My other (not mystery) half dropped me at Caterham station. She is allowed to work from home. Fairly quiet here but this LBG train is a lot busier than the Vic service that left 10 minutes beforehand. At least this is a 387 rather than a 455.

A nice but freezing morning so had to chisel off the ice off the windscreen

Referring to the pics that didn't appear on the "Reply quoting this post," the last one in particular.

A 377... I want one! 4mm to the ft, that is.    Oh!...I wish...

But...lunch time calls.  Have a good afternoon but don't wish your life away... :D

They do use older 377 Electrostars on the branch but today it was the newer (individual windows for easier glass replacement) 5 car 387. 377/6s

Just been snow / sleeting here near London Bridge when I went out to get a sandwich.

Good afternoon everyone. I've had a really good day today, I've just got home, so I'm in time to eat lunch with Sheila. However, that does mean that I'll now have to complete all the electronic paperwork at home, in the nice warm environment to the dining room. The temperature was 9C but the wind really made feel more like 2C, bloody cold. Oooooh, it didn't really take much thinking about. My second job of the day took me very close to Maghull, but I was still in the outskirts of Scarisbrick, Southport. The whole area is very flat and as I mentioned earlier there was very little cover from that cold wind.

Back later, have a good one.

Greetings all from a snowy London Bridge - yes it snowed on me at lunchtime and then there was a massive thunderclap. You can tell the cricket season is well and truly underway! I haven't gone back and caught up but best wishes to the ailing and the absent

Back again after another trip to town - Dr running late of course - why is it that when I'm early, they're late, and when I'm later they're on time?  Hip is still not 100% so a cortisone shot has been prescribed.

Ian - I agree that internal wiring of the phones is always a bit awkward - anything more than live neutral and earth is just about the limit for most folk.  When I worked for the BT, it was incredible how many people thought that they should get a free call out to deal with faulty internal wiring, much of which was of the DIY variety from the local hardware outlets.  I had to deal with many disputes over the call out charge of £139.99 for a visit to rectify faults beyond the master socket, or to deal with faulty phones which were nothing to do with BT having been bought in Argos, Curry's etc...

Back tomorrow

Stewart, Understand/concur. The wiring is all "internal" that's causing the problem. Much DIY installed by me and previous owner. I pride myself on being fairly adept at such carp, HOWEVER, given the last wiring "I" installed was about 18 years ago, and all the rest is waaayyyyy older, it's hardly surprising that somewhere in the various runs - six different last time I counted to various rooms on three levels (US basement style house and two story) - the mess hasn't thrown itself out of the pram long before now. I'd always resolved to clean up the wiring from the first day we moved in 24 years ago :O , only now, rather than a maintenance effort it could have been, it has become a necessity in order to re-instate some measure of service to the location I still want the land line available <sigh>. It's all a rats nest :jester:

but there is a gate at both ends of the caisson.  So in theory if the boat was revved up and the forward gate opened it could leave the caisson before the caisson drained.

Hmmm, sounds OK if the boat is not a canal barge, OR the barge is made of balsa and they install a jet engine :) otherwise I recall that with a max. speed of 3mph, the canal boat may well not make it very far before finding itself beached (well, caissoned!! - sorry, hat, coat soon as I finish writing my drivel-of-the-day).

Morning from sunny Long Island - sod all to report from yesterday, just working.

Client, now LIVE with their system, have discovered that all the setup they should have done, but glossed over, has truly bitten them in the arse, big time.

Example - Of all the several THOUSAND items they had to enter into the system Item master file, most have been added with incorrect units-of-measure, and now folks are surprised that vendors are rejecting their PO's because they can't supply the item in that unit! They managed to enter MOST items that are ordered by the "CASE", instead by the UNIT quantity. So vendors are asking things like, "are you sure you only want ONE syringe, you usually order a case...", DUH!!!

At least it's not MY problem to fix :)

12 and sunny driving in, expecting rain later possibly thunderstorms,

Have a lovely TOOSDAY if you get the opportunity.

Afternoon all,

Snowing here, an icy wind presages the MiL's* arrival next week.  :scared:

Currently at anchor, I suggested they took a selfie using one of the port webcams.

Her partner must have received my email, cos the next thing I see moored up in front of the camera is an old tramp.   :jester:

* tbh I quite like her now that I've trained her. Took 13 years and I lost a few fingers but.... :girldevil:

Now bright sunshine. Typical British summer.

More lung exercise done this lunchtime and peak flows checked again. Dare I say after a couple of days it has had more impact than the steroids?

Too early to tell, in all honesty, but worth persevering with to find out.

Good afternoon from a cold Gateway to The World. I just had to go to drop off a prescription renewal and got snowed on for about 5 minutes, after which the sun came out again. The north wind's cold, even indoors at the moment as the back door is open for Tigger. In cold weather he feels insecure in the garden if he hasn't got a clear run back into the house. If I shut the door he'll yowl and scratch until it's opened, then go back in the garden. This is not tolerated very often or for very long. In fact a sudden gust has resulted in closure. He was sitting in a sunny spot but came straight back to the door to be let in. Don't you just love 'em?

I may have to go out with Mrs mole shortly to see a bloke who might buy her mobile home. Understandably she doesn't want to go alone.

Hopefully I can fit a shopping run in later.

Best wishes and healing vibes to all.

Pete

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. My dilemma this morning was decided almost as soon as I had signed off. Normally the Royal Mail delivers the post between 11 and 12, this morning, bless them they delivered before 10 so I was able to go down to town and be back before the weather turned. They did deliver a parcel, not the one I had hoped for but welcome nevertheless. Ta Ta for now, be back later.

Be scared, be very scared.

I have it on good authority than Don Mike (Il Capostazione) has ordered that the next steam special to pass your house, WILL be hauled by one of God's Wonderful creations,

Nothing to fear then.

Copper topped stuff with wide bottoms are restricted along my line.........

Cheers,

Mick

We have a specialist fleet to get around that problem:  Called the 56/66xx, plus all the various varieties of pannier tanks. (They are mainly covert with cast chimneys to catch you with your pants down unawares. 9466 being the honorable exception.)

It'll be just as if you've stuck a stick in a Hornets nest. :jester:

The weather is swinging between bright sunshine and heavy snow showers at the moment.

So I was having fun earlier discussng the merits of narrow gauge with large radius or broad gauge with small radius. No apologies to Debs are required on this occasion though ...

And the discussion has probably been running as long as similar ones here :locomotive:

Thoughts to those sick, injured, recovering and missing in action.

Now where's me plectrum?
