Ian - those floods are about half a mile from my place. The minicab driver has now gone to the Daily Mail to say that it wasn't his fault, he was 'cornered'. I think that he's realised that having seen the video his insurance company will be very reluctant to pay out!

Oops. Bobby is on the naughty step. Not only did I not garden citing firstly pain and then rain with a mini thunderstorm at 15.00hrs but a parcel was delivered by Darren the postie. This contained 2 GWR clerestory coaches via eBay to add to my growing collection of chocolate and cream stuff. I tried to blame people like Bob 81C and Stationmaster Mike saying that my friends on here felt sorry for me because I am supposed to be an Eastern Region fan and they were trying to cure me by sending me "spare" stuff. This did not work. "Pull the other one, it's got bells on"  said She.

I have further compounded my sins by refusing to renew our wedding vows either next week or at any Anniversary including our Golden in 4 years time. My main argument is the fact that I'm still here after 46 years so am unlikely to leave or transgress now..............possibly.

The silence at the moment is quite deafening.

Local chaos continues it would seem.  Depending on whose news you read 7 or 9 people were treated at the scene and it's either 'a gas leak' or 'a chemical leak'  in WHS - I wonder what they're selling nowadays?  The cordoned off area is expected to continue until 19.00 and the Fire Brigade specialists were reportedly still involved one hour ago but it seems a lot of the other emergency services have been stood down.

Or think that Welwyn is up the Valleys a bit!

Best, Pete.

That would be Flu Welwyn from the Bell Inn, Tillet. She now lives in the valleys and does things more Caerphilly these days.

Ian, Herts (as in hurts) is surely poetic licence.

Would a gift parcel help?

Now that's what I call living on the edge.

Well I've hopefully got one coming to me this month from Hatton's but I don't think she'd appreciate it.  :jester:

I hope we don't hear of further injuries to GDB that weren't self-inflicted.......

Cheers,

Mick

Good evening all.

The paper collection is a different truck but not been around to see how they load the glass and general rubbish and these days we take all plastics and glass to the local reycling bins where we put them in the separate bins.

And then the recycling bins (presumably the ones with the hooks on the top) are emptied into the same truck! Seen them do it!

Best Wishes to all in need thereof.

No chance of getting away with that Tony. We've actually been together 51 years so has heard everything before and probably knows me better than I know myself.

Morning all.

Don't talk to me about weather! The whelkmen won't be out today as their coracles are waterlogged and lightning struck the lighthouse, lighting it up.

Have you seen the viral video of assorted cockwombles attempting to drive through the floods under the railway bridge in Wallington? The moral would be to ignore the advice of a bunch of well-lubricated young men (it's by the John Jakson pub) that the water only goes halfway up our ducks. It was a mega thunderstorm, the sort you don't usually get in Surrey.

As if to underline the coming of the apocalypse I've just seen a green parakeet on the bird feeder. Very pretty, and makes a change from chaffinches, but very noisy.

Weather looks promising after an early shower. Much housework to do, but

Julie not up yet, so will start later.

Have a good day, people.

Know the bridge - lived there in the early 70's ... 'South Beddington' just didn't sound the same

Early night a bit of rest seems like a good idea after such an exciting day  (I did ask the Doctor if he'd done a similar job previously and he said I wasn't the first so I was very reassured, honest.  I was even more reassured when the Dermatology Nurse explained that they practice on pig skin before progressing to humans - I couldn't quite work out if the skin was still attached to the pig at the time but I think it wouldn't be as I bet the pig wouldn't be very happy.  She also said that the cauterising process reminded her of all the barbecues going on last weekend and I told that if they smelt anything like the cauterising session I wouldn't have looked forward to eating the results.)

G'night all

Off to bed as I have an early start to Lords tomorrow.

Andrew, I made the mistake of looking up Tapas Bars in the boring borough and have been plagued by cookies from one beginning with "C". How do I get rid of the little bleeders? The cookies, I mean. By the by, wonderful reviews, do they have an edit facility?

Had to ring HMRC from the charity on Monday. Had to interact with a female automaton for 10 minutes. When she actually let me speak to a human, I failed the security checks! C0ckw0mbles!! Rang back a few minutes later, same 10 minutes being bossed around by a computer, when I finally spoke to a human, there were no security questions and when I queried, I was told that I has passed on voice recognition. Should I be very scared?

Another call to Gideon's staff found me arranging my State Pension, due in a few months time. I don't know yet whether they require my birth certificate or decree absolute. Just a small stakeholder pension still to arrange; I'm sufficiently confident in my longevity to take out an annuity, so need to find the best provider. However, all the comparator sites want a lot of personal information which I'm loath to provide. Ho hum.

Take care, all of you. Bill

Late night again. Just taken the layout down from outside the garage. Been working in the external spot light. All concrete surfaces now in place and a coat of paint on them. Ballast partially laid ready for PVA in the morning. One night left to finish the boards.

Time for bed shortly.

Been busy today. Cut the lawns, strimmed the edges, did washing, hung it out, ironed it when dry.

Did a bit of weathering... sneaky peak

post-7650-0-56964000-1465424234_thumb.jpg

Went to the Model Railway Club tonight and did more weathering.

Just had a nice can of IPA so time for sleep!

Sleep well all

Good evening everyone.

On the subject of gas leaks. I'm not sure if the general public are aware, but natural gas has no smell, the "smell" is a liquid chemical, which added at certain points around the network, at a fixed ratio, which is governed by gas flow. A former colleague who had no sense of smell, had been working on one of the injection cabinets, where his clothing accidentally came into contact with the undiluted liquid, and called into a supermarket on his way home from work, the place had to be evacuated due to a suspected gas leak! When he realised it was him causing all the commotion, he beat a hasty retreat.

I've had a reasonably quite evening, although I did put up the curtain rail brackets after tea, then cleaned the curtain rails, which will go up tomorrow and the curtains Friday when they are dry.

I'm off to bed now.

Goodnight all.
