bluebottle
A tidy shed, wont be for long! If Shedman's superpower isn't keeping his shed tidy, what is? Selection meeting yesterday evening for a candidate to fill the council seat left vacant by our candidate for the parliamentary by-election. Three women to choose from, so I followed my usual practice of voting for the best-looking one. Being obviously the most capable, she won anyway. I'm old enough to be her dad, I thought, no-one would suspect me of having ulterior motives, even it it hadn't been a secret ballot, but then I noticed that every time the female ward member sitting across the table from me caught my eye, she'd grin and wink. Damn my over-expressive eyebrows. I'd make a lousy poker player...
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2016 Morning all. Just reading the news from Snaefell. Sorry to see an historic car wrecked but pleased for what it's worth that no-one was aboard nor injured in any way. A most unusual incident and one in which the authorities will no doubt be keen to establish the how, why and wherefore ASAP. http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/pictures-runaway-mountain-tram-crash-drama-1-7824668 Off to sort the Good Lady's birthday presents today. She turns another number tomorrow. No firm plans for celebrating but I'm told to expect that I shall be baking pizza in the outdoor facility. Best wishes to all. Thoughts to those on Fraggle Rock for whom shock waves might be rippling.

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Good morning all, Dry and a fresh 5oC, should be some sunshine today with the possibility of light showers later. "The Parcel" did not arrive yesterday but I'm escalating readiness to DEFCON 3 because in the words of The Old Gentleman "I have hopes my dear, I have hopes." (although I am normally the eternal pessimist) Tony, I think after reading some of the problems people have been having assembling the model I may be tempted to wait for the video as well. However patience is not one of my strong points which of course is exactly what is needed at the moment. The Boss is not impressed because I've told her she'll have to get the bus home (again) while I wait in. Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2016 For anyone in need of a little light humour and a lift (in more ways than one) to the day I found this over at David Todd's excellent record of the goings-on at Shakespeare Cliff. chrisf
Good morning one and all and fingers crossed for Jock. Ten years ago today was my last day at work. The fateful e-mail was headed "Early exit" but had nothing to do with assisted suicide. Rather, it was an invitation to apply for voluntary early retirement/severance. My response, for once, was immediate - words to the effect of "Yes please!". I was not enjoying work very much, having to drive 30 miles each way every day to be grumbled at by a line manager with whom there was very little meeting of minds. Six months beforehand I had been diagnosed with depression and this may have helped my case. How glad I am that I was paid to go away! Where did the last 10 years go? I'm not sure that I have achieved very much but I feel so much better for not being in that work environment any more. Since I left, the office where I was employed has been abolished, which does beg the question of how much point there was to it all. Today sees a visit to Poorly Pal. He is suffering very badly from depression and sometimes wishes that he had never retired. That's bad. I hope we both enjoy the lunch that I will cook for him - stir fried prawns and pork. Even my cooking must be better than meals on wheels. Tonight there is a talk by Paul Chancellor of Colour-Rail which will be a good way of spending the evening. Best wishes to all in need of support Chris
Robert
Morning All, We have rather unpleasant weather this morning. It is grey and raining heavily. Hopefully it will clear up later as Mercedes and I will be driving up to Kiel with her parents. They are moving up there - so once the removal men have finished in their flat, we will be loading their two cats, the rest of the fragile stuff and then hitting the Autobahn. There isn't a lot else to report, so I guess it is time for a coffee! Fingers crossed, Jock! Have a good day everyone...

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31, 2016 Morning all Sherry's last morning here for this visit, sadly. I shall miss her very much this time, which is kinda nice. Yesterday Sherry drove us about 140 miles, taking kids to and from skool, and then to see mum Alison in hospital. I don't think she got even one word of thanks from the youngsters, aged 7, 10 and 12. And the youngest has a dreadful cough. We are off shortly to do the morning skool run. As examples of home education, which they were until the parental break-up a couple of years ago, they make a great case for skool! Alison, by contrast, has texted her gratitude, of course. Alison has her test this morning, injected dye being monitored to identify pinch points around the heart. Fingers crossed it's something trivial. While she has always been overweight, she has never been a smoker, and certainly exercises daily. She feels the staff are on her side, more than for the smokers elsewhere in the cardiac ward. Off on the skool run in a few minutes.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31, 2016 Morning We had a good evening finishing off in our local Wetherspoons with a pint and food. Just aswell as our train was late and missed the bus. This morning bus on time but with over running engineering works around Ford both the 12 car Vic and our 12 car LBG services are 'cancelled', but really they are running fast avoiding Redhill and other stations to try and make up some of the 15 minutes delay. Good job it's school holidays otherwise the platform would be wedged. Hopefully some modelling time tonight after collecting the car from the garage afte it's MOT and service.

ChrisF: good luck with the prawns & pork; sounds interesting! roundhouse: interested to see what engineering works near Ford, unless they've rebuilt the level crossing barrier that caused trouble on Tuesday. To all: Wishes in all directions as needed Have as good a day as is possible!
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2016 Woken early by the seagulls but it's such a nice sunny day I am getting ready to go out for a mooch around. Yesterday was an interesting day on all fronts. A sunny walk in the morning. A trip into Whitby for a go on the slotties, then a quick lunch followed by a bit of train driving on an old friends layout (or to be more accurate a lot of talking and a bit of driving of trains) with tea and cake. On my return I fell asleep so headed out for a walk, only to be dragged into a pub for a pint! Have to collect her indoors from Scarborough later so need to tidy the house sometime. Enjoy your day/evening! Hope it goes well today Jock. Andyram..hope things are OK with your daughter. Baz
trisonic
New show seeing advertised on TV on “fyi” channel: “He Shed, She Shed”. Should be a hit in the UK. Most of the shed conversions seem to be for partying, though... I’m still waiting for “50 Sheds of Grey”. Have a nice Thursday everybody. Best, Pete.
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 31, 2016 Morning all. Sunny here, no rain, warming up after a chilly start. Robbie seems totally settled after his week away at kennels, though to be honest he probably wasn't unsettled by being away. I am having a lazy day initially waiting for the dishwasher to arrive. I will read the Rapido instructions again and probably remove the power car and test it. Having read the instructions I think making a 4 foot long storage track will be a good idea. Much better than a certain ex shadow chancellor possesses. Jamie
Jock67B
Morning all, A quick look in before going to the Colchester General hospital, my office has certainly never looked that good! Alan,(Shedman5) and accommodates a layout as well! Ian(OD), I hope I read nothing but good news about Alison when I look in later, and of course, a safe journey back to Blighty! I wonder if all the timings will fit - time will tell! Kind regards, Jock.
RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted March 31, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2016 Mawnin' awl. Dull and unappealing outside, though not cold at least. Got a day off and probably won't do very much as I guess I still need to get my inner clock properly synced. Best wishes to you all, particularly Jock and (from afar) Alison. Will see to checking back later – knowing that I said that several times recently but didn't manage eventually…
