That's a new one on me - hope it works out well. I'm very wary of after-market protective treatments after a Volvo dealer wrecked my carpets. Of course, when I complained neither the dealer nor the company that made the stuff would accept any responsibility.

IT's being done by a specialist car detailer who also does high value cars. I've seen the results on a couple of my neighbours cars over the last couple of years and although a bit on the expensive side is well worth the outlay.

Morning all. Yet another good nights sleep but certainly feel better than I did yesterday morning.

I hope that those attending Scaleforum enjoy the day and the journey's aren't too arduous.

Time for another coffee before the delights of travelling on Southern Failways.

Have a good day everyone

Morning all from sunny France. We had a good trip out yesterday and got the bits we needed as well as having a good hour on Angouleme station. Various trains came through and one was TGV 325 which holds the world speed record at 515Kmh. I suspect that they've changed the wheels back to the normal size since the speed record run.

Breakfast has been consumed and I'm shortly off to the Mairie to look at a presentation about wind farms. The village is jointly promoting a small one with the neighbouring village s.o I will find out if it will mean a reduction in our local taxes. I won't hold my breath. After that it has been decreed by the authorities that today is a day of rest and no work. I suspect however that various tasks will be pointed out to me at some point.

Regards to all.

Jamie

(sounds a bit like a Thomas The Tank Engine story - I refuse to call it Thomas The Train.

Good news. Just like I refuse to call our railway stations train stations. Next I'll be spreading apricot jelly on my toast.

And they have the audacity to tell us Europe tells us what to do! Let's have a USAexit ballot now before Americanisms takeover. ;-)

I can really sympathise with all of those who regularly use Southern Failways.

Train now 20 minutes late and still sitting at ECR.

No wonder I prefer to drive

Ridiculous. In my day YO (the LB&SCR telegraphic code for East Croydon, still in use in telex messages in the 1970s) was the sort of place where you turned up, bought a ticket to London, and seldom waited more than a couple of minutes. When I wrote the investment submission for rebuilding the place in the late 80s, I think the revenue was the highest of any station apart from London terminii, and maybe Birmingham New Street. This should be public transport at its very finest.

Good morning from a train-lacking south coast!

which held the record (18 May 1990), surely?

Current record is 547.8 km/h set on 3rd April 2007 by an albeit modified set comprising the power cars of the current Lyria set 4402.

Let's see how the weekend pans out; lots to do - somewhen!

The final day of the Taste of the Teign food fest today with an enlarged farmers market on The Triangle. For those unaware, The Triangle is Teignmouths answer to the village square/village green. It's name developed from the fact that it is neither ...... oh never mind.

The traditional yearly "Blessing of the boats" also happens on the back beach today.

Meanwhile in my wife's hometown in Belgium the annual town party commenced yesterday afternoon. Ending late Sunday eve the party takes over the whole of the main drag in the town. The road is covered wall to wall in large canvas structures and the majority of them are selling alcohol and/or food. A great time is had by all.

Chrisf, I hope your lost or "filed in recycling bin" magazine wasn't an emag.

Any satellite success Jamie?

Good morning again,

Now back after my earlier visit  and managed to get another couple of hours sleep. The sun is shining and a dry warm day is forecast.

Feeling somewhat better now and looking forward to a meal out later in honour of The Boss and and her forthcoming birthday. Not only that but she has decided to pay for it ("and there will be no argument" which is not unusual as she is one of the most generous people I know and would rather give than receive) However the rest of us have decided that this may well occasion a spirited discussion.

She's off to the hairdresser shortly and when she returns will attack my head with the clippers. Should take all of about 3 minutes.

Have a good one,

Bob.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny this morning but forecast for rain tonight but later tomorrow the sun should be back.

Few years ago, putting a piano in a station was very popular. London, Paris, Chicago, and also Amsterdam. So this kid sits down at it, and gosh, is he talented!

No idea who he is, but he's very good (especially for his age!)

This talented young lady is 11 years old

Morning everyone

Late on parade this morning, we must have needed the lie in is all I can say. To use a quote from Chrisf, this morning will be spent doing unspecified pottering.

Later on this evening we are out to meet up with our friends from the midlands in a nice little pub in Bewsley, Derbyshire. We met up with them there a few months ago and it will be nice to catch up for a chat again of a pint and some nice food.

Gordon. Happy birthday.

Back later.

