Morning all. May I just second that I hope you're feeling better, Jock!

Seem to have slept well enough myself and two days off beckon now. Was having thoughts about chicken saté for dinner tonight!

Morning all from a rather misty village.   Beth's car is finally going in for service this morning so I'm the transport for the day.  Asda will be on the agenda this morning.  Some minutes to type up for a couple of societies.    Perhaps a little modelling at some point and an evening at the clubrooms doing scenic work.   However the main thing today is that the mortgage that we need to buy the French house is due to complete.   I will be watching the emails with interest.  All be well we will be on our way to take possession of the house in a fortnight.

Slept in! That's a first for a while. Lots to do today including some decorating.

Now our local butcher does very good bacon, rind on, in both smoked and unsmoked varieties. Moreassons also do rind on bacon in their value paxks.

Have a great day and I hope that you shake off the flu jock.

Lovely morning in crewe, got a few thing to post this morning then over to derby to be passed out on some new traction

Sold a load of model railway stuff on ebay over the last week, items that i bought but have been in my stock box unused for a number of years, ended up raising £1000+ which is nice, the £100 ebay fees are a bit of a killer though!

Next items to finish on there are a complete collection of meerkats from compare the meerkat, some have bids which is nice, gonna use the proceeds towards a 'new' car, i will of course have to insure it, and the circle will restart

As for the rest of the week, chirk-hereford for a couple of days then next week learning yet another kind traction (of sorts)

Which wasn't!

And the very late and very tough tackle on Stuart Hogg which sent him flying, seen in slo-mo on tv, but missed by all 4 match officials.  The boys are lions!

Easy money for eBay, isn't it? Yep, their fees are too high for what they do. Auction house fees are higher but at least you get an auctioneer with gavel!

Have a good week all

Morning All

Again, a day AWOL has meant a lot of catching up and I really must do better in keeping up to speed.  However, 30747 has the nastiest bug I've seen for some time, and of course, I've managed to pick it up, though luckily not so badly.  I'm sorry that I can only offer generic greetings again, though I have seen every post, and have tried to note who's ailing with what, who's getting better, and who's celebrating.

I'm still recovering at a reasonable pace (I think - the surgeon will tell me for sure later this week), and will be taking a medium walk later this morning - short ones are now unaccompanied and on one crutch.  A trip to town on the twirly pass is not a possibilty yet, as the bus seats are a bit low and my hip is sitting at an angle that is above 90 degrees.  Again, medical advice will help.

One strange thing happened last week, when the practice nurse turned up unannounced to see if I was in to have my flu jab, and of course, I had that over a week ago at the surgery, but for some reason, the home visit was not cancelled.

And a nearby house is up for sale with a new Estate Agent, and checking their website gives one the idea that we all live in showhouses, as they apparently sell lifestyle and their home page introduction reads  We specialise in selling lifestyles. A way of life. We encourage a buyer to invest, not just in bricks and mortar but a potential dream. This is our passion.  And apparently the houses being sold need to be dressed to show them at their best - and the actual descriptions remind me of the flowery estate agent speak which I thought had died out about 30 years ago.

Try this for size picked from one of their descriptions

What its got
More than a little marvellous this beautifully styed well designed home is a triumph of family life meets city chic. This captivating home is filled with charming features and has a very eclectic feel too. The entrance hall has a dark bamboo floor that leads us through to the heart of this home. The enormous kitchen has a classic design and yet is brimming with a handsome relaxed style that you can't help but fall in love with. Bamboo and stone flooring, large island, space for a huge family table and a corner to relax in. Overlooking the large garden from the French doors, this beautiful space will take your breath away. The sun twinkles from behind the trees as it sets, leaving a dappled light on the garden for you to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening on a mid-summers night.

What a load of twaddle - here's a link to the agent just in case anybody wants to see this OTT approach to home selling.

I'm off for a walk now, back later hopefully.

Regards to All

Good morning all,

Dry start but cloudy day forecast with chance of showers.

Just been asked to take been informed by The Boss that there is an urgent need to visit Ikea & Dunelm Mill. These are not places that I enjoy going to!

