....I once lived on Staten Island for two months. I remember having a cup of early morning coffee outside when my next door neighbor coma out and yelled “Good morning, Staten Island!”

Within a few moments the mailman came - then the door opened again. He came out again and yelled “F@#k you, Staten Island!”....

I would have liked to have a video camera recording these priceless moments.

BTW, was your neighbour in a coma when he came out, or was he merely Italian? :jester:

....Whereas in Manhattan I could watch my curvy neighbor, apparently examine, her naked, delicious breasts over coffee.

Another video camera moment, but would probably get arrested.

Belated morning to all !  Rain has now decided not to arrive - online BBC chart has changed every hourly update. Still, much better in this neck of the woods to go outside and look at the three visible horizons.  Quite mild and so washing is on the line.

Last weekend we three went on a coach trip to England, to somewhere called London to see The Lion King - quite superb, I must say.

Stayed overnight at the Park Inn, Heathrow which was also very luxurious. Must find out where they buy their pillows since Mrs RhBBob did not snore at all !!!

Sunday, we went back into London for some retail therapy In Oxford Street for Mrs RhBBob and the younger version of her.  No, I bought precisely nothing  :)

No, she was sitting across the table from me at the time, having breakfast. This was after knocking on my door with a thermos of coffee and fresh baked Danish’s - she hated my girlfriend (who did not live with me)......

Best, Pete.

Hello again from Estuary-Land. After dropping the car off I done a little bit of shopping, not long been in when I received a call to say that the car was done, only the front pads needed replacement, not bad after 20,000 miles. Off to collect the car now, back later.

Morning...

Decided I need to retire AND find a way to get more than 24 hours in a day!

In an off-hand "oh by the way" sort of explanation, yesterday evening, as I settled in to work on configuring both my new PC and contemplate the sound decoder install, I was presented with;

i) Oh we're off to see Trevor and Meagan for a quick visit this evening (lasted three hours!) - that shot last night

ii) Did I mention we've got company for dinner Thursday evening, and guest staying overnight. There goes Thursday.

iii) Ahh, Friday evening you're going with me to Delilahs (the Mrs great-niece) play/dance recital/whatever, I zoned out at that point. Knock Friday evening on the head.

iv) Don't forget Saturday we're out for dinner/the evening. <Noooooooooo>!!!

Looks like TONIGHT is free - not holding my breath though!

Besides all of the above not much going on, the rest of the time outside work, which best I can tell amounts to this evening and whatever I can wrangle out of Saturday, is all my own, whoopee! :O  :jester:

+2 and sunny driving in, snow expected to arrive Friday afternoon, still predicting light amounts here but could be 6+ inches or more and blizzard conditions to the north and west.

Enjoy HUMP day.

The disadvantages of retirement

1. You no longer have the trains, planes (and boats) to/from work to moan about

2. You no longer have the management of said trains, planes and boats to moan about,

3. You have a drastically increased availability for 'just' jobs - such as 'just do the hoovering please dear', or 'just rebuild the garden wall'

4. You no longer have workmates to moan to about being saddled with just jobs

5. Time not only passes quicker (that's an age thing) but also completely vanishes (that a retirement thing)

6. But because you gave more time you can be given even more just jobs

7. You might get a lot more time to spend at home when you thought you could be having days out

8. You still carry on getting older but quite possibly not being appreciated for the fact that you are obviously become much wiser *except in terms of avoiding just jobs)

The advantages of retirement

A. You get a pension (probably and if you're lucky

B. (In the UK at any rate) you turn into someone getting money of the NHS instead of putting it in, and

C. If you're very lucky attractive young ladies get up and gjve you their seat on the London UndergrounD (doesn't happen on 'buses)

D. You can chat up ladies young and old to your hearts content because they'll regard us as 'harmless' and not posing any sort of threat

Month's supply of cat food and litter from the nice people at Zooplus. Finally found it 3 doors down and the box mangled. Luckily the contents are intact. Bunch of useless sh!tweasels. Complaint sent off, not that it will do any good. Also contacted Zooplus about using alternative shipping in the future as this is the 3rd issue we've had in the past year.

A similar thing happened to us a few weeks ago. We had a card pushed through our letterbox informing us that our parcel was next door. But, 'WE' weren't expecting anything, however next door, who were supposed to have our parcel were! She made several phone calls to YODEL and the seller, to no avail. It was finally sorted out when a neighbour over the road called to next doors informing them that THEY had a parcel for them, their son took it in and forgot to mention anything.

Ian,

It's no good retiring, as you will suddenly find that you have so many jobs to do that you'll wonder how you ever managed to get enough time to work and help run a house and bring up kids.

Fwiw we run a diary on a big board in the kitchen. First thing on the board takes priority, so for instance, if I've arranged a drunken and debauched session in the muddy hollow, that is where I will be: I won't be being polite whilst being fed overcooked veg at the home of Doris and Horace down the road.

The Obergrumpenfuhrer initiated this system some time back and it works well for both of us.

