A frustrating day where several senior people on site decided that I could wait for over 2 hours before authorisation to work was granted. It wouldn't have been so bad but the delay was so that they could go and get breakfast. First Class COCKWOMBLES.

Now a lot later home than I should have been so now having to work most of the evening to catch up on paperwork.

Bask later

Many years ago, when I worked in another department, I was called to a fault on our gas meter monitoring equipment, that was connected to the gas meter of a large supermarket giant. When I arrived on site, they didn't want to let me in as they were too busy to escort me to the gas meter. I replied, that's ok, but as I turned to leave, I politely asked "by the way, what's the name of the store manager please" when I was asked why I wanted it, I said so that I could mention "someone's name" to my boss when he asked why the job hadn't done the job. It worked a treat, the manager soon appeared and then let me in. I was a bit of a bu99er like that, but it invariably worked.

Sadly she's 51, but they are Tom and Gerry! She has never been a skinny minnie, but at 5'4" and 79kg she is a bit plump right now. Apparently this has no negative effect on the - er - ardour of her suitors.

On the Isle of Lewis, the value of a wife was based on the broadness of her rear view as the bigger they were the larger the net that she could carry laden with hay at harvest time.

This is on the home page of a fairly large company. Is there a hidden charge I am missing?

Interest Free (0%) Finance Available

Representative example:

Borrow £2,500 over 12 months

12 Monthly repayments of £250

Interest rate 0%

Representative 0% APR

Total repayable is £2,500

But that's what the law demands, whether you need the info or not, and it's designed to show the extortionate rate of vigrish reasonable interest rates being taken by many of the lenders who used to be and may well still be known as payday lenders, where if they didn't show that info, you wouldn't know just how much that £200 loan repayable over 50 weeks at £10 a week (or whatever) really costs.

Hi Geoff, lurking again?  Hope the break is still going well and your ankle is holding up.  Not a lot happening here in the sleepy village East of Lancaster.

Sorry Stewart, but 12 monthly payments of £250 was £3k, not £2.5k, when I was at skool.

Around 20 years ago we were looking for a new front door. Our door measured 3ft 1in. I phoned lots of shops asking if they had a door that size, yeah we've got loads of doors 31in wide. No, I said that's too small, I want one 3ft 1in - 37in wide, biggest we've got is 36in wide. I ended up going to a local woodworking company and getting one made bespoke, out of Ash and it worked out about the same as buying one off the shelf.

I was querying the maths (math for the US folk) involved. To me it just doesn't add up! (pun intended)

Miserable weather here today, wet n windy, and thick fog above about 300 feet.  Our road home is at 1400 feet or so........

My brother used to do the on call for the motorway information displays. He was responsible for the south of England except for London and Home counties. He was to the west of Bristol returning home to the Midlands when he was asked to go to South Yorkshire for an emergency as the Northern technical support chap was ill. It was also December and awful weather. So off he sets and arrives at the communication centre where the officer in charge won't let him in as all his security stuff is for southern constabularies (and assorted "secure" estsblishments"). Pete just asked his name and said he was going home. He did relent and fix it.

Camped near to Speeton at the moment; it is close to Flamborough Head and Bempton cliffs in East Yorkshire. Some very pleasant walks along the cliff tops usually but the last two days have been very windy and we have had to cut short our planned walks. The nesting season is coming to an end but there were plenty of gannets diving into the sea for fish, though too far away to see how successful they had been. I know they don't catch a fish every time and it must be a close run thing on energy expended versus energy gained; the fact there are still gannets fishing like that indicates the technique is worth while. The fish don't seem to be evolving a "Let's swim deeper" habit. Ankle is bearing up well, though not over stretching it. Stay safe all.

Entrance overgrown with weeds..................

Stop it Rob!

You've got me at it as well now!

I was out on the bike this morning, and took a wander around the tracks and paths in one of the more rural suburbs just north of Wellington (Salop).

I am amazed at the number of pedestrians who walk around, head down, earphones in, who are totally unaware of what is going around them.  You have to be careful they do not suddenly weave off their path and onto yours.

Dog walkers with those long leads who allow their animals to cross the cycle way to sniff in the bushes opposite must believe they are  heroic resistance fighters hoping to catch out the dastardly despatch rider. Perhaps I should have a man with a red flag and ringing a bell striding out in front yelling  'Way way, The lycra lout of Satan cometh'.

Of course, 'I've a claim 4you lawyers' would then have me sued for false representation as I do not wear lycra, clingfilm or any other sort of tight body wrapping materiel.

Of course this is not to say there are regiments of these folk out pounding the tarmac, as the majority of Telfs have difficulty pounding the carpet between the sofa and the television in order to change channel. They are the sole reason that the TV remote was invented.

The sun made a brief appearance this morning, but after it saw me in my bright yellow top, must have thought that it's presence was no longer required and has gone elsewhere.

Some work of a 7/8ths matter will follow later in the morning after I have completed  the statutory obligations of domestic administration as well as some voluntary ones to ingratiate myself with the Obergrumpenfuhrer.

I have a rather different view to you. If there is a clearly defined path one side cycles the other I would try to keep clear of the cycle way however often they just lump all in together. Cyclist moan at cars expecting them to keep out of the cars way, but cyclist expect walkers to keep out of their way. So if I am driving my car I am asked to be careful of cyclists but the cyclist are not prepared in return to be careful of me when I am walking. Walkers also get badly treated by cyclist using footpaths as cycleways when they should not be using them to cycle.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. My paternal grandfather was born in a telephone exchange. Actually the telephone exchange was in his aunts front room, his aunt was the telephone operator. At the time (mid-1890's) there were barely half a dozen subscribers and the conditions of employment must have been similar to a rural crossing keeper. The site of the cottage/telephone exchange at Rainham (Essex) is now a roundabout giving access to the Tesco's store the car park of which was a smallholding farmed by another member of the family. Need to get the hard landscaping done this week to take advantage of the dry spell.

While an Apprentice we visited one of those to do a bit of maintenance. The couple were both operators she did the day he did the nights nominally but as they would cover for each other you could get either. This was mid sixties. We also did some work at Wokingham which was still a manual board. The operators were mostly ladies and trying to make apprentices blush with saucy remarks was typical.

Which shows the information is wrong. It could be reported to the Advertising authority or the Financial authority. It could be interesting if you stopped after 10 payments whether they would dare take it to court. However I would want to risk it myself.

Evening most!

feathers being spat as I write this. Been to a meeting where someone's attitude was "as long as I am OK you can do as I tell you" Ten years ago it could have got nasty... but I seem to have mellowed.

Time for some sleep methinks as, despite some eyelid checking today the weekend has caught up with me!

Sleep weel/ have a nice day!

Good evening everyone.

I had every intention of going swimming tonight, but after tea I felt bl00dy knackered so I decided stayed in instead and I haven't done a thing! As Mrs W was watching some recorded TV that I don't watch, I pottered about in the cellar putting a few bits and pieces away which took all of 20 minutes and that's about it.

After that we decided for a change, to watch some Dan Fogelberg videos on YouTube. I particularly like watching his live stuff, he always seemed to enjoy interacting with the audience. Unfortunately we never got to see him live, but we've been big fans of his work for over 35 years. He's sadly no longer with us, falling victim to the big C in 2007.

Goodnight all.
