Morning all from a dull and damp village.  Somewhat late on parade today due to SWMBO demanding that various items of furniture be found  tidied up and cleared.  However her new (to us) computer has been set up and tested so that will have to be installed in due course.  Then comes the hard part of transferring files.   Does anyone know how to get all the archived emails out of Microsoft outlook and transfer them to a new Windows 7 machine.

Anyway off to Cleckheaton this afternoon to set up the Bring and Buy stall for the Gauge O Guild event tomorrow.  Then an evening modelling at the clubrooms.  Not a bad set of things to look forward to.

Good news for you Jock.

As to Asian modellers, they appear to be very few and far between though we did have an Indian couple round our show a couple of years ago who talked about club membership.

Morning all,

Well done Jock - getting to fight the good fight again, and keeping on top of the opposition. I must admit to being slightly confused by Dom's news - clearly something to do with trams (could be nice) but I did wonder (hope?) it might be a commission to phot the entire fleet instead of something slightly more involved.

Thanks GDB for carefully and exactly explaining our weather although it is currently only lightly persisting down. Ah, Dartmoor - the last time I drove across it the mist was so thick I could hardly see the road in front of the car but I understand it does get better sometimes. In my view the Eden Project is well worth the money - but you need to keep the printing press going for quite a while before you leave home. And not exactly out of the way really as you can then head east up the A390/A38, cut across from Liskeard to Callington then north on the A388 to Launceston and visit the steam railway before heading east on the A30 or just stay on the A38 on across the Tamar and divert up to the moor further east in Devon.

Whichever you do have a good day. (oh and Lelant Saltings is the park & ride station for St Ives, huge car park).

Have a good day one & all.

Mike,

Dom is about to become a tram driver, getting away from the nasty job that seems to have been making him ill, and in to doing something he loves! Congratulations definitely in order!

Back later to post, hopefully. Meanwhile,

Kind regards,

Jock.

Way back in 2008, the East Riding Finescale Group built a layout for an Indian gentleman to have in his office in India. We called it the "Layout in six weeks". Transport was arranged by him and the layout was last seen in it's transport book on the back of an artic.

We did get conformation that it had arrived but nothing since so we presumed all was well.

Probably something to do with plain topped sweaters!

Sod's?

It's the new one.  Kevin Pietersen shall be England captain sine die, shall appoint the manager, scorer, both umpires and the TMS commentators.  Easy one!

Bill

Is Law 43 like Rule 34?

Rain shall stop play in order that Baz can get on with some weathering.

Simples!

Morning all from Estuary-Land. MCC Law 43 just has to be Murphy's law, if something can go wrong it will, evidenced by the fact that it has been omitted from the rules of cricket leaving only 42 rules.

Yes, but if I told you, I'd have to give you an extra.

Well there are as mentioned above 42 Laws in the MCC Law Book.

Law 43 is not written down but is.." the umpires shall apply common sense when its not covered by the 42 Laws"  - not in common use and no longer part of umpire training alas...

Ground being dried out at Headingley with help from some of the St Chads Broomfield CC players - brightening up here and suspect the game will commence about 1pm.

The New Forest has toe rags who target cars with empty bike racks. As many ATB users change into cycling kit there's a good chance that their wallet and other stuff will be in the car while they're miles away

....

Pete

That's why I always remove the bike rack and hide it away inside the car.

For anyone who is in this neck of the woods and enjoys a real ale or six and likes good wholesome food I can thoroughly recommend this establishment http://www.tomcobleytavern.co.uk/home

Roger and Carol are a friendly Devon couple who run a clean and tidy pub which is relatively unspoilt. You might want to purchase a pair of elasticated waistband trousers or be prepared to go down a few notches on your belt after eating and drinking here.

It's a little bit off the beaten track, not too far off the A30, but if anyone is in the area either on hols or otherwise I for one can recommend it. No juke box etc here, just a friendly local Devon pub :)

( no connection other than the usual satisfied customer but if you mention my name I'd be very interested to hear the reply ! LOL)

Grahame

Spelling correction !

There was a superb thread on here describing the build. Don't know if it's still accessible.

Just checked. It's in the archive. Search for "how to build a train set in six weeks"

At the moment 11.55 the rain in sunny Teignmouth is humungously torrential. Picnics and beach walks are off.

Similarly the rain in formerly a bit sunny Ipplepen is humongous. However it started when I was walking the dogs. Got back to the caravan and SWMBO took a towel to the dogs first. I just stood there and dripped.

Attn: Jock

Chris's bikes - the H1 500.  Perfect, even to the point of having the pre-safety recall HT leads that go over the carbs.

Z900

I’ll take one of each of the Z2 and Z900 - they are still handsome beasts.