Don't get me wrong, it doesn't stop us socialising and going out together, but I did learn that planning 'me sessions' well in advance, does free up time as that time block is taken from the diary of social eventing.

However, you are in a jam if you forget to make an entry, and woe betide the person who tries to sneak an entry onto the board (late) in an effort to get out of something.

Yodel and DHHell: sounds like a marriage made in the land of Beelzebub.  :butcher:  Wonder what percentage of the delivery (sic) market they account for?

Is that correct deliveries, or just deliveries to random addresses?

I did, and still trying to determine if her breasts were delicious or the coffee was, or if she poured coffee over them.

Who cares? Was my initial comment - 25 years later...

New York women are not adverse to being “forward".

Ian A.  Yesterday the Weather Channel were warning of a possible Blizzard in the Minneapolis area for Friday night - hope this does not affect your diary. Or a) they were exaggerating - probable, or b) Who cares? We put up with this and just get on with it...

Best, Pete.

Washing machine delivered this morning and I've connected it up this afternoon. Currently plucking up courage to try it out!

In view of the comments about retirement above I must ask if it's a good idea to let the domestic authorities know that you can actually use the washing machine.

It is far too technical for me - and as for the tumble drier, that is the work of the devil.  Hence when the management has a  day or two away I am left with written instructions on how to operate  the washing machine and these obviously are taken down on her return and equally obviously I can't ever remember what they said.

Indeed, and they still are, but that's north and west of us, still only predicting 1-2 inches here.

Then again, 25 years ago, on Halloween they predicted 1-2 inches that evening and we got 28 over the course of the night and next couple of days, the only time since I've lived here that everything came to a dead stop for a couple of days! :jester:  :O

I can use an iron.

Only for venering though.

Train home is late coming in so not waiting for it in case it gets any later, so we are getting an earlier service to ECR so at least we have a little more choice of trains home even if it ends up being that same train.

The Boss is a technophobe, in fact she even has trouble with the three gang light switch in the hall. This means that I have to give her driving lessons on all appliances but after she caught me loading various multi-coloured items along with whites into the washing machine I am not allowed near it! (I was never going to switch it on - I'm not that stupid)

She won't let me do the ironing either but that's because she actually enjoys doing it.

I worry about her sometimes.

Good evening everyone

My first task this morning was to retrieve the bins, as they'd both been emptied before we got up.

Well the weather has hampered me a little today, it's rained on and off nearly all day, so I've been inside my workshop most of the day, although I did manage what little bit of sanding needed doing outside before the heavy rain started. I much prefer to use my electric, sanders and saws in particular outside, as they can create an awful lot of dust, which I prefer to keep outside whenever possible. I also like to do any glueing outside too, as it inevitably drips, so it means I don't get all over the floor!

All 3 sections of the bucket have now been assembled, after a quick sanding to get all the edges neat, they will be ready for painting. This will probable be on Friday, because tomorrow morning I'm taking full advantage of the fact that Mrs W is out at her Zumba class and that I've got the kitchen all to myself, so I'm cake baking for the grandchildren, who will be descending upon us Friday evening for tea.

The weather also put paid to my walk this afternoon, but I don't feel too bad as I've been active most of the day.

Evening all.

Back from a nice lunch with our friends. It was in the same village where the kennels we use for Robbie are located so I had to mutter "pub not kennels" as we drove there.

I haven't had breakfast in NYC. I have been to the state of New York but not the city. We drove over a bridge from Vermont. It was very quiet.

Nothing too exciting planned for the next day or so. The bank manager will be coming to talk about interest rates tomorrow which shouldn't take long. Hopefully he will be letting me know if we qualify for the really useful credit card. I suspect we are the light relief during his visit schedule.

Now we seemed to be based at home again and not on holiday I would quite like to start doing something with the model railway again. Station fencing, platform furniture and a signal. Careful research of photographs only indicates one signal in the scenic part of the layout. Perhaps I should make it work as there is only one.

I must say much of the above - and indeed some daily posts here - makes a poor case for marriage, especially after retirement! I could never sign up for SWMBO-syndrome. I certainly didn't the first time around, nor this. If Sherry is staying with me, then I see it as my job to be the entertaining host, and we consult about activities beyond the home. If I am in Torbay then  I try to pull my weight on chores, positively enjoy shopping together, and find I am offered plenty of opportunities to be footloose and fancy-free when Sherry is busy with theatre, singers, church, whatever. So, for example, swanning off to Paignton Model Shop or Kernow, probably both, to spend implausible amounts on models is recognised as part of the deal. As Paul, her vicar, described it, we have a semi-detached marriage and it works fine. Paul was not a little envious.....

Re-negotiating your deal remains an option, chaps!

Yes, that is the strangest phenomenon; that, once retired, you need (at least one) a calendar.  During 46 years of work, off and on, I never needed such a thing as every spare moment was taken up with my work/life imbalance duties and even now that the Kids are 40 and 38, I still find their needs - plus those of two grandkids - are somewhere near the top of the agenda.

I have actually just returned from the 'garage' having finally completed about 10 feet of catenary on the extended 4 foot board - I started back in May  :jester:
