RMweb Gold BoD Posted July 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2016 Today's task is to collect Robbie, and then continue tidying Matthew's room. He won't be home until August Tony In one morning paper recently there was a photo is some ...... erm ...... young students in Utrecht trying to keep cool in a paddling pool in the street. If I were in Matthew's position I don't think I would be hurrying to get back.
RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted July 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 25, 2016 Well, a new fridge has been ordered and will be delivered in the early afternoon tomorrow, so we can clear and defrost the old one while not leaving our foodstuffs without refrigeration for too long. Probably best that way as it's still very warm, and extremely humid after an intense shower around 3 pm. Yuck…

bbishop
Not sure how many Bishops from the '50s we have on ERs. Me. The Bishop of Truro in the 1950s was Edmund Morgan, who would have been about seventy by then. He was of the high church persuasion. I doubt if he would have had a summer costume, so in a black coat but he might not be wearing his rochet or gaiters. Just a guess, but I think he would be in a black shirt. Definitely a cross, but may not be visible. Bill

RMweb Gold Shedman5 Posted July 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2016 Afternoon, have been absent from the conversations on here for around three weeks, thus congratulations and commiserations as appropriate. Nothing healthwise for my absence just an opportunity occured (thanks to a recent vote) to earn some dosh helping a mate out who runs a consultancy firm with some focus groups. Hardwork and I think I have heard enough about trade agreement opportunities for the forseeable future. I am so glad I am retired and away from the corporate world, it seems to me to have got worse! During this period eldest finished his secondment in Stockholm and is back in London, youngest has just bought a flat and apparently requires help with decorating starting next week sometime so I am told. I might at some point get some modeling done! Enjoy your evening, very pleasant outside here.

One of Matthew's flatmates in Utrecht flew home to Crete last week complaining he had seen no sun since he arrived last September. He must have departed just before the sunny day. bbishop
Yes, all well and good. But...... what about the baby eating bishop of Bath & Wells? Andrew, Please think of the time line. When the baby eating bishop of Bath & Wells was rampant, Bath would have been of the broad gauge persuasion, Polly's layout is narrow gauge. emt_911
Another site and yet another day that went to plan and it didn't rain. Is it time to start worrying? When I got home I promptly fell asleep before managing to make a coffee AndyB - I sympathise with you on the cost of AC repairs. The cost is certainly a problem that I could live with for the van. Instead I've had to buy a new window winder handle. Thinking of those ailing, supporting, recovering and missing
bluebottle
Andrew, Please think of the time line. When the baby eating bishop of Bath & Wells was rampant, Bath would have been of the broad gauge persuasion, Polly's layout is narrow gauge. Bill But which bishop? From "The Spectator" website, May 2014 - "The bishopric of Bath and Wells comes with more bear-traps than most. For one thing, there’s the baby-eating. Ever since Blackadder told Baldrick he was being chased for a debt by the ‘baby–eating Bishop of Bath and Wells’, the image has stuck. When the last incumbent [before Peter Hancock], Peter Price, made his first visit to the House of Lords, accompanied by his five-week-old granddaughter, the Bishop of Southwark remarked: ‘I see the bishop has brought his own lunch.’ " - So it seems that bishops of the Anglican persuasion are happy to perpetuate the joke ... RMweb Gold Donw Posted July 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2016 Stripping the first half of the flat roof off underneath the felt is a layer half inch to one inch of Ashpalt on a metal mesh. Popular Post andyram
Evening all. I hope today finds you well. Thanks once again for the good wishes. Today has been another very enjoyable day. We visited the Tropicquara place at Watchet and were pleasantly surprised. This animal park is centred around the old BBC radio transmitting station. The old radio masts are still there and many of the exhibits are inside the old concrete building. The centre piece is a tropical room full of tanks of various reptiles with a small aquarium display on a lower floor. Inside the main room a number of birds are allowed to fly freely and there are some small lizards that are also free to roam through the plants around the large central area. It was a shock at first when one scuttled across in front of us. We were not sure how much of the day the place would take up, but we ended up spending much of our time there. We enjoyed the talks about some of the reptiles and got to stroke a Bearded Dragon, whilst the girls also held the boa constrictor - I am afraid snakes are not my thing. Later in the day they also released one of the giant tortoises for a roam around the room and Amber got to stroke that too. There were plenty of outdoor pens containing various breeds of lemur as well as some gibbons, rheas, tapirs, a serval and a Scottish wildcat. There were also wallabies, meerkats and a mongoose or two. Amber enjoyed the various play areas around the site, including the indoor play barn which also included a cafe selling hot food. There was also a couple of other attractions incorporated in the main building. As a throwback to the building's previous use there was a small radio museum. I am sure this may have been of interest to some, but the lack of structure or much in the way of interpretative information meant it appeared more of a room full of obsolete electrical goods to me. The other attraction was the Shadowstring Puppet Theatre. This featured a short show containing a few old marionettes. I think we were less than impressed and Amber was bored within a couple of minutes - Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation this certainly was not! We left having had a good day and feeling like we had got our money's worth. Amber was quite tired so we opted for a short stop for a drink at the station buffet at Watchet. We saw the railway's DMU pass through - Amber was disappointed that it was not a steam train. The rain held off until we were walking around Watchet Harbour a little later on but it was only a short shower. When we got back to the car, parked by the station, it was Amber who begged us to wait around the 15 minutes until the next steam service was due through. I was all for going home - but the little one insisted. Mum waited in the car whilst we stood on the footbridge. I must have trained / indoctrinated Amber well - the result was a cracking picture of 7F 53808. A great result. I will try and post the 7F picture a little bit later once on the laptop. I am currently typing on the IPad whilst in Amber's room waiting for her to drift off. There is a bottle of bubbly chilling in the fridge for Sarah and I which we plan to open later to celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary. Enjoy your evening.
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted July 25, 2016 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 25, 2016 A couple of shots of Polar Bear from yesterday - not many railways can boast running 100% of the original motive power running still! Sorry there's not more but it was wet, we were busy, and I spent most of the day working on other engines with John, and doing impromptu shed tours - it's transport week.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted July 25, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 25, 2016 Had a great evening with Andrew and our respective halves. On a train home. A five car 387 but one car locked out of use so just one toilet left in this packed train. However the toilet is falling apart, leaking, buttons missing and handover failed. Soap works. What a state for Southerns newest train. Emptied out a bit at Purley but still very sticky as air con not very good in this area. Just goes to show how much of a cover up the guards dispute is when the trains are falling start despite the huge reduction in services there is currently. A shambles. Popular Post andyram
So Amber drifted off to sleep at about 8.30pm tonight. That was half an hour better than yesterday and 45 minutes better than the previous night. She is gradually getting closer to the time she would drift off in her own bed. The bubbly has been opened and Sarah and I have toasted our 6 years of marriage - we will achieve nine years as a couple in early September. I have fired up the laptop so here is that picture of the 7F at Watchet - just a shame about the modern motor vehicles!