Have a good one, (I won't)

Morning all from the boring boring borough of Bexley. All quiet here still. Work awaits signatures still. Looks like another week of advanced thumb twiddling.

Stewart, I haven't seen that much Bullsh*t since I visited a cattle ranch many moons ago. Hope you 2 ditch the bug fast. My recent cold/man flu is still lingering 2 1/2 weeks later. Blergh!

Not a lot else to say. Take care everyone and have a good week. Today I will be mostly hunting down the Halloween decorations in the loft.

Just checked FB, but it appears that Debs hasn't posted any more progress on there.  In fact, it seems that the posts about her hospital stay have been deleted.  She indicated that she was homeward bound today, so let's all hope that this is still the case, and that she's on the mend in her own environement and with the Collies for company.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Like Stewart above I have read through the threads but I've mostly lost touch with who's ailing or to be congratulated so commiserations and congratulations where necessary. Another week beckons, where did the weekend go? not that it makes much difference to us retirees. I had intended to go to the Peterborough show but it was only reading the thread on the show yesterday that I realised it was on this weekend. I do know that the Chelmsford show is on this Saturday so its booked for a visit after the Brentwood toy fair.

Another dull day in which I managed to put off vacuuming the house, again. Found plenty of other mundane things to do though. Writting documentation for software is the least interesting part of developing it.

Hoping for some rain through the night, don't like my chances though.

Easy money for eBay, isn't it? Yep, their fees are too high for what they do. Auction house fees are higher but at least you get an auctioneer with gavel!

Ebay also have massive overheads for what they do; trillions of listings, bids, and all the feedback, all of which is stored for a decade or more in big data centres, at multiple sites, plus all the staff to keep it running. A bit more than one bloke with a hammer and a ledger (yes I know most auction houses are a bit more than that, but you get the point). Edited by LisaP4

Without wishing to stir up a hornets' nest, did you consider the RMWeb adverts?

Ed

i did think about it but having had a test item up there for 2 months with no interest i thought ebay would be the better opinion, as you say without stirring things up, had the old classifieds been running id have put them up there, although id have undersold myself on a lot of items as a few went through the roof compared to what id have priced them up at on classifieds

A bit of a grey start this morning.

I've already been around with the vacuum cleaner, and will probably slope off into the garden later to finish off the tasks from yesterday.

I managed to do a lot of raking up and weeded the leek patch; stripped out all the old runner bean plants and their poles, and then prepared two beds for the next crops.

I now need to sort out the bed where the courgettes were, and do a bit more weed extraction from the bark chipped zone.

I can also envisage working on the compost bed:  That is lift it all out of one bed and put it into the other!

Normally, I can't get another cut off the lawn at this time of year because it is too wet, but at present, I'm minded that this might be a good plan.  It will also lift a lot of the leaves that are falling from the ash tree.

The Obergrumpenfuhrer is off to the dentist very shortly, and Elsa is asleep at my feet.

When she arises from her slumber, a walk and a further collection of chestnuts is on the cards.  We collected about a kilo (shelled weight) yesterday, and there are loads more just waiting to be collected.

The effort of collection, peeling and scoring will be well worth it when they are roasting in the oven!

Have a great Monday.

What a shame there aren't any bedrooms or bathrooms.

Morning all!

Back at Scottish HQ after my week away. I'm not going to say holiday, as I really don't feel like I've had a holiday, probably well over 1300 miles on the roads over the course of the week. Disney on Ice with Jamie, visiting relatives, meetings in Durham, then back up to Edinburgh to almost immediately head down to Manchester. Yesterday involved a 2K parkrun with Jamie in the morning, shopping and then climbing and bouldering in the afternoon.

Hope everyone's well, and while the chances of me catching up are minimal I'll have a skim!

Looking forward to Wednesday - I'm working at home while the broadband goes to FTTC. We'll see if that works, as I suspect the copper cable between the cabinet and my flat is rather carp...

Good grief. Someone missed their vocation in life writing for Mills & Boon.
