lightengine
Here’s something else that doesn’t make sense (I’m not expecting an answer but the BBC delete my question): Why doesn’t the BBC ask the wealthy Gulf States why they are not taking Syrian refugees into their countries? Best, Pete. Very similar to my oft thought question of why the US of A never intervened in Northern Ireland (given that they intervene everywhere else). But they funded the IRA (allegedly) with St Patrick Day marches.

Ohmisterporter
Evening all. I've been reading through the comments about towns being "closed", most of them jokey. We were in Caernarfon yesterday, and believe me it isn't very far from the truth to say the place was closed on Sunday. KFC was open though and I got a helping of rubberised chips and relatively grease free chicken bits. Today we had a ride on the Ffestiniog Railway to Blaenau Ffestiniog and had glorious sunshine all the way. This is our favourite line, so a good time was had by both of us. I am becoming a little worried by the pricing on some of our heritage railways though. A young family were on the same train and had to decide which station to go to because they thought they couldn't afford the full trip even though their child travelled free of charge. I remember having similar debates when we had our own young family. Such is life. Stewart, Kath is doing very well thank you, though when I told her that Sunday had seen the best car boot sale of the year and she had missed it she nearly had a relapse. Quite a pleasant evening in this part of North Wales. Must go, Doc Martin is on soon. Stay safe all.
RMweb Gold Shedman5 Posted September 7, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2015 Evening, a busy day sad to say this has been spent with banks and on the phone to solicitors, it seems my brother in law has been using my mother in laws cheque card. I wont go into the details but it beggars belief to me more so the amount of money one can put through using a debit card. Oh well it could be worse I suppose, best wishes to Jock and the family, I think it would be nice if they could have calmer waters for a while. Off for a walk its a nice evening, enjoy whats left of the day. Alan
emt_911
A long frustrating day at work thanks to others not having completed their work either properly or not at all. It seems that my mothers setback was only temporary and has improved a great deal today. Although she is not out of the woods, another daily improvement would mean that she could me moved out of ICU tomorrow. Fingers crossed. John - Some cracking photos. The break must have done you both some good. Dave - Great to see you back posting. Have been thinking of Is during your absence.

Coombe Barton
Remember a trip on the Ffestiniog 35 years ago. They'd not long opened the spiral. We went up and back, but a coach party of Americans were herded onto the train and we all played sardines from Porthmadog to Duallt, when they detrained and herded back onto their coach. We continued through e spiral and stopped overlooking the reservoir on a glorious sunny afternoon. It was a much mor comfortable journey back. My mum then openly wondered why they hadn't stayed on for the last bit. The rest of the carriage agreed.
Popular Post Torr Giffard LSWR 1951-71
.....a few recent images inc. this mornings calorie burn around the short anticlockwise..... The recent work to upgrade the towpaths of the Caldon canal to cycle/walking routes has been followed by the appearance of Staffordshire Moorlands link signposts to point the way for any new cyclists.... The wettest stretches of towpath needed submerged gabions to stabilise the cycleway The cycleway at the Barnfields end of the Leek arm is still being finished off....numerous workboats are in attendance along the Caldon Flowers in the lounge are particularly important for Is just now. Here a sunflower catches the rays of the early morning sun through the window.... Today at Tittesworth....the water level keeps dropping and flora starts to grow in the mud.... AndyID
There is a ski hill at the top of this pass on the Montana/Idaho border The Dept. of Transport have conveniently installed a camera there so I can see if there is any snow before I set off. No snow today! http://lb.511.idaho.gov/idlb/mountainpasses/mountainpass.jsf?id=6 I must say these guys are really good. When I drove over there two months ago, one side of the concrete freeway had been completely removed and ground up to be re-cycled into the new surface (it gets really hammered in the Winter). Looks like they have replaced a substantial amount of it already. Edited September 7, 2015 by AndyID
trisonic
There was an article on the BBC about this saying that many had made private donations to help those providing aid in the camps. I think the quoted fingure was about $900m or £600m. Probably about what one of them spent on a premier league football team. Still leaves your question begging an answer, but that may edge into the realms of poly ticks. Truth of the matter is that they are ducking the issue...final word, Which is typical they also pay other people to fight their wars. Last word I promise... Thanks, BoD! Best, Pete.

