around the legs and are filled with water. Has anyone ever used them?

Best wishes to the ailing, Baz and his back, Neil's foot and others. And the others I've overlooked whilst skimming.

(And well done Fernando - great showing and in for the win  until the engine blew...)

I've used 4 pint milk containers filled with water hung on the guy ropes and that seemed to work.

My experience with plastic weighted (with dry sand) thingies on garden umbrellas would best be described as "disappointing ". They gave way where the tube joined the base. Perhaps a gazebo having many feet would survive better. I have never owned a gazebo.

My neighbours have a rather substantial gazebo. They are away at present. It is probably bolted to their decking/patio. If I can't see over the fence I will ask them after half term!

If it is an HP device see if there is a update for Driveguard for your laptop on the HP website.

Well another windaz update fixed the interweb issue, but trawling the HP site got me nowhere due to the fact it is written for people who know what they are doing, and understand the jargon - which doesn't apply to this nuts and bolts engine engineer.  I gave up.  My accelerometer is full of eels.

Dick, it is pleuting chiens et chats, rather than vaches pisse-ing here!  Vive Franglais.

Sad to read of John Noakes' passing this morning.

Clearly a release after living with dementia for a number of years.

But for all that I can't help but smile when I think of the adventures he shared with us all on Blue Peter.

For nostalgia's sake I've just purchased a Blue Peter album No. 8 (1971) and look forward to reliving a tale of Bleep  and Booster and a globe-shaped car*!

* I'm still hoping to buy one of those - apparently there may be quite a few of them on the roads by 2015.

I think growing old is easy. You just stop doing things. It is the not giving in to it that is hard.

However once you start giving in it becomes even harder to reverse the process.

Yesterday I did something that took me back to my early days in the army.

Cutting the lawn edges...........................with a pair of scissors!

I am still awaiting the PH to carry out the bearing change on the petrol strimmer.

He needs to get his priorities sorted as he ordered bearings last week, but they were for an electric disco ball for the  Scouts!

I can see a trip to one of the big garden sheds to buy a cheap electric variety, although the Obergrumpenfuher was quite taken with the neat finish achieved.

I have just been having a chat with credit card security. They tried to send a code to Aditi to authorise a transaction. However they don't have her phone number. All sorted.

I was also on the phone to MiL for quite a long time as she was having a problem finding the tennis on her tv. After about 15 minutes of incorrect button pressing she asked if perhaps she should put her glasses on. All was well after that. All those years giving advice about computers over the phone came in useful.