I don’t think my butt would fit on the either of the TZs.....

Best, Pete.

However the forecast is for bright sunny later. We're deciding where we can go. Brixham, Paignton, Cockington, Compton looks good. Or maybe Totnes.

Just heard from Steve who is now on the TGV to Cannes and has just told me that his boss has paid for 1st class travel and 5 star hotel!

Très envieux? Moi? Jamais!

When I used to stay there (for MIDEM) I think 5 star hotels were  the lowest rating on the croisette because hotels like the Carlton and Majestic are 5 star deluxe +................. It’s just that kind of place! Tell him to avoid the casino.....

Best, Pete.

If you visit Totnes, try Woods bisto at the top of the hill on the left. No connection but superb food and an outside terrace if its nice.

Afternoon all. I hope that your Friday is going well. The weather has been pretty wet and miserable in Derby this morning. I hope it is better for those on their holidays at present. I have enjoyed looking through Ian's pictures from the south coast this morning. Cornwall is not an area I have ever visited, but it is on the list of places to go. I remember holidays on the Isle of Wight and also at Dartmouth when I was a youngster, but Weymouth and Swanage are the only southerly locations I have visited as an adult, and even those were over a decade ago. Sarah and I are heading down there this summer though, staying in Dorchester. I am sure the Swanage Railway will be on the itinerary at some point.

That is a great layout Judge Dread, I will definitely check out the link.

Back here and I am recovering this morning. Last night's tense feelings led to a difficult night's sleep with more than one vivid dream and a feeling of sickness. I have to admit I felt a little worried last night. All those symptoms reminded me greatly of one of the panic attacks that I have suffered with over the last 13 years. They started after a particularly bad NHS experience which left me with a medical anxiety and a form of claustrophobia. Over the years I have been able to manage this without medication, by recognising actual or potential triggers and making sensible choices. It has been a long time since I have had one, and usually I can sense a situation may cause an attack and remove myself from the situation. What concerned me was there was no obvious trigger last night.

I do feel a bit delicate today. I didn't quite need an early start to take the car in for its M-O-T and getting soaked whilst walking from the garage to the bus stop. Nor did I need a second soaking by a monsoon like shower whilst Amber and I were walking back from supermarket.

Oh well you have to laugh! The sun is now out so maybe I will get out and do some planting later.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

If in Cockington, then "The Drum" is worth a visit. Our welding reception is booked there for October.

A welding reception? Sounds like there will sparks!

Afternoon all from a still rather damp village.  Yesterday as part of the light fitting changing exercise I needed to visit a far corner of the loft to get at the downlighter from above. In the process I discovered this photo that seemed to sport similar hairstyles to the wedding group that Pete (Trisonic's) posted a couple of days ago.

This was spring 1973 just before my student career came to an end and I decided to look for paid employment  and ended up in the police.   The occasion was a demo outside Huddersfield Poly to try and get a footbridge due to safety concerns as we all had to cross the busy ring road to get into town. I'm the one in the middle with the slightly shiny jacket.  This was on the front page of the Huddersfield Examiner.  Shortly after it was taken the police arrived in force.  Probably a good thing that I didn't get myself locked up at the time.

As a matter of record a footbridge was finally provided many years later after someone was killed at the same spot.

It is raining here. All the tasks for today involve being outside. I suppose I could empty the winter hanging basket while sheltering under the open garage door. I may feel more enthusiastic after taking Robbie out as I will be soggy from the rain then anyway.

Cleared up now.

Thanks for the suggestions. However we're mainly self catering or limited to where we can take the dogs. Booked another meal at the site restaurant tomorrow night as it'll rain tomorrow mid-afternoon onwards making cooking outside more of a challenge. Yes, I know we have adult cooking facilities in the van but the barbecue gets much hotter and cooks better.

Decision is Totnes this afternoon - tide we think is high - and a stroll up Hippie Street. Last time we went up there the smells got more intense as you climbed. Maybe the castle - can take dogs in and surprisingly I've never been. Then she's suggested Berry Head or similar.

Afternoon All,

Nice to see the return of Donk, and also the old Kawasaki's.  My Father used to ride (and still has) a late 70s Z400.

On the subject of car break ins on Dartmoor.  This (unfortunately) seems to be a spreading problem.  I remember it was a significant problem a few years ago in the Peak District (and probably still is).  Cavers would leave their cars, and return to find them broken into.  Obviously, it is easy to assume that when someone leaves their car with caving gear, then it is going to be a while before they return.

I am surprised at Haytor car park though - I would have thought that there was enough activity with hordes of people coming and going to discourage thieves.  It just goes to prove that anyone can be a victim at any time.

Scroats!