Afternoon all from a windy but warm Warwickshire, hope all's well ;)

An easy and very enjoyable shift at work last night on the HOBC down at St.Albans, the only fly in the ointment being driving down there in the works van, more specifically trying to avoid contact with the idiot driver in front on the A5 with no lights on at 22.00hrs. I flashed him several times (behave, not like that!) but the silly sausage just ignored me. Even being flashed by dozens of oncoming vehicles he carried on regardless. Keeping my distance I sat behind him like this right down to the end of the A5 where it joins the M1 at J9, I peeled off to head towards 'Stallburns' while he jauntily went up the very tightly curved slip road for the M1, as I passed him on the right I could see he had his smartphone held up against the steering wheel with his left hand whilst 'swiping' to his heart's content with his right hand..... I.....actually.... bloody.... well.... give.....up!!!

Something to look forward to on Monday, off down to the outskirts of Reading to have a shuftie at another old Mini, planning my route on Google Maps I noticed the lovely village of Hambleden isn't too far off my chosen return route so I'll stop off and have a gander, some of you on here may have twigged that Hambleden was used as 'a typical English country village' location for filming TV shows such as 'The Avengers' etc.  If the Mini in question turns out to be the right one it could become an very nice little project.

Stay safe all ;)

And coincidentally Channel 5's "Big, Bigger, Biggest" series last night was a repeat of the railway one that culminated in the TGV high speed run.

Cheers,

Mick

' Afternoon all from red dragon land

and Happy Birthday Gordon.  Hope you are enjoying your day.

We've been busy of late sorting photos and diary of Jones the Steam's latest adventures recounted exclusively in Wheeltappers.

Also, we have been putting our Polly II round the completed track at West Shore having just renewed its boiler certificate for another year.  I eventually got her round under full steam getting water, steam and coal in the right mix.  Whether I'll match that pulling passengers remains to be seen!  Consistency of speed needs to be worked on though.  Playing truant Day off today, though - family get together.

Morning all (01.00 here) from the World's Most Liveable City.

A dreary shift at the Palace this afternoon was followed by a most unpleasant hour's journey home.  The train was very late because of heavy inward passenger loadings (hardly uncommon on  Saturday night - this is supposed to the the World's Most Liveable after all ..... ) and was further delayed by a very heavy down loading.  Swelled by hundreds emerging from a major rugby match and who refused to accept the train was full, stood blocking the doorways in the hopes of getting on and generally being a nuisance ....  As things thinned out a little it became apparent that a group of 30 or so "yoof" of both sexes were drinking copious amounts of alcohol very rapidly, were becoming noisy and then becoming rude and crude.  When one decided his bladder required relief several of his mates chose the moment to also "stand in line" but if you please on board a fully-loaded train and against the seat cushions and walls.  And where is the support to deal with such anti-social behaviour?  We believe they inhabit donut and coffee shops.  Tackling anything like this is far too much trouble.

Rant over.  I'm off to bed.  The sun will still rise tomorrow.  One train will require a deep clean.  A gang of antisocial oiks will either have no memory of the evening or be bragging about it on social media.  Already today we have seen videos of people using platform hand-rails instead of toilet paper and performing an act of gross indecency in broad daylight on a train.

Most Liveable?  Like I said - rant over.  Best wishes to all.

Matthew told me last night that the cinema he went to in Cork had a dog, a sort of Jack Russell that just wandered about during the film. Robbie slept through most of the Woodstock film last night but left the room rapidly when Carlos Santana performed.

Was that the performance when power was cut to his guitar amp during mid-guitar face?

Always enjoyed that bit. sometimes it is better to have a poker face throughout.

Best, Pete.

I ventured out to do the shopping we forgot during the week. My trip to Southend yesterday coincided with every school end of day between here and there. I thought it would be quiet going to Pitsea (big Tesco store) but there was the boot sale traffic to deal with. I have never been to a boot sale.

Aditi invited our neighbours round for a meal tonight so I have been requested to tidy up . Combing my hair and brushing the dog wasn't what was meant, so soon I will wield the vacuum cleaner and waft some polish about.

I had a chat with Matthew (WhatsApp voice) while he walked into Cork. He is going to a Q&A session with the people who produced the film festival in Cork, then going to the Polish charity to meet some elderly (over 55 years old! ) people, then to some drinks party to do with the film festival. Usually he goes to a language exchange on Saturdays but is giving it a break tonight as he is getting fed up of Germans mocking him for being from Brexit Britain. The joke seems to revolve round "so you are here for an Irish passport ha ha".

The film didn't show a power cut. It did show Jimi Hendrix playing to a very depleted audience of litter pickers though.