But they funded the IRA (allegedly) with St Patrick Day marches. Not quite true. It was individuals that did that not the Government. I think you’ll find that a certain US Official help to broker final deal. Two wrongs do not make a right, though. No more from me I really, really, promise! Best, Pete. Clockwise or anti-clockwise. ....the reason for the different routes on particular days BoD, e.g. the weekend, is due to the heavy quarry tipper lorry traffic on the main roads around Leek on weekday mornings compared with Sat or Sun. RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted September 7, 2015 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2015 (edited) Absent-ish from ER's for a couple of days due to Blackburn Exhibition, golf and the Tour of Britain. Congrats/commiserations/best wishes as always - especially to Jock Three of the teams of the ToB, two of the media teams and the bike film crews stayed at wife's work last night. As I knew one of the Cannondale/Garmin mechanics, I had to visit them.... This morning, I was on patrol to make sure that incoming golf members didn't block them in and also to make sure that the cycling teams didn't take anything that they weren't supposed to. it's a standing joke within the bike racing sport that they will remove anything that isn't bolted down (A friend of mine dismantled a "Henry" vacuum cleaner and removed it piecemeal within his luggage and toolkit.............. A few views of the team vehicles and the TV motorbikes. Then it was off out on the bikes (with Les Green of LLS fame, one of other MRC members Andy and a colleague from Wife's work Scott) to watch Stage 2 from Clitheroe to Colne. As the crow flies, about 12 miles, but somehow, they managed to take 99 miles.... First stop was the climb to the Nick O' Pendle above Clitheroe. Plenty of roadside support at the summit about 1/2 mile above us. Clitheroe is visible in the background - the cement works is in the right background This is larger than a football pitch and was due to be removed later in the day. Then across the valley to Cow Ark. No decent pics. A quick stopover in Whalley at my mate's bike shop. They were busy removing cars - despite plenty of signs saying "no parking from 8am" Then onto a short climb between Whalley and Read - a little stinger with lots of potholes This is the Stage 2 winner Petr Vakoc just at the beginning of his one-man break with 18km to the finish line. EDIT: Sent to me by one of my riding compatriots today - Andy - I'm stood on the bottom side of the road (on the right) and Andy is in front of me. A screengrab from Europsort from the heli at the same time as Vakoc is passing. Managed about 40 miles or so on the road bike and typical of the Ribble Valley area - not much flat stuff. The undercarriage is tender as I haven't managed many road miles at all this year. Relaxing with a nightcap before resuming work for the next 4 weeks or so without too much of a break (apart from two days taking NB junior to Uni)- I have 10 driving tests with their associated extra lessons that they always want to make sure all is well. Popular Post andyram
Evening all. First of all best wishes to Is for her continuing treatment. I hope that the end result is a positive one. Also best wishes to Shedman who is obviously dealing with some difficult issues too right now. Hopefully we will hear from Jock soon and that there may be some positive news too. Here in Derby it has been a typical return to school day with fine weather which became warm. This morning was mainly taken up with meetings and the afternoon spent on preparation. I do see some speed bumps ahead with some of the staffing issues from last year not yet resolved. This new academic year this issue will definitely fall my way to sort out. Things slightly better with the cat. She has at least started eating again. In fact her medication is going down well when dissolved in cat milk. She has also demolished a couple of sausages, some chicken nuggets and a bowl of cat food. She is definitely being spoilt at present - but if it makes her eat... . Still no sign of the sneezing going although there has been much less nasty stuff coming out. I even heard a purr again this evening. A better day.
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted September 7, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2015 My furry friend was more furry fiend this afternoon. He had to have his booster jabs. I don't know why but the new vet (new to the practice) wouldn't listen. I said Robbie was fine having injections so could she do that first before trying any other investigations. She ignored me and approached him from behind to feel his abdomen or whatever and he growled. She then insisted on a muzzle which he associates with nose spray for kennel cough. It wasn't going to happen. Anyway he let her bandage his mouth shut and didn't make any fuss when injected. I then had to listen to a lecture about dangerous dogs and he might bite a child. I did say very few children go round trying to muzzle him and stick things into him. The nurse told the vet has was a lovely dog and it was only the muzzle that stressed him.
